The Last Wind-up has a wonderful selection of clocks and watches. Their prices are competitive. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Years ago I had my antique cuckoo clock "repaired" there and they replaced previous old parts with new... not to my liking. Hopefully there is a new "repair" person there by now. When the watch I received as a Christmas present from my wife needed a minor repair, I wanted to have it fixed at a factory-authorized service center, and it turns out that the Last Wind-Up is one of only three authorized service shops in the U.S.A. for Archimede watches, and the closest one to California. So I wrapped my watch up in a lot of bubble-wrap and sent it to Montana. The repair turned out to be very simple, and the owner, Dave, was more than fair on the cost of the repair. As an added bonus, he was able to adjust the movement so that instead of running a little fast (as it had since I first got it) the watch now keeps perfect time. Bottom line - Dave from Last Wind-Up literally returned my watch to me in better condition than it was when my wife bought it for me brand new from the factory. My husband and I visited The Last Wind-Up in search of a waterproof/ resistant watch. The selection at this store is sufficient for most people's needs. However, the woman working there (thick rim glasses and blonde curly hair) doesn't want to be selling watches other than the extremely high end brands. She asked how much I wanted to spend on a watch and I replied around $200. She laughed and told me I would be limited to one case. I found this attitude very off putting and it made me feel like my business wasn't wanted. I would have bought a watch if she hadn't done that. There are plenty of other stores who don't treat their customers like this. Also, I saw watches around this price range in other cases. I would recommend this store to people who are prepared to either spend big on a watch or people who don't mind being treated like they're second class because of how much they spend. read more

Have to put up an unfortunate update. The last five or six times I have been into the shop or communicated with them it's been pretty bad. I was attempting to purchase either an Oris or an Alpina from them and contacted a few times to give them the specific model I was after. They insured me they would email me price and time line on when it might be available.......... never heard back. Called a few times, spoke to Bailey and the guy the run it again never heard back. Fast forward, my sons watch battery died. Keep in mind it's just simple Timex but it's a special big boy watch. Wanting to let him experience a watch shop and such, we went in to have it changed instead of me simply changing it. They changed the battery and put in a new O-ring, but of course the battery was dead in a day. Repeated again with better results but it's a hassle to have to make multiple trips for a simple service. Fast forward to the next trip, I have by this time purchased a limited edition Oris. Not from them because they NEVER got back to me like they said they would. Bought from another authorized dealer who communicated promptly and valued my business. Anyway, I wanted to swap out the bezel so my wife went in to see if they could do this. They told her in person absolutely just tell them what I wanted and they could accomplish this in house. I give them a call and they say, no problem send us an email with specifics. So, I do and after several back and forth emails turns out not only are they unwilling to do what they said they would and swap the bezel to another factory bezel they would offer any replacement of parts with factory originals at all. Matter of fact they were going to likely forward my watch to another watch company that deals in Oris and actually does work on them. Long story short, inconsistent communication and poor service with high prices that equals a poor value for me. I am willing to pay a bit more for local service but it needs to be good. Hasn't been the case in several trips here and many calls/emails. I am done trying to buy watches here and the service has been less than ideal for awhile now, just held off on the update since everyone has a bad day now and then. Absolutely fantastic customer service and skills!!! I have a specialty watch that needed several things serviced. In the past, I've had troubles finding people to work on it (in another state) and the manufacturer would charge me a fortune and take a couple of months to service it. These guys took the time to brainstorm the best way to handle the repairs with me and had it done within a few hours! The price for their service was very reasonable too. Their store is super cool and they sell a cool variety of vintage and modern time pieces and other stuff. They have outstanding customer service, are highly skilled, solution-oriented and overall, just wonderful to deal with. I sent my elgin watch (wind up) for repair of a broken crystal. I ended up paying over $350.00 for repairs for a watch that isn't worth $75.00. I don't know exactly what all they claim was wrong with the watch. Now it will not keep time and the main spring will not wind up tight. They had me in a non comprising position as I live in Florida and sent it to them. I sent the watch back and they sent it back stating it was repaired. It was not! Each time of course shipping to and from was getting too costly. I now have a non-functioning watch and out $385.00 overall. Be careful who you chose for watch repair..Very dissatisfied, can't afford this kind of treatment. read more

