Last June when I moved to Turners Falls my border collie was getting sores on his chest and belly. A call to LUralyn Brown's office eased my anxiety. After I described the problem they said it was-most likely black fly bites and to just watch and bring him in if they didn't get better. They did heal. and what a relief to have a local Vet who was reassuring and not pushing for an office visit. She is our go-to Vet! Highly recommend. read more

We have used Dr Brown for just about 16 years now. We kept her because she was one of the only vets in the immediate area and it had been convenient. However, she missed symptoms of cancer and bloat in our dog. By the time we figured it out, it was too late. We took our dog to the animal hospital in Deerfield, MA where we were told that the symptoms displayed in our dog, "should have been obvious to any trained veterinarian." If you care about your animal, choose a different vet. I suggest the animal hospital in South Deerfield, MA. They are a bit expensive, but they do have your animals best interest at heart, and they do accept CareCredit. read more

This is the best vets office around. Me and my family have brought our pets here for as long as I can remember and we have always been met with kindness and compassion. I tend to get a little hypochondria when it comes to my animals and they always make me feel comfortable and are as flexible as possible to help even if it something small. I can only speak about my experience with bringing cats to Dr. Brown, and since we don't own a dog I can only give four stars for this cat-centric review. We've tried a good many of the local small animal vets in upper county, and are so pleased that we finally found Dr. Brown. She is excellent with cats, and communicates well with their owners, in our experience. We have a special-needs cat, and Dr. Brown has only ever given us the very best care and advice for him and our other felines. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Brown has been my family vet for years (treating my parents dogs and cats as I was a child and now has been a vet my personal dogs for the last 10 years). Dr.Brown has been there for an array of different ailments for my 3 dogs- from ear infections, to skin infections, to lacerations and even performing an emergency C-section when my dog had puppies. She literally saved my dogs life. The love and care she has had for all of my animals is second to none. Years ago, we had a scare with my oldest that he may have had melanoma (it turned out that it was not) but he had to have several biopsies in different areas of his body. After this, he was very apprehensive to go to the vets office. So, instead of having him picked up and put on the table, making him more uncomfortable, Dr. Brown got down on the floor to his level and took the time to sit with him and gave him treats and lovings to make him more comfortable before starting her exam. She took this time to discuss with me the test results and where we were going to go from there. I adore Dr. Brown and her techs as they always try their best to be accommodating and caring. read more

Only went here many years because of the location, but never again. They don't put the wellbeing of my animals before money or their own convenience. Like the other comments, we have experienced our fair share of misdiagnosis and simple bad care. Do not recommend them. Also don't appreciate the fact that after my dog passed, they send me a reminder to bring my dog to the vet for her yearly checkup. read more

Dr. Brown herself is great, so if you can ensure that you get an appointment with her, you'll have a great experience. Dr. Rubin, on the other hand... My girlfriend has been a longtime client and normally tries to get appointments with Dr. Brown. Last week she slipped up and neglected to make sure that her appointment was with Dr. Brown and ended up with an appointment with Dr. Rubin. Even though her dog has a history of Lyme Disease and my girlfriend made it abundantly clear that she wasn't interested in a Lyme Disease vaccination and test, Dr. Rubin did those anyway (charging $100 for them). It turns out that, according to Tufts (one of the leading schools of Veterinary Medicine in the US), it's, if anything, dangerous for a dog with a history of Lyme Disease to have the vaccination. Dr. Rubin assured my girlfriend that there was a money-back guarantee if her dog developed Lyme Disease (though this guarantee would not apply to her dog, owing to the history of Lyme Disease). There really isn't anything in her dealings with Dr. Rubin which indicates that Dr. Rubin doesn't put making a sale ahead of the welfare of animals entrusted with her. read more

Had the exact same experience as the other 1 star below. I took my dog there for 11 years. During the last 6 or so months of my dogs life, we took her to Dr Brown because something wasn't right. She couldn't diagnose the dog. I forgot what she said the problem was, but it was "minor"...even after some very expensive tests were done. I ended up having to take Sandy to the emergency vet in South Deerfield and they did the same test Dr Brown had ordered and diagnosed Sandy right away with cancer. They said her vet should have easily diagnosed her. I had to put her to sleep that day. Got a sympathy card from Dr. Brown. Gee thanks! Ugh. I will never go there again and I DON'T recommend it!! read more

When i moved to turners falls I was thrilled to see there was a vet close by...Dr Brown became my dogs vet from there on, he was 3 months old at the time. The first yr or so was mostly just shots n bloodwork. Things went well until my dog needed actual competent health care, he had(s) been misdiagnosed more than a few occasions there costing me time n money, and my dog discomfort...Every appt ive had there seems short and rushed, not very thorough as a result. Im actually in the process of switching vets at the moment. After coming on yelp I can see others have had similar issues which is unfortunate. Do yourself and your pet a favor and seek a different vet. read more

We brought our dog to Dr Brown's office for about six years, seeing both Dr Rubin and Dr Brown. The office staff were always professional and caring. I think they balanced necessary tests and medications with caring for an aging dog who wasn't going to have surgery on anything minor, for example. We've been to a number of vets in the Amherst and Sunderland area and found Dr Brown and Dr Rubin were always thorough and attentive and fairly priced for good medical care. I know it can be tough to have a surprise vet bill, but that comes with the territory of owning and caring well for a pet. They're on par price wise or less than other vets in the area. We brought our dog to Dr Brown for annual visits and illness/emergencies. When our fifteen year old lab had to be euthanized, they were extremely compassionate and professional and allowed us to say goodbye to him in the kindest way possible. When we are ready for a new pet, we will bring our pet there. read more
