Beautiful, BYOB, cottage restaurant filled with quirky, mismatched furniture. Spent a lovely evening here having dinner with family on Monday 10/06/2019. Menu is small consisting of pizza, salads and sides. Food was lovely and I would return, however there are a few reasons I think Ambledown deserving of 4 instead of 5 stars, and they are:
1. Only one waiter dealing with all food and drink orders. We weren't in a rush so didn't mind too much, but we had quite a wait before being shown to our table, receiving menus/ drinks, placing our order and receiving food. This restaurant might be small but it still needs more than one waiter to serve all customers properly.
2. No specific vegan options on menu. I was able to order a 'vegan' pizza which was just a vegetarian pizza with no cheese. It was good, but could have been great - if only vegan cheese had been available. Ambledown need a proper vegan pizza listed on their menu. Likewise a specific vegan starter and maybe vegan aioli or vegan mayonnaise dip would be prudent.
3. Such a pretty restaurant except for all the hunting themed pictures/ trinkets on display - very few people support hunting any longer, therefore these items are just tacky and ugly. Get rid of them Ambledown! read more
