We were only about 7 miles out from our hotel, but we were worried we might be looking at a transmission replacement as it seemed like the transmission went "limp" and wouldn't change gears while driving! The team at Budget Radiator and Automotive got us in quickly, took the time to thoroughly diagnose the problem, and didn't jump to conclusions or try to sell us unnecessary repairs. They found that the alternator had failed, but they didn't stop there. During the repair they discovered the serpentine belt and tensioner were also failing because the belt kept slipping off. They explained everything clearly, showed us what was happening, and made sure the repair was done correctly. After replacing the alternator, serpentine belt, and tensioner, they checked the transmission fluid at my request, (which looked great), then test drove the van for about 20 miles to make sure everything was working properly before calling us. That's the kind of attention to detail and professionalism every customer hopes for. The van now runs beautifully, all of the warning lights are gone, and we have complete confidence driving it home. When you're traveling and your vehicle breaks down hundreds of miles from home, you're putting a lot of trust in a repair shop you've never met. I chose J & S Automotive because they had several dozen reviews from people needing immediate help and they weren't turned away or let down. I brought my newly bought car to them and it ended up being beyond what I wanted to spend on a car I just bought. They worked around my budget and we parted ways feeling they did a good job. On the way home there were new problems: its hard to say if it was anyone's "fault" when dealing with a used car; once you start fixing one thing, other problems are either discovered, or bolts, hoses, etc, can come loose. When we got the car home we noticed a new leak, the brake light wouldn't turn off and the Windshield washing motor wasn't working. I called and didn't expect anything but new charges. Instead, Jeff offered to have the car TOW back up there at his expense, look at the new issues, and fix them without charge. I knew he wanted to see the issues first, but they didn't place any blame or tell me it's going to cost "xyz", they went directly to work on the car, ordered new parts, and offered to DELIVER the car back to me without further charge. On Monday morning they got the final part, and as he said, he called to make sure I was available, and personally delivered the car within 15 minutes. When I called this place and asked some basic questions, they were friendly and professional, and most importantly, got a mechanic on the line to listen to my symptoms. He gave me five possible reasons that those symptoms could be happening, and listed them in order from the cheapest repair to the most expensive. I was able to quickly get my car in to be seen, and they had the repair diagnosed and fixed by the next day. Best part? It wasn't even as expensive as they had originally quoted me as the labor hadn't taken as long. I know it is easy for mechanics to jack up the labor costs, but my itemized bill was very reasonable. Had advised that worrying about the cosmetic damage but had unrelated stuff on truck I was going to use money on. 1. Was the gas gauge not working properly likely due to float on fuel pump it seemed. They said they had mechanic in back that could do it. So made appt. They called day later and said done. Picked up and the gas gauge now pegged on full. I asked why they didn't make sure it was working properly before putting bed back on and advising me it wa good to go.They denied any wrong doing and that they had done what was asked and "put it in"....the emphasis that having to make sure it was working was not their responsibility. After a bit of urging they stated they (Kyle) would ask their tech the next morning. I left the truck. Next day they called and denied that it was not their problem. I stated obviously was and they needed to correct. They stated only if pay again to have the bed taken off and pay for diagnosis...they emphasized it would be a very expensive diagnosis. I immediately drove over. Asked for manager and and advised him I needed a full refund. He laughed and stated not happening. I then asked for the corporate number. He said he would not give it, I could look it up (I had already tried finding online). I stated again I either refund or give me the number. He again stated again no and I did not leave he would call the police. I said give me the phone number and no problem. He turned and went to the phone and called the police. The guy came walking back from the outside about same time with the old pump so I stepped outside and he politely advised it still smelled of gas and he could put in back of truck for me. I didn't believe I should then leave the scene so I waited outside for police to arrive. That all just was determined a civil matter I moved the truck off the property next door that gave me permission to leave until I could bring back another driver. Next day I went to fill up the truck and gas came rolling off the top of the gas tank from area of the pump. HORRIBLE!!!!!
