Bow Wow Bathhouse - Pet Groomers Near Me - Whately, Massachusetts

Have been taking our Vizsla there for almost two years now. Looked at other places, and they wanted 'evaluation' fees and extra fees for allowing play with other dogs. While there was an evaluation at Bow Wow before were started boarding her there, there was no 'fee'. And the dogs all play with each other indoors and outdoors all day long. I mean, that's what we leave them there for when we can't play with them ourselves - right? I found it ridiculous that other nearby kennels wanted to charge extra for that. Bow Wow knows our dog, greets her by name when we get there, and she always leaves tired and happy. Update 2/11/2015 The measure of a service is not when things are going great, but when things are going wrong. I've had good service with Bow Wow for the past two years, and thought nothing of dropping off my dog while my family went away for vacation. So imagine my surprise when I arrived to pick up my dog, and there's a long delay, and Marcy, the owner, comes out without my dog to say that my dog has a 'scratch or cut', that they don't know when it happened, and that they were 'cleaning it up' and it would need antibiotics and 'maybe stitches'. So we wait another five minutes and out comes our dog with a deep laceration in her side that I immediately took to the vet and required six staples to close, plus antibiotics. The vet estimates that because of the surrounding inflammation that the wound happened 12-24 hours ago. After the vet, I get home and find that a small part of her ear was bitten through. My dog most likely was attacked by another dog, long enough to have her ear and her side bitten. How can this be? The dogs are supposed to be monitored while playing together. How could one not notice when two dogs get into enough of a tussle that an ear and chest gets cut open? It worries me that my dog was left unmonitored long enough that she got those injuries that apparently were unrecognized for half a day or more. But the way the staff and Marcy handled it when they brought me my dog - after trying to clean up the dog, being vague on when it happened, and trying to minimize the injuries when it was clear that the dog needed to be at a vet and needed stitches, I can't trust them to watch my dog. I'm not taking her back there. They contact me and offer to pay the vet expenses - okay. They then send me a check two weeks later that's $30 less than what I paid. I can't figure out why they would do that. read more

This is my third experience with a dog groomer in the area and it is my first that I am willing to recommend. The place was off the beaten path but easy to find and reach from Sunderland. The girls at the front desk were friendly and professional. I was not sketched out leaving my dog behind (note: I have been at previous grooming establishments in the area). They were fast and had my dog ready within a few hours. I thought the price was reasonable ($65) and certainly cheaper than other places (e.g. PetCo). And most importantly, my pooch looked adorable. She emerged smelling MUCH better and looking cute with her fur trimmed very nicely. A great place to bring your dog for grooming. This place also offers doggie day care and boarding. I have not utilized these services. read more

This was my 3rd time boarding my Plott hound. He is a lively, active 2 yr old male (neutered), very affectionate and well behaved. First time he came back with a cut or bite on his tail, and a lot of scratches on his belly, but otherwise happy. The manager attributed it to rough play, and while I wasn't thrilled, we took it in stride. Second time no incidence, and again he was happy, just kind of muddy. We boarded him just this week for 2 days, and requested he be bathed, before we picked him up. When we brought him home he seemed off, and did not immediately jump up to greet us- very strange behavior. A mystery until we checked his feet. Some how he ripped the pads off his hind feet! We immediately rushed him to the Vet. She said it was an unusual injury for winter- she has seen this type of wound in the summer when dogs might be on hot pavement. When I got a call back from the handler, she said she had checked him out before he left and didn't find anything wrong. They claimed that because it wasn't negligence on their part, they wouldn't contribute towards the vet bill. So all they offered was a 'sorry'. So much for their luxury pet resort!! I don't understand how it could be missed, and why they let my dog suffer in pain. I didn't expect to have to take my pet to his vet, right after his stay, I thought he would be well cared for. I believe they lack supervision and something happened during the playtime, or during his bath. The heel portions of his hind feet were ripped right off. Never going back to this facility, and would only recommend it if you're desperate. read more

Chester's tail starts wagging when we make the turn onto Long Plain Road. He knows it is Bow Wow play time! We love the familiarity and care that is shown to each and every dog/cat. I have been a customer of bow wow for over a year now. They are always incredibly accommodating even though I am admittedly last minute with my requests to board my beloved pup. It is immediately evident that everyone that works there is truly an animal lover. I am never worried about my 4 legged friend when he is in their care. Bow wow employees even take the time out to post a ton of pictures of their "clients" as they call them to Facebook! I always feel a huge sense of relief knowing that there is someone out there to care for my pup in the event I have to leave town. I am pretty sure they have also helped my dog while in their care to work on things I may have been struggling with at home. Sam, one of the employees of the business is a sweetheart. It's easy to see that she isn't only working there for a paycheck. She clearly loves the animals she cares for. As long as they are in business, I wouldn't think of going anywhere else! My German Shepherd, Zoe, has been going to Bow Wow Bathhouse for over 4 years. She has both boarded there and been in the day program. She loves it there. She immediately runs to the door to go to play. I get great reports of her day and any concerns that might have come up during the day. The staff has taken all of my suggestions about behavioral issues without difficulty. This has been a great place for Zoe. I totally recommend it. read more

Called to board our 8 month old pitbull puppy. At first we didn't even mention her breed and just let them know she was super friendly and was submissive to play with other dogs so she's never had even a remote "aggressive incident." Then they asked for her breed and the second I uttered the words pitbull they shut me down completely and refused boarding. They kept saying things like they aren't discriminatory of pitbulls and love pitbulls it's just a few recent experiences that made them stop accepting them. They refused to even meet my dog. She's a tiny 35 pound puppy who has never shown any remote signs of aggression. She's completed two rounds of dog training and has always been complimented on her good behavior by an animal behaviorist. Sure it's their right to refuse any dog they want, but they would be totally fine going forward with attempting to board a Labrador with some behavior issues but will outright refuse a perfectly well behaved dog because of their breed. This place came recommended by a co-worker. When they identified my breed over the phone they decided not to even look at him for boarding. It's discriminatory. Well within their right as a business owner to be selective about the dogs they choose to board. However I will say have owned this animal for 4 years I can say he's socially well-adjusted and trained. Experienced dog people can successfully handle dogs of all breeds. read more

I had to take an unexpected trip for work and at the last minute arranged to bring my pair of pug puppies, Finbar & Gracie, to Bow Wow Bathhouse for boarding. They had attended some dog training classes and some doggie daycare sessions where we used to live but had never had to stay overnight anywhere other than home. Needless to say, I was a nervous wreck leaving them overnight in a new place for the first time. All of the staff that I interacted with before, during and after their stay were professional, patient and kind with my millions of inquiries. I was able to see photos on their facebook page while I was away. On the last night of my trip they rang me to let me know that the kennel was going to be empty of other dogs and inquire whether I'd like for Finbar & Gracie to spend the night alone in the kennel or go home with one of their staff to a more "home like" and cozy environment vs being on their own in the building overnight. I want to thank everyone at the Bow Wow Bathhouse for taking such good care of my Shenanigan Twin Hooligans. Finbar & Gracie came home exhausted, happy and in good health. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the cost for two small dogs sleeping in the same space. The boarding cost two times as much as my plane ticket to Florida. It was a last minute trip so I didn't have any other options with friends etc. I would love to use them again in the future but unfortunately don't have the financial means!
