I brought my car into Boxer to have them do an oil change - here is what the bill lists as services they perform during an oil swap: Lubricate and check chassis, change oil and filter, check air filter and breather filter. Check all fluid levels and tire pressures. Perform basic safety inspection, road test vehicle. I watched the entire process, here is what they did: They changed the oil and filter, maybe checked (some of) the fluids. Nothing else. Most concerning, once they lowered the car off the lift, they started it and DID NOT check the oil level again. Like most shops they pre-measured the oil to add to the car after draining the old oil. This is a fine system as long as you get all the old oil out (spoiler - this doesn't happen as consistently as you might think). Too much or too little oil can have disastrous consequences. After an oil change, you run the car and re-check the level. This is peak half-assedness. I wouldn't come back here again or recommend that anyone does. read more

Oddly enough, I'm leaving a 5-star review for the work Boxer Motor DIDN'T do. I took my 2007 Subaru Outback to three different shops to try and fix an engine misfire/cat converter issue and all of them told me different things. Finally brought it to Boxer Motor works (which I should have done in the first place) and he informed me the cat converter was under warranty. He was right. Brought it to my subaru dealership and they fixed it for free. Saved me over $1000. He easily could have not told me it was under warranty and done it himself. Gotta respect that. Brought the wife's 08 Impreza in for service. I always hate going to places to get our cars worked on as I am a former dealership master tech and service manager. I currently don't have access to a shop with my new job and can only do limited work in my driveway. So I'm always cautions about where it get serviced and probably overbearing to their service departments. I'm not the best customer :) That being said. I arrived at my scheduled time. Sergio, one of their techs and owners, greeted me and took my keys and showed me to their modest but effective lounge. I started working on my laptop and was soon greeted by Jay the other owner who quickly gathered my information and got the paperwork going and asked great questions. Asking your customer more than just "What's it need?" is incredibly important for the shop to be time efficient and for the customer to be reminded of things they didn't intend to get looked at right away but the questioning jogged their memory. I rattled off a few things to take a peak at as well and told them some concerns I had and away they went getting my 08 Impreza serviced. Later Jay came and got me to show me a few things under the car which is very much appreciated. As a former tech, I don't just want to hear what's wrong, I want to see it so I can judge for myself how important it is. Jay and Sergio went over a few things under the car and gave me some quick informal quotes as nothing was pressing and I had told them already I wasn't getting anything extra done today. At no point did I feel pressured or "hard sold" on anything. He did a great job of just advising me, "this is what is wrong, this is the fix, this is the rough price." I couldn't have hoped for a better experience. Both Jay and Sergio were very friendly, relatable, and incredibly professional. The shop looks great for an independent shop. Their rates are great, and I appreciate not paying extra per hour for a nicer lounge, or better lighting. I'm there on a mission to get my car serviced/repaired and that's what they did. Thanks Jay & Sergio. I appreciate it. My WRX will be in soon and I'm sure its going to make y'all a few bucks too :) I would recommend the shop to anyone including my friends and family. read more

Very grateful to Sergio for giving me good advice. I called him a month ago because my car needed an expensive repair, and I had heard he was a good mechanic. But he let me know that the manufacturer had an extended warranty for that repair, which I didn't know about! My mileage was just over the limit, but he encouraged me to call the manufacturer anyway, and he was right! The manufacturer didn't pay for the whole repair, but they did foot a good chunk of it. I have been to Boxer about five times over the past two months with two different cars. Sergio and Jay (owners) have been amazing!!! First when I brought my 2012 Hyundai Elantra in with an alternator issue, Sergio informed myself and my father that he didn't think it was worth me paying for a new alternator because the engine sounded horrible and he felt that the engine would go soon after. Needless to say he easily could have installed the alternator and I would have been on my way. I really respect their honesty. Moving forward my father gave me his 2008 Subaru Forester and Sergio and Jay have done a ton of work on it the past few weeks. They really are the best! I can't thank them enough! They are professional, honest, incredibly knowledgeable and also explain things in a way that I can understand and even will show me the problem instead of explaining it. This has to be the BEST mechanic shop around. Sergio is smart, kind, fair in pricing and goes the extra mile to ensure he has a safe and happy customer. Run by 2 former Subaru techs that are very knowledgeable about other makes as well. I take my car here if there's any work I can't do on my own and have never been disappointed. Will answer questions by email or by phone and the pricing is fair. While they don't provide tuning they do have a lot of knowledge about the aftermarket and do extensive work on modified cars. read more
