This throwback American style corner cafe is located in Topeka's up and coming NOTO Arts District. The banana creme pie's flavor painted a portrait of the Chiquita banana beauty dancing a merengue with the baker - it was alive and voluptuous! Even the meringue had a hint of sweet and I was pleased. The dining room was charming and my table rocked from side to side as I put the final touches on the real estate contract I was soon to email. There was only one open table out of the 15 or so in the place, or else I might have swapped for a more sturdy foundation. I saw two people I knew and two elderly ladies chatted me up about my pie and my Jayhawk Tshirt. We agreed whether they or the Shockers won this afternoon we would feel both happiness and sadness. I was even tapped on the shoulder by a little boy with a spiel inviting me to his church and handing me a card for the play he appears in nightly. All in all, it was quite my type of down home "whole" in the wall restaurant experience. I will definitely return to try one of the other 20 sum-odd types of pie, or possibly breakfast. It was 12:15 when I arrived and they offered me breakfast OR lunch. Check it out. Spend some money. Maybe they'll upgrade their wobbly table. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this restaurant. We didn't even make it to the food part of the experience. Starting with the chaotic wait staff, it was already not setting itself up for anything good. We were fine with the longer wait time, but once the server started to take the orders of people who were sat after us, we walked out. Maybe you'll get to try the food and it's worth the trashy service, but we can't speak to that. read more

When me and my daughter went in we got stared at and also the young waitress had a bad attitude and slammed our plates down. I bought the chicken fried chicken with the gravy scrambled eggs and hashbrowns with a side of bacon and the eggs did not taste good at all they taste very cheap and the chicken fried chicken was not very good and the gravy was probably the worst that I've ever had. And I know there was something wrong with the gravy because my daughter didn't eat it as well she got biscuits and gravy. My wife and I just came away from Bradley's after having a terrible experience. My wife ordered the corn beef hash and eggs scrambled soft and rye toast. When it arrived, the toast was hard, burnt and had obviously been sitting as it was only somewhat warm, the eggs were brown and rubbery, way over cooked. The waitress acknowledged the egg problem and took back the plate to redo the breakfast. When the meal was redelivered, the eggs were properly cooked, but the corn beef hash was almost totally potatoes (truly no corned beef could be seen), it was a very small portion, and was totally unacceptable. By the time the food was redelivered, I was done eating. My wife ate about half the eggs, picked at the hash browns and left the redelivered toast that wasn't delivered until we were ready to leave. The attitude of the server was totally inattentive, acted annoyed that we were even there, and when we complained as we were leaving, she took $1 off the bill, but it felt more like an insult than a remedy. This will sound like a complete jerk thing to say, but I was really tempted to give this place a one star. Not that it's bad, but rather it is that GOOD. This is nothing special, I admit. But they are a good throw back to a small town corner cafe in a city that grew up around them. I enjoy going in here, and feeling simpler in life. This is the kind of place you go to relax and pretend the world is simple, life isn't as chaotic as it is and let the world slip by for a while. Only trouble is, it's busy. Nothing really magical going on here. First the good. The cinnamon rolls were REALLY sweet and overall pretty good. Coffee was decent and they were cool about giving us a to-go cup. The people, both the wait staff and other patrons, were as sweet as the cinnamon rolls. Super fun to talk to everyone. The folks were also super friendly. That only increased when they learned we were just passing through. Wasn't so stoked on my breakfast. Ordered a pancake sandwich. I was hoping to see some sort of funky presentation in the form of... ohhh I dunno, a sandwich. But alas it was just a breakfast plate. That's cool though. I did not really mind, but I thought the eggs (ordered scrambled) were rather rubbery. Had to dunk them in hot sauce to get through it. The bacon/pancakes, while not bad, weren't special. My wife got some sort of breakfast hash thing. Same issue with the eggs. Totally rubbery. Had to pick out the sausage, which itself had good flavor. The price was normal for breakfast fare so no added points for value. If they fixed the eggs thing I'd bump it to a 3 star rating. Located in an old bank building in downtown NOTO, Bradley's specializes in breakfast, lunch and dinner. All home cooked comfort food. They are especially known for their breakfast and pies. The mornings are very busy. Sometimes there are folks standing waiting for a table. That's how popular it is. The breakfast menu consists of staples such as omelettes, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, breakfast scramblers (bowls), etc... I like the biscuits and gravy with an egg on top or one of their omelettes. They have an expansive menu of pies that you can have for dessert. They also make pies that you can order as long as you place your order 24 hours in advance. Lots of fruit and cream pies. The lunch and dinner menu is very good as well. Also, comfort food. They have daily specials and their menu includes: hamburgers, chicken fried steak/chicken, roast beef, meat loaf. But, this is where I have to say, I have had some of the best ribs here that you can get anywhere in town. Brad smokes them on the smoker out back and they just fall off of the bone. They have the best chicken fried steak in town and the portions are huge - the value is terrific! Also, the service is wonderful. They are very busy but the servers never forget you are there but they also don't bug you too often - But it really is all about the food - I've had breakfast there as well and it is just as good.
