Convenient. The store clerk is friendly. My only complaint is that it is not open late nights or on weekends.

Yesterday we stopped in for water before a walking tour but my favorite thing to stop in for is the soft serve ice cream!!

The moment you walk in, the retro 1950s diner ambience immediately transports you back to classic Americana dessert culture. They've apparently been serving Sacramento for over 37 years! - Hot Fudge Sundae -- made with Gunther's vanilla & chocolate ice cream, topped with whipped cream, pralines, and a candied cherry; beautifully presented with warm hot fudge drizzled all over - Lemon Raspberry Cake -- moist sponge cake layered with lemon, raspberry, and whipped cream; balanced sweetness with buttercream-coated sides The red booth seating and vintage Americana decor really complete the nostalgic vibe. Service was friendly and quick, and the overall ambience was cozy, retro, and diner-themed. Rick's Dessert Diner definitely feels one-of-a-kind, I'll have to stop by again next time I'm passing through Sacramento.

Rick's was the only place open late that had actual desserts. I mainly ate their cakes. They looked amazing. But I really did not enjoy them. Too dry. Just not good, compared to other bakeries in town. Over the years, Rick's remained a Sacramento staple, and when they opened up their new location in Midtown, the dessert community welcomed them back and embraced their sweet offerings, bigger space, and late night hours. I never went til just a couple weeks ago. Around 9pm on a Friday night I was craving banana cream pie and the husband wanted cherry pie. On Yelp search, Rick's came up as the top choice that was open. So we went and stood in the long line. The place was crowded and loud. Lively and busy vibe. Line moved at a good pace and the staff helping were nice but hurried. So we took our lil pies to go. We both liked our chosen pies. Now I know what to order if I go back to Rick's. Pies over cakes. Every time.

But my friend convinced me to give it a try at The Parlor Ice Cream ad Puffs and WOW O WOW!! I ended up getting an unglazed donut with coffee ice cream made and it was incredible. They have a great selection of Gunther's ice cream so you really can't go wrong with a flavor. The warm donut paired perfectly with the cold, creamy ice cream, and the coffee flavor worked so well with it all together. Definitely something I'll save for an occasional treat, but it's also something I have already been thinking about often now. The staff was also super sweet and welcoming. I'll definitely be back!

It's a small dessert ice cream parlor who is known for their ice cream donut which you can customize. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and explained everything about their menu and what they are known for. They do have a pretty limited ice cream flavor but given they are a small ice cream parlor I guess this is understandable. Anyways, me and my cousin got the salted caramel and cookies and cream donut and vanilla. So they actually put the ice cream in the donut then they bake it and then put powder sugar on top of it. You have an option between regular donut and glazed and we chose the regular since we didn't want it to be sweet. It's a good take on dessert but can be a little messy because of all the powdered sugar. The ice cream is good but nothing out of the ordinary. It was a good stop for a quick dessert.

Parking is a little bit hard to find, since you're mostly looking for street parking. Upon entering, the FroYo place had a nice interior that reminded me of a modern casual design with some contemporary elements that created a playful atmosphere. There were some high chair seatings to the right, and some lounge chairs to the left Unfortunately, by the time I came in, they were not allowing us to sample any of the 6 flavors which was a bummer (New York cheesecake, cappuccino, cable car chocolate, vanilla, pomegranate raspberry or euro tart). The flavors are pretty limited, so if you're looking for a place with a wider assortment of flavors, I might recommend somewhere else. However, the toppings bar was nicely stocked with a bunch of different things to choose from, which was one of its saving graces. Once you're done, you weigh your FroYo at the counter. I would've given a solid 4 stars to this place; however, while we were eating the FroYo, the man who was working decided to go into the back of his shop and listen to his shows rather loudly. I could hear the sounds from the shows over the music they were playing, so it made the ambiance a little awkward since I wasn't able to vibe to the music. Thus, creating a rather rambunctious atmosphere. Overall, I do think this place has some room for improvements, especially with their flavor profiles.
