I wanted to get some ice cream and stopped by here since there was no line. I ordered a small pineapple Dole Whip and vanilla ice cream. The Dole Whip was light and refreshing. The ice cream is from Tillamook and was creamy and fulfilling. It's a big spacious place and there's indoor seating. It was cold so I appreciated that there was plenty of indoor seating which is a rarity for a dessert place in Old Sacramento. The portions are small so a bit overpriced. We wanted a sweet treat around the old sac area and ended up coming here! The inside is fairly small but there is a small seperate area with tables and chairs! It wasn't busy at all but did take a bit to get to us but it was okay! It was nearing the end of the night and there were only two workers, which were both patient and nice. There is a limited amount of flavors but for ice cream but they did have all the classics! I did like how there was so many flavors for dole whip! i just assumed there was only pineapple so i was excited and ended up getting strawberry! "Cool" Place. I also refer to this place as "that one spot where they sell Dole Whip" in Old Sac. On hot days when we're roaming around Old Sac this is one of the spots we can plan on dropping by. Visited Old Town Sac today and felt like a sweet treat. Wandering along and stumbled across Boxcar Eats. Was far less crowded than the other places nearby, so went in. Nice and quiet while one can have a conversation without having to yell above loud music. The inside is nice and clean while tables are spaced nicely without feeling crowded. The seating area with colorful chandeliers is fun, and they have a good brand of ice cream (Tillamook) with a good selection of flavors. Something was up with the service and shop set-up. It was in the high 90s with a line of people needing respite from the heat. There was only one person working behind the counter taking the orders and preparing the ice cream, and she worked with a meditative slowness. The back of counter space was huge--about half the size of the shop was behind the counter, and it was mostly a vast empty space that the server had to traverse with a cart. I had enough time to puzzle out the inefficiencies of the set-up and contemplate possible solutions. I naïvely thought Dole Whips were only pineapple flavored and only at Disneyland, so we were excited to see mango and raspberry as options in Old Town Sacramento. We ordered one of each flavor, and they were overly sweet like sorbets, not quite the texture and flavor we get at the Tiki Room, so there was a bit of regret there. Now they got a ton of different flavors, but I always fall back to the good ol pineapple. The shop is busy, but pretty fast service. This is the cutest frozen yogurt/ ice cream shop I have ever seen!! I didn't even know it existed in old town Sac! From the decor, to the flavors, the toppings, and the location this place is a must see! There is a really cool map on the wall and they have you put a sticker on where you were born, so neat!
