So we came up here thinking this would be a good idea but it was actually my worst nightmare. Had to literally hike up a mile long hill just to get to a place the website did not mention it was even being held at. Being a thick girl and thinking I'd wear a cute skirt today was also the worst mistake. I had an actual thigh rash b4 I even got to the undisclosed location the event was happening. We had to ask the crowd walking the opposite direction of where the event was advertised on how to get to it after wandering around 20 mins. When I got there, the security wannabe at the gate said my purse wasn't appropriate. It was too large & not see through. The website said to bring shopping bags for purchases bc they didn't provide them, nothing about them being see through. See pics I took of the large &/or non-see through bags of people leaving the event. Not one see through bag. I passed by several people with larger bags than mine on the hike back to the car in actual tears. So, I spent 45 mins today hiking in a skirt to a place only to be turned away bc they put wrong information on their website. This is not the first event I've tried to attend in Boulder that ended up being some complete inconvenienced bs that was completely misleading on what to expect on their website. Boulder needs to get their information straight on what they advertise on their events. Because it's definitely nothing at all what you experience when you show up. After this being one of a handful of disappointing attempts we've tried to attend in Boulder, I WON'T BE BACK. Way too much hassle & conflicting info than it's worth, only to be met by blatant discrimination. In a city that claims to pride itself on being non-discriminatory, that's ironically all I've experienced here, personally.

I've been enjoying perusing the Boulder Creek Fest for the past several years. While many of the offerings change (who's handing out samples, who's dancing on the kiddie stage) many of the offerings also remain the same (great music on the big stage, good security, and safe places to explore with Fido and/or the kiddos). This year the Boulder Creek Fest was better than ever. I felt like it was much better organized than year's past and really took great advantage of the newly revised grounds near the library. I spent not one, but two afternoons walking around taking in the sights, tastes, and smells. My favorite booth this year was put on by the Colroado Melanoma Foundation. They were offering free skin cancer screenings, score! So awesome to have this offering at the festival! Wait times were short (or they'd send you a text when they were ready for you). Physician assistants were friendly, professional, and thorough. They also had lots of different styles of elta MD sunscreen (my personal fave) so we could make sure to put on another lather before the next lap of the happenings. One thing I haven't taken part in yet is the rides - though I've always wanted to. Overall great event to explore, take in, and attend with a friend or loved one.

We're been coming to the Boulder Creek Festival for many years. It's a great start to the summer in Boulder. There are many things to see and sample. Lots of food, a variety of different vendors, from art to home improvement and even health related items. It's just a fun way to spend the day! Lots of friendly people and fun lounging near the creek.

TEN STARS! The creek fest is my all-time favorite event of the summer! Better than the 4th, better than the Pearl Street sidewalk sale. I love watching the rubber duck race. I'm not going to look it up but I'm going to solemnly declare that Boulder invented the rubber duck race. (Don't pop my bubble if I'm wrong. Like it's even possible!) I love buying food from all the different carts and stalls in the library parking lot and watching cute kids dance, a capella groups perform, and hippies gyrate to sitars and alpine horns. I love looking at all the artisan-wares. I love walking by the funny new-age weirdo tents where they try and lure you in to show you how crystals/pyramid hats/correct spinal alignment are the way to the truth/nirvana. I love looking at the various and sundry folks that come out for the festival. (Boulder may not be diverse racially or politically but we have other diversity in spades!) LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Okay, now I have to go rag on someplace I can't stand to balance out this love fest.... see ya at the creek fest!

I used to go to this when I lived here in the early 2000s. This isn't an art show anymore it's a flea market. I was so disappointed.

It's an uphill and sometimes steep drive on dirt, but nothing a small car can't do. The hike itself starts unmarked but easy to spot the wide gate and uphill trail. You're in the woods for about the first third, then get some great views after some switchbacks. The top is denuded from a fire over 30 years ago, the Black Tiger Fire. Many large trees and stumps can be seen. This is a fantastic view and you can see in 360 degrees. It's particularly great for mountain views, sunrise, and cool clouds. The trail is pretty short 1.5 miles and around 300ft gain, with a broad open top. It's a great trail for most any skill level!

Sugarloaf Mountain is about a half hour outside of Boulder. It is easily seen from the plains-it's the mountain just behind the foothills that is uniformly cone shaped. Let me cut ahead to the pay-off before I fill in the details: A hike up Sugarloaf Mountain from the parking area pays off with magnificent 360 views. The Continental Divide is spread out before you in spectacular fashion. Long's Peak (one of the 14teeners) views are fabulous. To one side are steep drops down talus slopes into Four Mile Canyon. Turn around and you can see Denver and on a cool, clear day, probably Kansas. (not really but it seems that way). I have knocked around the high country quite a bit and been to the top of several peaks, and for the accessability and proximity to Denver and Boulder, Sugarloaf Mountain has some of the best panoramic views. Some of my personal highlights from Sugarloaf hikes: -Watching an eagle glide along on thermals, sometimes above me, sometimes below. -Waving at people in a glider and actually being able to hear the wings of the glider whistling through the air. -Watching the sun set below the snow-capped divide (you can see the Indian Peaks and Never Summer range from here) while sitting in adirondack style chairs made from loose slabs of stone on the western facing side of the peak. Drive west out of Boulder on Canyon (toward Nederland). About 5 miles. Turn right on Sugarloaf Rd., follow it about 4 miles to a right, watch for signs. Trailhead is just a dirt lot. Trail starts with gravel/dirt, becomes very rocky as you climb. Not very steep or challenging if you take your time. Also views of forest fire damage from recent years in surrounding foothills. Just don't do what I did with a visitor: Hiked up sugarloaf one day, biking the next day, on the third day of their visit (they were visiting from an elevation of 600ft.) we went to play racquetball in the morning. Ten minutes into racquetball my guest says "Are the lights in here flickering? Wait, I think I might pass out..." Oops. Altitude.

When Colorado announced Michelin was coming for the first time, I was confident Frasca would get a star. The high end food scene in Denver has improved over the years, but Frasca keeps getting more impressive too without moving away from their fundamentals. The menu changes with the seasons and ingredients, but it can always be counted on to be delicious, impressive, and artistic. The wine menu is almost overwhelming but we'll guided, and the cocktails are unique. Service throughout is expert and engaging, with depth and attentiveness. The occasional crossover events with wineries or other restaurants create completely different experiences. The location on a quiet end of Pearl Street and modern interior fits the understated elegant experience.

Well we remedied that last night for our 34th anniversary and realized just what we have overlooked. To start with the service was simply great, attentive but not cloying like many of the Michelin rated we have visited. They all worked together like you would expect from this level of place and knew the menu and wines that were paired with the detail of a seasoned sommelier. The food was simply sublime and creative. Every aspect worked to make each dish special without that awkward "experimentive" feel that some chefs end up with when trying too hard to be original. As a rated restaurant the menu will change often so I'll not bore you with details of each course. The Shrimp Salsiccia or sausage was original and a delight as well as the Tonno bluefin tuna antipasti. The Tagliatelle with braised veal and the Wyagu ravioli dishes perfect, filled with delightful character. The same experience with our Black Cod and grilled venison Secondi dishes. And the wine pairings worked perfectly with each course so if you don't know wines just take advantage of their obvious expertise. Not being dessert lovers we could not pass on those clever and singular offerings as well. It was a fairly quiet Easter evening and the ambience was soothing and comfortable. We couldn't have been happier to spend our special day any where else! Needless to say we will be back a lot more often. When the Michelin folks finally arrived in our out of the way city they could not have chosen a better place to drop that star!
