4 stars -- Great service and a fun group lunch at Mallory Hill Country Club…read more On Sunday, July 5, my golf group and I--16 people total--had lunch at Mallory Hill Country Club in The Villages after our round. When I made the reservation, they let me know we would likely be split into two tables, which worked out just fine. Our server was fantastic. She had a great sense of humor, knew the menu well, and handled our large group like a pro. When we explained that each couple needed separate checks, she was gracious and even thanked me for making it easier for her to organize the bill. Her service was excellent from start to finish. My spouse and I ordered taco salads as our main meals and hot chicken wings as an appetizer. The wings were very good, but unfortunately, neither of us was impressed with the taco salads. Overall, everyone had a great time socializing, and the rest of the group seemed to enjoy their meals. We would be willing to come back and try something different next time. I'm giving Mallory Hill Country Club 4 stars because, while our main entrees missed the mark, the hot wings were enjoyable and the service was truly outstanding.

In fact, a cop pulled me over and the first thing he asked me was, "Do you love horses?" I told him they were my life and he let me off the hook. I wasn't in Ocala or at OcalaBets for horses though. I was here for a poker tourney. After the tourney, I went to the bar and ordered some food, which was Steak Tips & Rice. It was served in a bowl that slopes downward toward you, which is always cool. If being a Pro Skater or Surfer is Cool Level 10, it always makes me feel like I'm at Cool Level 8.7, which is pretty high! And the food was delicious. I kept searching for one more grain of rice so I wouldn't be done yet, but eventually I was done. This made me sad. But then I chose to focus on the positive memories and I was happy again. The service here is strong. Everyone is friendly and efficient. Even the chef came out to say hello. The atmosphere is also a big win, but that's only if you're comfortable in a horse racing/poker environment. I would look past that anyway and go straight to the bar for food. It costs nothing to go and my meal was superb. Definitely recommended!

I can no longer recommend Ocala Bets after playing in Sunday's tournament…read more They have some great dealers, but the consistency simply isn't there. I'll be the first to admit that dealing poker is difficult. Keeping the table comfortable, enforcing rules, tracking cards and bets, and managing the action requires skill and concentration. It's a job I honestly couldn't do. That said, anyone taking on that responsibility should be committed to improving. On Sunday, too many dealers were paying more attention to the football games than to their tables. Raises weren't consistently announced, and dealers weren't communicating how many players remained in the hand. These are basic responsibilities, especially when people are playing with their own money. I'm not new to Ocala Bets. Being open for only a couple of years doesn't excuse ongoing problems. The expectation should be consistent improvement. The gentleman I spoke with on Sunday acknowledged my concerns and said this was a known issue. He mentioned that there were many new dealers, but the dealers I observed being inattentive were not new. In those cases, the issue appeared to be a lack of focus, not experience. Every poker room has issues, but that doesn't make these problems acceptable. I'd rather drive an hour or so to play at The Silks.
