    Not a bad pizza
    Gillian C.

This place is always bunged to the gills, being BYOB may have a lot to do with that! Certainly a cheap night out, 5 of us went for a meal, had 3 courses and paid £16 each including a slightly over 10% tip. The garlic pate mushrooms are delicious, pizzas are well cooked although not the most refined of flavours. Desserts were generous. Seems to be popular for birthdays as every time I have been in here the lights have been dimmed several times during the evening and a round of out of tune happy birthday being sung. Not bad for a cheap night out but you do need to boom in advance and double check your bill as there is often a few extras that weren't ordered added to the bill

Their garlic fries are to die for, and they have easily the best pepperoni in Belfast, unmatched anywhere else!

We also got onion rings, garlic sauté potatoes and cheesy garlic bread (we may look normal weight but secretly fat inside lol).

Il Gusto Ristorante - Mussel starter

So impressed!…read more There's a new addition on the Lisburn Road and it is definitely a welcome one. Il Gusto is a modern Italian that packs a punch. We went for dinner here last week and it couldn't have been better. First up, the decor is modern, confutable and stylist - a delicate balance that's hard to create. It's a relatively small restaurant seating maximum forty people. This small set up creates an intimate dining experience, perfect for couples. The menu is great - there's all the Italian favourites with some additional dishes such as mussels. For starter I went for Caesar salad which came fantastically presented. It was loaded with thinly but bacon and tender chicken. The portion was just enough without being overly filling. A great set up for main. I went for pizza for main and my girlfriend went for tagliatelle so we could mix and match. The pizza was incredible spicy, but that's exactly what I was after. The tagliatelle was great, loaded with chicken and spicy peppers also giving it a real authentic flavour. Although we were full we couldn't resist having dessert. Once again we mixed and matched. I ordered chocolate fudge cake and my girlfriend went for cheesecake. Both delicious. The coconut ice cream was incredible - a must try! I can't recommend Il Gusto enough. You won't be disappointed.

We also ordered the tegatelli pasta with chicken, mushroom and chilli - it was the perfect level of spice - i could have licked the plate clean. The restaurant itself is beautifully laid out, cosy and intimate. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't try any of the cocktails on this occasion but I plan to on my next visit. This place gets a full five stars from me - I'm already planning my next visit.

Lunch is served from 12pm - 3pm and includes a Pasta Bar with your choice of pasta and sauce for £5. I opted for the Rigatoni Arrabbiata adding brocolli and mushroom, these two additions added £3 to the bill which seemed a bit overpriced so probably best to stick with the straight pasta and sauce. The dish was very well presented and fresh parmesan was offered which completed the dish. Overall was quite tasty though the pasta was mildly overcooked. But the food arrived promptly and service was friendly. The americano I ordered afterwards was also quite nice. They do not offer filter coffee. In summation a very pleasant and reasonably priced Italian cafe/bar. They also do cheap takeaway of the pasta of the day.

The menu isn't extensive but all pasta dishes are freshly prepared and full of flavour. I'm a woman who likes her food and portion sizes are ample. At lunch you can order whatever type of pasta and sauce and it's cooked fresh for you. Absolutely delicious! and price wise £5 for a plate of fresh pasta is good. The lasagne is one of my favourites and there are always daily specials on the board. The house wine is sourced by the owner and comes in bottles with a quirky cartoon pic of Mr Deane himself. Nice touch! I have eaten both lunch and dinner here. The service is good and efficient without being intrusive. Parking during the day can be a bit difficult but not impossible and in the evenings it's usually easy to get parked on Lisburn Road. Definitely worth the trek well not so much a trek really if I'm honest and I do prefer it to city centre. If you want a quiet drink after dinner there's loads of great bars within easy reach but that's a whole other review so watch this space!

My main of wild mushroom risotto was the richest, most flavoursome I've eaten in a long time. A light, floral, Italian Pinot Grigio (La Plume) complimented the food perfectly. Restaurant decor is white and bright but still feels gentle on the eye making for a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely a continental vibe which is delightful on a grey, autumnal Belfast day. I would almost have given Amici 5 stars but a few things really, really let this restaurant down. I was dining with a party of 6 and arrived first. Whilst seated at our table waiting for the others to arrive the waitress didn't bother asking me if I would like a drink. She didn't ask if I wanted to order a drink until another person in my party arrived. This was exceptionally poor service. I couldn't even get her attention to order something as she initially showed me to a table then promptly disappeared out of sight. We specifically went to Amici to try their Pre-Theatre menu of 2 courses for £12.95 which is clearly advertised on their website. However when we asked to see this menu Amici told us their website was out of date and the Pre-Theatre now £15.00. This is false advertising and very bad practice. Amici should have honoured their £12.95 menu when we highlighted we'd seen it advertised. Again, poor customer service, as well as shoddy marketing. They need to get their website updated urgently. At the end of our meal when we asked for our bill we also enquired if we could use our Perks Cards. Amici's website states "We are now accepting the perks card. Card holders will receive 10% off their bill and a homemade limoncello (not to be used in conjunction with any other offer)." Though as their website is not maintained we were unsure if this was even correct. We thought we'd ask anyway. Our waitress, a different Lady from the one who served us initially, seemed very uncertain. She did point out that the Perks Discount was a per person discount and one card could not be used for discount off the total bill. We advised her this was fine as each of us had a Perks Card anyway. So off she went to check if we could avail of the Perks Card offer. We waited quite a while for her to return. Eventually she returned with our bill, on which we had been granted a 10% food discount. The discount whilst off food was not off drinks, which is fine but again this is not clear on their website. Plus we didn't get a homemade limoncello as their offer states, but hey, it's hard to know with a place like this where you stand! I was initially thinking of giving Amici a 4 star rating. It's a shame, as my food was definitely 5 star food. Sadly, the poor customer service, false website advertising and mild disdain from the waitresses when we enquired about special offers have dragged the overall rating down. I think for me Amici is definitely a 3 star restaurant.

