Moist and tender meat, but a surprisingly crispy bark that was full of flavor. I'm not a big sauce person and the sandwich did not need it. I did try it on a bite and it was actually pretty good. Sweet with a slight bit of heat. Baked potato speaks for itself. The size alone was well worth it. Chopped brisket was tasty and was a perfect compliment to a dressed potato. I was looking forward to some pork ribs, but they had sold out within the first 30mins. I'm sure it's a testament to how good they are. Thank you for taking the time to accommodate us at the last minute on one of the busiest weekends in San Antonio, GRADUATION TIME. While we were indecisive on whether to utilize your services, then agreeing, then canceling and then confirming a day and a half prior to the event, YOU came through! While most caterers would have not accepted the job, you did, against your better judgment. While the Brisket was not the quality that you are accustomed to serving, I understand time constraints prevented your usual 14 hour minimum cook time. I suggest in the future, that you do not offer that item if time does not allow. I know you were trying to give the customer what they want, but "No good deed goes unpunished!" When you brought the food it was more than what I was expecting for the number we provided. The chicken was INCREDIBLE, green beans and mac & cheese were quite tasty too. I know we only purchased food, and no set was required. Surely, you were not expected to provide sterno chafing stands and sternos for the very modest price! You did however supply decorative plates, utensils, cups, napkins, and all the condiments for our meal! This revealed your eye for details and mission to please! I got 2 pieces of fish, 2 sides and a Dr Pepper but was disappointed with the size of the fish pieces. What's worse is the $20 price that I foolishly wasted when I could've gotten better fish from Laguna Madre and I don't even like that place. I mean who in their right mind goes to a BBQ place for fish? And the last time I came here wasn't any different. The brisket was dry and the sausage and turkey were mid. The creamed corn was ok and the pinto beans weren't hot enough. Oh and the last 2 times I ate here, they were out of my favorite item and the only good thing they serve here, the peach cobbler. Instead I got the banana pudding which was just like those crappy, pre-made banana pudding cups found at any roadside chain gas station/convenience store like Buc-ee's or The Texan. It is roomy and spacious inside and the seating consists of picnic tables designed for crowds of people and has live music on the weekends. When you pull up to the restaurant there's a storefront reminiscent of an old Western film with a 7up logo. Texas Pride is one of those overhyped and overrated BBQ joints that probably used to be good in its heyday which was probably back in the mid 90s to 2000s but then fell off drastically somewhere along the line. Do your appetite and wallet a favor and bypass TP BBQ and make the extra drive to La Vernia and go to Rabel's off FM 775 and FM 1346 and thank me later!

I was excited to have a locally owned/operated BBQ place in UC. I've been to Davilas a couple times…read morenow. At best, it's average BBQ. Just keeping in real. It's significantly better than Bill Miller a block a way, but considering the quality of BBQ one can get within just a few miles, Davila's isn't high on my list. I've had the Brisket, Ribs, and Sausage with a couple different sides. The brisket was overly fatty, likely not prime cuts and not trimmed well when smoking or serving. This last time, my brisket wasn't even all that tender. I had to cut it with a knife. Being in the Brisket capital of the world, this isn't going to hold up very well. The ribs were good a couple times, and dry one of the times. So, inconsistent is my rating. Sausage was solid. Sides were normal...nothing stood out, but they weren't a liability either. For the money, there are much better options that aren't far away. As far as the restaurant itself, it's just a weird vibe. Every time I'm there, I feel the same. It's just weird. Very small dining room with limited tables, yet one of the tables in the back has the manager's computer, backpack, etc... on it. There isn't fountain drink option...only canned/bottled drinks other than tea, but you have to get your ice refills from the counter. There are 3 large "shop" fans blowing air around...I couldn't even put a napkin on my lap or my table without them blowing away. Again, not a huge deal...just weird. I hope things work out for them in the long run. I'm always rooting for locally owned restaurants.