The Last Wind Up is a must-stop for me whenever I am in Bozeman, Montana. It's a peaceful place to stop in when walking around the bustling downtown area. I love to go in and listen to the clocks ticking - it's like stepping into a different time and place. A slower pace and gentler time. The Shop is located on historic Main Street, in a nicely renovated building. The store itself is beautifully appointed. I could spend HOURS looking at all the antique clocks and watches. They usually have a number of lovely vintage estate jewelry and carefully chosen fine jewelry pieces, along with highest quality artist-made fine jewelry. The cute, trendy items are always fun to look at. Their inventory runs from heirloom jewelry and high end watches valued in the tens of thousands of dollars, to small, fun items that are priced as low as $6. We bought an adorable little pig clock for a collector in our family for under $25. I have my eye on a retro quartz alarm clock priced around $20. I also own a beautiful antique, art-deco mantle clock from the shop. We have had them replace batteries and repair watches for us several times. We have actually mailed items to them to fix because we really trust them. They replace spring pins on watches for free, and mention the Humane Society box on the counter could use a buck if you really want to pay something. The sales staff and the owner have been friendly, helpful and kind when we visit. They did a perfect job on our repairs at a very competitive price and never tried to pressure us to buy more than we needed or could afford, while always attentive to our needs. If you find yourself in Bozeman, do not miss this wonderful little business. The only thing I would like to see different there is perhaps a rocking chair, over on one side, to sit and listen to the tick tock of the clocks. But then, they might not be able to get me to leave. read more

I recently asked LWU to replace the battery in my decades-old TAG. The new battery didn't help. Turned out that the gizmos inside might need replacing instead. Kelly (the world's greatest watch person) said they would investigate and let me know about costs,etc. She called a couple days' later too tell me they cleaned it up, and it was running fine. The only cost was a new battery. Totally satisfied and I would recommend this place to anybody with a watch older than most millennials. read more

Couldn't be happier with the quality of customer service Dave and his staff provided. My emails were answered immediately with my questions answered with great detail. I sent off my watch for repair, to which Dave inspected it right away. His solution to the problem was clear and honest. He fixed the watch and even did his best to buff out a nasty scratch I had on the back for free. They even took care of the warranty information saving me a lot of money. The Last Wind-Up is the only place I would take my grandfather's pocket watch (or my clocks, or my wrist watches -mechanical and quartz) for repair and/or maintenance. They pay great attention to every timepiece in their care and are lovers of the trade as well as the history of timekeeping. They stand behind their work and are never happy until the customer is happy. They are honest and forthcoming ('Sorry, Di, it really isn't worth the cost of the repair') and seem genuinely pleased to see the smile on your face when you pick up your clock or watch. Brought my grandfather's watch in to replace the battery, they scratched the crap out of the back and didn't bother telling me when I picked it up. Brought it back and they buffed it out which was nice, but a day later the battery died. I took it back again and they told me after they don't feel comfortable working on my watch. I wasted 20 bucks to replace a battery and in turn all I received was a scratched watch. If you have a Rolex do not take it into this place, they suck. read more

A gem of a shop on main. I have been into the store three times in the last month. 1: battery repair: in and out in less than five minutes, affordable, no problems. 2. Dropped my watch and the second hand fell off. They stopped what they were doing to try and fix it for a half hour. 3. As a result of dropping it, the watch kept sticking. I've owned my Swiss made auto winding watch for years and while it looked great, it was never reliable because sometimes it would stop while I was wearing it. The folks at The Last Wind Up told me it needed a new spring and a cleaning since I've never had it serviced. It was not cheap but it was a small percentage of the value of the watch so I bit the bullet. Now it works great and I can actually enjoy using the thing instead of worrying if stopped and then restarted, making me late while thinking I was on time (this happened more than once). After the work was done I noticed it ran a little fast and considered taking it back for an adjustment. Then, after a while, it slowed to the perfect rate and now keeps perfect time. Maybe the new spring needed to "settle"; I'm not sure. I do know that the good people at The Last Wind Up know their stuff. My time piece is now as accurate as it is handsome. read more
