I found a captain who had a boat and a website and a Facebook page and everything, and I paid in full in advance to reserve a trip with him... And the night before we were supposed to go, he bailed on us with a weak excuse of why he couldn't take us. We had a really set schedule and only the only possible day to go out fishing, so our chance to go fishing was almost ruined. At that late hour, I wasn't even sure I'd be able to reach another charter company, let alone find space for a party of 6 the next day. I am SO, so grateful to Homer Ocean Charters who took my call late in the evening and went above and beyond to be able to find a boat and a captain to take my family out the next day as we had originally planned. Especially Artis (my sincere apologies if I've misspelled that!) in the front office, who was so kind and helpful. Homer ocean charters got us all set up with Captain Brian and deckhand Ben, two of the most genuinely good guys you could ever hope to meet. They took such great care of us, made sure we had a great time, and of course, made sure we caught lots of fish!! Both guys were just incredible with the two kids in our group (ages 11 & 13). We really could not have asked for a better time! Please, please do yourself a favor. Stop looking now, and just book with Homer Ocean Charters. They will truly make your trip!! Between the long ride out (roughly two hours each way) and the large group size, we ended up with very little actual fishing time, maybe half an hour in total. Nobody in our group was able to hit their limit. Afterward, we tried to share our concerns directly with management, but instead of listening, they argued with us and came across as pretty rude. Each of these guys were professional, courteous, and friendly--they went above and beyond to ensure we had the "opportunity and position" to catch some giant halibuts. While the waters were choppy and the big ones weren't biting--Cooper repositioned us and boom! We were landing some 30 to 45 lbs fish. Totally worth the trip. Additionally, as a dad, I loved watching my son (Chase) work as a deckhand. At 23, he's spent 6-years in Alaska fishing--his hustle, fishing skills, and interactions with the other four guest provided once in a lifetime "proud dad" moments I'll always remember. Salmon fishing was significantly less than normal . Halibut fishing was the same . Came back home with about 70 lbs of filets . Halibut sells for about $30.00 a lb so $2100. 00 worth of fish . Filled our freezer . Easy fishing , getting to the point I don't want 3 hr boat rides so it's great to be fishing here in 20 minutes . Cant beat the scenery. Mostly calm water since we're fishing in a inlet . Fishing shallow water. So no 15 min reeling in a small fish to release it afterwards. Great food , great service , you won't leave here weighing less than when you came .

I highly recommend Ninilchik Charters, we have booked several outings with them and they are very professional and an outstanding group of people. Clam Gulch Campground is a beautiful place to escape on the Kenai Peninsula. Its one of the few…read moreplaces you'll find with a remote beach that you can sun bathe, fish, clam dig and potentially swim if its warm enough all while in the shadows of snow capped volcanoes. This beach is one of my favorite places to escape to in the summer with my husband. The Campground is HUGE, with over a hundred sites that are nicely spaced. There's potable water and pit toilets as well. The wall to the beach is BRUTAL- 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND and you cannot make it in a RV. VERY MUCH Recommend this location if you want to escape, the view is phenomenal. Its about an hour from the nearest significant grocery store in Homer, so bring everything you need.
