One year later, we worked with them again to reinvent our backyard where we had limited space that was all hardscape. They completely transformed it with turf, pavers, beautiful greenery, an outdoor deck, and stairs. Top-notch quality and customer experience. They take care of everything and are actively thinking on your behalf about how to go above and beyond. It's clear they are in it for the long term and have an incredible team that works with excellent subcontractors. I could not recommend them more highly.

A designer visited the property to gauge the approximate design budget. I was feeling good about the project and ready to kick off the design process. Then just before signing the design agreement, I got a surprise call from the owner. He told me that the design and construction costs would be significantly higher than what I had discussed with the sales manager. Bizarrely, he made no attempt whatsoever to explain what value Better Builders would provide for the higher cost. He sounded very impatient and had a "take it or leave it" attitude. The whole conversation was very confusing and off-putting, completely out of step with the sales manager's collaborative communication style. I realized I was not comfortable working with a firm that would apply such high-pressure sales tactics. I declined. In retrospect, I'm glad I spoke with the owner before signing and not the sales manager, because I feel like I've dodged a bullet!

Urban Build reconstructed our living room and front porch this past late summer/early fall. Our…read more1908 house had gone through some unfortunate late mid-century re-modeling stripping its original character and cluttering it with junky finishing and inefficient design. Mike Dolge, Jason, and James helped us re-build the front half of the house to be a more open, larger feeling living area with clever and charming built-ins that add needed storage space while preserving flexibility. They were able to blend building back in some Craftsman detail with a more modern, lighter sensibility that makes it feel like we added SF. Of the many compliments that we've received, my favorite is "it looks like this is the way it was always supposed to be," even though it looks and feels very different. We are so pleased with how it came out. Mike is creative, an excellent listener and had many good suggestions as to how to improve the space in the way that we wanted in a cost-effective manner. Both Jason and James, who did the majority of the work, are highly skilled carpenters who care about quality. We're kinda particular (my husband is a designer), so they had to do alot of checking in with us and problem-solving to get what we wanted. The whole crew are nice guys who were kind to my children and careful with clean-up. Mike also hires excellent subs who built a beautiful re-purposed madrona floor and tiled fireplace that Jason finished with the most gorgeous mantle of madrona. Highly recommend.

I was very impressed with this company. Nate came out to give us a quote to fix a back board and…read moreput in new tile. We had done the demo and started doing the backer boarders ourselves. Nate gave helpful tips on how to prep the area since we were interested in saving some money. Other contractors had given me a hard time and talked down to me when i they saw the bathroom. Not Nate he was respectful and really saw no problems in having J and M finishing the job. It was the busy time of year so they said they couldn't fit in me in for a few months. But then in a week later he contacted me since they had someone cancel. So they could fit me in! They sent their tile guy named Bob to do the job. I loved Bob. He was on time, kept the work space tidy and was just a nice guy to have around. Talk about attention to detail. Because i live in a small apartment with no place to cut tile, he had to cut off site. He did a beautiful flawless job. I highly recommend this company. From start to finish i was very happy.

Prior to contacting them, I had called a few contractors that either way overpriced or had a hard time communicating. Andrew was very pleasant to talk to and we were able to negotiate a price I felt was reasonable. The proposal was detailed and I understand what the scope of the work will be. Cole is a true professional and was a pleasure to work with. He makes getting in touch really easy…read moreby accepting inquiries via text that he responded to almost instantly. I needed to get a front door repaired because it was leaking water and he even did some preliminary research by looking at Google Earth photos of my house to get a sense of the situation before stopping by that same day. Cole was very thorough and patient with his explanations of the issues and how he intended to fix them. I received an estimate a couple of days later and we were able to flexibly schedule the work two weeks later. In the meantime, he gladly fielded any random questions I had about the materials and scope of work. Once Cole came to complete the work he was very considerate about keeping my home clean and tidy. He brought a drop cloth and zipwall kit to make sure dust, cold, and moisture didn't get into my home. The quality of his work is great, and his prices are fair. I'd recommend Cole and Agile Remodeling Handyman to anyone who needs handyman services. Thanks for fixing my door, Cole!

Nathan is by far the best general contractor I've worked with. This is my 4th major house remodel…read more I'm convinced Nathan's quality and meticulous attention to detail shows as the project gets bigger. Almost anybody can set a toilet, but I've seen Nathan do so many detailed finishes and find creative solutions to our demanding design that I'm not sure he has limitations. I like that, unlike most of the contractors we met with, I could shop around for my own finishes without his mark up. When needed, Nathan would use his contractor discount for us to purchase at cost. Nathan is also super easy to work with. Like any project, adding items after the scope of work is agreed on can significantly increase the price. After all, they are already in your house, they (the typical general contractor) know you aren't going to want to shop for a better price and it's going to make sure it's worth their inconvenience if they have to squeeze you into their already tight schedule. We are so lucky to have Nathan working with us. He did so many extra random jobs that required his skill but without the inflated cost. At this point, there's nothing I wouldn't trust Nathan to do, and for a reasonable price, as long as he told me he could do it. I'd pick him again without question and recommend him to friends.

Nathan Alwin and his team were fantastic! First impression was that he hit the basics of…read morereliability: he answered my initial call, scheduled a time, arrived on time, and sent a bid the same day. We have a 1925 house and asked Nathan to replace all of the carpet and linoleum on the main floor with 18 inch porcelain tile. This included a sunroom, living room, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. His bid was $2000 less than the other bids and he accepts credit cards. These were both deal breakers that, otherwise, would have prevented us from doing the project ... AND it included new, painted baseboards which the other bids did now. Additionally, other bids asked that we move all our appliances out of the kitchen and the move the toilet. We only have one bathroom. Nathan kept both our kitchen and bathroom fully functional throughout the whole process. It was always fun to see where the fridge would be when we got home from work each day! Nathan ran into a few snags. He had to raise the front door (you can do that?!), level out the sun room with cement, and work with very "wavy" tile. These set backs meant that rather than the estimated 5 business days, the project stretched to 8. He didn't charge us anything additional! He was more concerned with giving us a perfect floor than getting the job done quickly. Overall, we were 100% satisfied with Nathan's work and will call him for all future home needs!! THANK YOU for making this project possible!
