Hertz Rent A Car

Hertz Rent A Car

When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, I asked that I not be given a white one. The person in the…read moreGold office made a snide comment and gave me a different vehicle. I had just arrived on a red-eye flight and was eager to get to my hotel to take a nap. After my nap, I went out to the vehicle to begin the errands I needed to run before I drove over to Eastern Washington to meet family. I immediately noticed the smell of stale cigarette smoke. I also realized that the return location was not correct on my paperwork- I intended to return the vehicle at the Walla Walla airport, but my paperwork said Seattle. I attempted to call the SeaTac Hertz location to let them know about the smoke smell (and the fact that the car was dirty- crumbs everywhere- it was disgusting. I literally called 11 times, calling 2 different numbers that were listed (206-277-2300 and 206-214-8273). Each time I tried to select an option to get a live person. Each time I was instructed to go online, which I could not do given my schedule and lack of computer. The next day, I went ahead and drove to Walla Walla as planned. When I arrived, there was literally no one at the airport. Not a person. So I called the 1-800 number and asked where to leave the key. I got an individual who was obviously in an out-of-country call center who told me to just leave it in the key slot. I went back into the airport and told him there was no specific desk that said "Hertz." He then said that the Walla Walla airport does not accept rentals that originated from any other location due to its small inventory. He then told me I would have to drive the vehicle back to the original pickup location (Seattle, 270 miles in the wrong direction from where I needed to be). It was clear he had absolutely no clue. I then asked if there were other return locations closer to where I was. With prompting by me of towns around Walla Walla, he told me I could return the vehicle to the Tri Cities airport, but that I would be charged a change of return fee. At this point in time, again tired from having driven almost 300 miles, I just said, "fine," but it was absolutely not fine. And because he seemed to be clueless, I decided to call the Tri-Cities Hertz location to make sure they would actually accept the car. I was pleased that a live person actually answered my call. I was not pleased when she told me that the Walla Walla location was no longer in operation and had not been for quite a while. I had checked YOUR website online and THERE IS NO INDICATION that the location is closed. She acknowledged that your website is not up to date on this and another location. I drove the 50 miles in the wrong direction to drop the vehicle off at the Tri-Cities location. The entire experience was frustrating, from the inability to speak with anyone at the SeaTac location before I left Seattle, to the call center person who clearly did not know what he was talking about, to the additional $128 charge I incurred for returning the car to the Tri-Cities. At a minimum, I believe you should reverse this charge. Horrible customer service, incorrect information, and a huge imposition on me and my family member to have to drive in the wrong direction to return the vehicle.

Make sure you reserve your car early as car tend to run out during holidays and summertime. Crystal is amazing and she will accommodate your special requests. We rented a 4 wheel Denali and a Ram Truck which was perfect for the snow driving over the tollgate. It was a blizzard when we were there last March.

The service there was quick, friendly and thorough, all good things. However, this poor rating, and potentially another even worse rating to follow is in regards to the company as a whole and their method and policy of problem solving. It's our first morning here in Walla Walla on a weekend getaway. Upon going out to the car we discover that the key fob doesn't work to open any of the doors. We suspect that the battery must be dead. And if this isn't aggravating enough we soon discover that the hidden key inside the fob doesn't open the door at all. So now we call Budget Car Rental customer service, or should I call it disservice? After giving and receiving the usually verification information and explaining the situation I was informed that I had not purchased and Roadside assistance package, non was offered upon renting the car, and that the fee to come unlock the door and jumpstart the car would be $120 and to add insult to injury, there was going to be a 4 to 6 hour wait in order to receive the needed service. That's complete BULLSHIT!!! We have a getaway vacation to enjoy. Enter AAA, and Thank God for AAA. Free roadside service to their members and they'll have the issue fixed and we'll be on our way in less than an hour. The question that remains is whether or not Budget is going to discount the cost of this rental because of giving us a car with a faulty battery which stranded us and potentially, if not for AAA, detained us from any use of the vehicle, or are they going to stick us with the full price. If that is the case there will be a follow-up review that will be only 1-star and the review will be even nastier.
