I recently had an issue with my lawnmower that I bought through Owenhouse, and after having days of frustrations with the manufacturer, I finally reached back out to Owenhouse Small Engine Repair staff. I was amazed at how quickly they settled the issue for me. They not only were very kind, thoughtful, and empathetic but also decided to take matters into their own hands and replace the product right on the spot. Dave and his whole team there were very thoughtful, and it turned a really bad customer service experience into a really great one. Would give zero stars if I could. I have had numerous occasions in which I have been shown no respect and treated like garbage. slow slow service times, and literally zero respect for clientele. Most of the younger techs are really good to work with, but the old guard has no idea how to run a business. Usually people here are almost too helpful so I don't mind paying a little more for an item. However, on Monday I had a pretty bad experience. I called the Ace at the mall looking for washing soda. Not a common item to me but supposedly used all the time. There was no one to see if they had it immediately so they took my phone number. Exactly 30 minutes later they called back and verified that they had washing soda. I immediately got in the car and drove to the store. The shelves were empty so I asked the guy stocking the section. He said he would go look and came back after about 15 minutes. He said they had 3 but he was too busy to look for them in the incoming bins. I left the store and drove over to Rosauers where they had it on the shelf. The brand I was looking for comes in a pretty big yellow box so it should have been easy to find. Basically I spent an hour looking for a product at the Ace store because I was a loyal customer and was told they are too busy to sell me something. This is not acceptable. I do note that my interaction could have all been with the same employee who was having a bad day but I will probably not try them first next time. read more

I had the displeasure of experiencing the helpful hardware store while trying to replace a couple of cracked sockets. Craftsman has always had a free replacement so I thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately they don't have 6 sided sockets but rather 12 sided that are made in China. Still better than my split sockets I thought. Anyhow 30 min later after taking to 5 different employees and twice with the same manager I finally was charged several dollars for some cheap Chinese 12 sided sockets. Strangely my sockets were not even in the system but they were still able to calculate that my American made sockets were off lesser value. Garbage store with garbage help peddling garbage tools, in my opinion. read more

Interesting tid-bit: I'm a regular there, so they know me and trust me. I was looking for an obscure part and the guy said "Maybe we have something in the basement that will work." I had been looking around all day for a bearing to fix the fan for my fireplace. I was fed up with being told to just buy a new fan ($150) or being told they didn't have the part i needed. Once I got to ace the first associate to help me was genuine in trying to help me find the right part ( i wish i caught her name) she then lead to me Ron who immediately new i needed just one 25 cent nylon bushing. He found the bushing and put it in the fan and the fan works great. Great place, genuine people! read more

Where else but Owenhouse Ace Hardware could you get ten minutes of expert help in finding one nut for an odd-sized bolt? When I checked out, my bill was like maybe a dime. I felt like I had stepped into the past. And as another reviewer pointed out, you can still get out-of-season things, in my case a simple indoor flower pot. I had gone to both Kmart and Walmart but they had nothing but Xmas things where there used to be garden things. And yet, Ace keeps their prices competitive. read more