You may miss it if you blink when passing but is directly across the road from Ryan's bar. So Amici is an Italian restaurant with a nice simple clean décor. There are some lovely 4 seater booths and a few other tables and chairs. Its a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy a meal and some wine. Like any Italian there is a whole host of things to order off the menu including a wide selection of pasta and pizza. I can't attest to the wine quality as I was having a sober evening but I have it on good authority that it was good. For starter I got the Zucchini Crisps. They were delicious batons of courgettes in a thick batter and fried till crisp. Very well seasoned and quite light despite the batter. They came with a delicious Balsamic dipping sauce. I'd highly recommend the started to anyone as it wasn't heavy and made a perfect kick off without filling you up before the main. For my main I ordered the Aubergine, Sun dried tomato and spinach pizza. The pizza itself was great, a slightly thicker base than some places. My only downside was that it was very slightly overdone. It was slightly burned on the bottom. Other than that it was very fresh and very tasty. The other mains my party had all came out well presented and there wasn't a bad word said about the food. This is a great wee gem on the Lisburn Road and because it doesn't seem rally well known yet its a great place for the adventurers out there to go explore and discover. I would have given 5 stars but the website was incorrect promising a pre-theatre menu at 2 course for £12.95. On arrival we were told this and it was 2 courses for £15.00. They did however let us use our Perks card so there was a bit of balance there, however I definitely think if you are changing an offer the first place to update should be your website!

It occupies the prime spot out of all the restaurants in Vic Square, the iconic glass corner tower ( ex Chiquito). Tony Macaroni is a large Scottish (Glasgow) chain of "Real Italian Food" run by Sep Marini. This is the second one in Northern Ireland (after Bangor). I brought my daughter as my plus one, a welcome distraction from AQE preparations!! She was so thrilled and excited as it was a surprise for her. The interior has all been totally refurbished with the main features being the bar and the open kitchen. On arrival we were very warmly met and seated by the Manageress. There was Prosecco on arrival but I opted for the sparkling water and Fanta for my daughter. The menu was very extensive, with lots of mouth watering, Italian named dishes and my daughter immediately spotted the calamari whilst I opted for the Gamberoni (prawns). After a few minutes our dishes arrived and looked incredible. They were big portions!! The squid was juicy and perfectly cooked and the garlic mayo and sweet chilli sauce accompanied them well, whilst the prawns were subtly flavoured with lemon, garlic and white wine and served with sticky rice. It didn't take us long to finish!! Spaghetti carbonara is a firm favourite for my two daughters and for me I love calzone, so I ordered the Americana and my daughter insisted on chips (I tried to dissuade her as I suspected the portions would be large). When the dishes arrived I was certainly right about the big portion sizes!! The carbonara was excellent (my daughters honest opinion!!) and I must say did taste excellent!! The chips were big fat fellows. My calzone was a bit plump round the edges but bursting with filling- the sausage, bacon and ham bursting out along with the tomato, cheese and onion and was tremendous! Alas bellies beat our eyes and we had to stop and leave room for desert!! We asked for the rest to be packed (so no 2 daughter wouldn't feel left out!!). For sweets my daughter chose the white chocolate sundae whilst I was recommended the toffee tablet cheesecake. When they arrived my daughters eyes lit up!! She immediately went to work, like a busy beaver, deconstructing it, peeling back the layers of cone, mint, cream, raspberries, vanilla and strawberry ice cream until the treasure of white chocolate was unearthed at the bottom. Meanwhile my toffee tablet cheesecake, topped with raspberries and blackberries and served with a pot of cream was equally indulgent. "Tablet" I hear you say, it's not medicinal but is what our Scots friends call butterscotch fudge. There were nice chunks on and in the creamy toffee cheesecake. The biscuit base was quite thin and the addition of the pot of cream was maybe too much!! This was all washed down with a cappuccino and hot chocolate. Well we could hardly move after all that!! The food was excellent and service was slick. We were given a nice gift bag containing a glass and bottle of Prosecco (for the wife of course!!) as well as the remains of the spaghetti and pizza (for no 2 daughter). I shall definitely be back with the rest of the family as there are a few dishes I want to try and I love the Presto menu for £5.95 (£6.95 on Sunday) and the breakfasts and the "Go Jimmy style" of having pizza/pasta half/half, a great way to share.
