I have a Seth Thomas mantle clock about 110 years old and a treasured family heirloom. It needed a mainspring replacement. Mike said it might be 2 months before he could get to it. After receiving the clock he mentioned it would be closer to two weeks. I've noticed horologists (clock repair experts) often have a different sense of time, which amuses me. The clock was returned after 3 weeks and soon I found it ran only a few hours or more often ran less than an hour. For 3 days (there was a weekend here) I did what I could with what knowledge I had of the clock. I left a message for Mike and he returned the call a couple days later. He explained the problem was not what I thought it might be and asked that I send the clock back for some tweaking. We talked a bit more and over the phone he listened to the clock's ticking. And over the phone he then guided me to gently adjust a wire that connected to the pendulum. It was an amazing phone call that illustrated his expertise. We took our clock to this guy and he "repaired" it; unfortunately we paid him upon delivery. We quickly discovered the clock hadn't been repaired and contacted the Owner. The owner quoted an additional $3000 on top of the $1500 we already paid him. Terrible person to do business with and no accountability for his work. read more
