Firstly I thought that on a Friday afternoon that the place would be rammed and I'd have to wait an age to get ripped in to those tiny, tender poultry pieces but I was wrong I walked in ordered at the bar and less than 15 minutes later I was presented with a wooden bowl of 33 glazed buffalo wings - all for £8.95! The price was good and the wings did live up to the hype but I wouldn't say they were earth shattering. There was just the right amount of glaze but the wings themselves lacked meat. Yesterday's visit to The Hudson reaffirmed how good the bar is in my eyes - it's such a jack of all trades - serves a whole host of different beers - I had the Sam Adams, something that you don't see too often in Belfast. It really is the perfect place to garb some wings and have a beer on a Friday afternoon.

I had a club sandwich which was served with skinny fries & a nice little bit of salad, really enjoyed it all. My husband had the steak sandwich with chunky chips which got a thumbs up from him. Will definitely be back I'm back! Having food before my birthday party which is happening upstairs, tonight I went for scampi & chips....yum! Menu is limited but what they do, they do well. Table had a mix of chunky chips, skinny fries & sweet potato fries all of which are delicious

I am the wrong side of 30 after all. OK, 40. God knows how but a few weeks ago I ended up upstairs in the Bot after a few gins to many with dinner in the Barking Dog. It seemed like a top idea to dance like an complete $%^& among the 17 and 18 year olds. I should have known better when I heard the guy taking money at the door talking about his A level choices. So we parted with our £5 each just to get in. The cheek of it. For this we were rewarded with cheesy music, sticky floors and nowhere to sit. Did it put us off? Heck no. We had a total blast and managed to blank out the pitying looks from the people who were young enough to be there. We paid over the odds for unchilled wine, downed it as if it was the finest chablis and danced out little eldery socks off. Fantastic. The Bot is unsophisticated, unpretentious and a great place to really let your hair down. I believe there may have been a DJ, out couldn't swear to it in court. What I do know for sure is that we had a great time with a jovial crowd, no hint of trouble whatsoever. The large bar had the full range of beer, cider, alcopops and cocktails and despite the crowds, service was quick. We were finally kicked out about 1.30am which means the bar closed at 1.00am. Then it was on to the Kremlin. But that's a whole other review.....

The food is big and consists of all the burgers and steaks you vcan think of-a real bloke's menu. And the portions are huge too! The pepper sauce is a must have-yum! Its the favourite lunchtime haunt of the suits that spill out from the nearby offices and hard to get a seat during the week at this time and does be pretty packed out in the eveings too especially at the weekend- most definately a popular place to be. It also hosts itself as a bit of a sports bar donning big screens equipped with Sky Sports for fan's of every event be it football, rugby or cricket. A great wee place with great draft beer and drink promo's in the early evening. Food served 12-9pm and 2-7pm on a Sunday.

The music on offer here is usually hard house or techno, admittedly not my thing but anytime Katriona's playing I know I'll be in for a good night. The venue itself is a basement. I'm not a massive fan of the venue. I liked to get dressed up on a Saturday night and the Basement doesn't really suit that. The dance floor is too small and located in between the bar and the door, so I don't think any real atmosphere gets going in this place. The bar is fine and well equipped and the last time I was there Smirnoff were giving out free flavoured vodkas. I think if the Basement glammed up its act a bit and got a bit of a refurbishment it might scrub up well.

The dark wood and tiled floor give it a feel of The Crown but without the tourists and dodgy toilets. It is a bit of an old man's bar, but having been in with a group of girls who had no interest in watching the sport on the big screens, it went down a treat. There is also a pool hall upstairs, which although nowhere near as good or big as Laverys it is perfect for pottering away the afternoon. While it's neighbour The Errigle may be busier, the craic is superior in the Pav and you unlike the great selection of beers ,you can't get that on draught. ;-)

This night was top class and came recommended by the Guardians Guide- put that in yer pipe! Captains Topsy and Pixie play, in their own words '40's swing, 50's rock'n'roll, 60's girl groups, Motown, 80's alt pop and a load of shit/ brilliant stuff', well done girls on describing your own night, this is spot on! The music was amazering! Loads of sixties classics like 'These boots were made for Walkin' fitting snuggly between 'Walk like an Egyptian' and a bitta Dolly Parton 'Nine to Five'. There were also some amazingly crap tunes like Cotton Eye Joe, oh dear, but it was all in the name of good fun. Most people came dressed in cowgirl and cowboy outfiits, including one guy who went a bit far and wore a pair of leather chaps, cowboy boots with a pair of boxers underneath and a waistcoat. It ensured there was a 5 mile radius around this dude on the dancefloor for the entire night, but hey, he was enjoying himself. The downstairs bar is nice and elegant, but the TV's showing sport were really intrusive whilst trying to have a nice drink. Upstairs the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed. I would definitely recommend this night to you, yes you, I know we don't know each other that well but you'll enjoy it. Trust me! Check Hellza Poppin Belfast for the next hoedown.

A friend and I called in here a while back while we were waiting to meet a friend ... 'm pretty sure I'll never be back. As we walked through the door, the men at the bar actually cheered! Talk about feeling uncomfortable! I'm sure the both of us were beetroot! We felt obliged to buy a drink after taking a quick run in to the disgusting toilets (with the door hanging off and no toilet roll!) and I don't think I've ever drank a round so quickly, we literally were itching to get out. Not that we were treated badly or anything, but the whole vibe of the place was simply scummy. I'm sure it does its job as a local watering hole, but I'll leave it to the locals.
