Each of these guys were professional, courteous, and friendly--they went above and beyond to ensure we had the "opportunity and position" to catch some giant halibuts. While the waters were choppy and the big ones weren't biting--Cooper repositioned us and boom! We were landing some 30 to 45 lbs fish. Totally worth the trip. Additionally, as a dad, I loved watching my son (Chase) work as a deckhand. At 23, he's spent 6-years in Alaska fishing--his hustle, fishing skills, and interactions with the other four guest provided once in a lifetime "proud dad" moments I'll always remember. Salmon fishing was significantly less than normal . Halibut fishing was the same . Came back home with about 70 lbs of filets . Halibut sells for about $30.00 a lb so $2100. 00 worth of fish . Filled our freezer . Easy fishing , getting to the point I don't want 3 hr boat rides so it's great to be fishing here in 20 minutes . Cant beat the scenery. Mostly calm water since we're fishing in a inlet . Fishing shallow water. So no 15 min reeling in a small fish to release it afterwards. Great food , great service , you won't leave here weighing less than when you came .

Out of 5 fisherman, we landed three halibut over 38" and some small ones. Not as big as I had hoped, but a good experience nevertheless. ------------ Everything went smoothly over the past month as I booked/planned my travel to Alaska from California- a trip of a lifetime of sorts for me, such that I ended spending/investing 6K+ total for the opportunity to fulfill my dream of landing a giant (4ft+) halibut. They told me if that was my sole focus, then I should definitely head out of the Homer, AK port. it was a major commitment, not only for me- but for my wife who was willing to accompany me, since she knew how much it meant to me... after enduring ~6hrs of flights (+3hr layover) and driving 6hr (one way) from anchorage to homer, I received a call from them-- just as I was pulling into "lands end hotel", which i booked soley for this. ---- Unfortunately, they decided to cancel my original booking out of homer (larger boat w/capacity 16+) and sent me to a smaller boat (full capacity) from ninilchik instead (40-60m) drive. Prior to booking, weeks ago, I was ensured by Dustin that my boat out of Homer would head out no matter what (ie: even if the resulting ticket/sales came too low and only my wife and i were on it). But they (corporate?) decided not to honor our original terms, i assume to save on costs. note: i do not blame Dustin for this. it is out of his control. I write this only to hopefully illuminatue how poorly it seems to be run and focused over money-first I understand things can change, ie: massive storm can cancel a trip, but this instance, at least to me, was just out of corporate greed and i ultimately have to pay the consequences. The excuse given to me was that they needed to perform maintenance on the boat, but i hope its obvious to folks reading this that it is not -- with several contradictions. note: Dustin himself was decent enough, so I have no ill will there. it is Ninilchik Charters itself that needs to be held accontable

Clam Gulch Campground is a beautiful place to escape on the Kenai Peninsula. Its one of the few…read moreplaces you'll find with a remote beach that you can sun bathe, fish, clam dig and potentially swim if its warm enough all while in the shadows of snow capped volcanoes. This beach is one of my favorite places to escape to in the summer with my husband. The Campground is HUGE, with over a hundred sites that are nicely spaced. There's potable water and pit toilets as well. The wall to the beach is BRUTAL- 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND and you cannot make it in a RV. VERY MUCH Recommend this location if you want to escape, the view is phenomenal. Its about an hour from the nearest significant grocery store in Homer, so bring everything you need. Well, this is kind of a different review I am writing…read more I actually never took a fishing trip out on the waters of Homer, Alaska with this...North Country Halibut Charters. But... I was walking along the boardwalk area of the downtown Homer Spit section and a boat tour cruise had just completed their expedition. Now afterwards, the passengers were getting a firsthand glimpse into watching their freshly caught king salmons being fileted. Little did I know that after you go out on a fishing charter for the day...it's only customary to then return to the pier and clean and filet your catches. Lol, I have zero fishing experience. So...in getting to watch a professional fisherman/woman do all this for their passengers and witnessing it all with my very own eyes was fascinating! I even recorded it live and added it to my YT Channel...for entertainment purposes only, lol. It was a terrific little exposition, in just how easy it was for the girl to cut open the salmon while efficiently demonstrating her knifing skills. And there was a huge crowd standing around and watching her too. I asked the fisherwoman if I could take a few photos and record a little of her precise fileting and she said that would "be okay and it's fine"...pretty normal for what tourists like myself typically like to do when being exposed to such a cool demonstration. In fact, the girl had a tip jar situated right beside the table counter and of course I happily left her $5 for allowing me to watch. I was quite impressed with her experience, comfortabilities and technique handling such large fish! You could just tell this fisherwoman has been out on the high seas plenty of times and appearing so natural at it all. Unfortunately, I never did take a fishing cruise while in Homer, but after enjoying this fileting demonstration, I started thinking that maybe I should consider participating in a charter in my future travels to all these incredible Alaskan seaports...where they're famously known for catching some of the best fish in the world! In the end, I just appreciated how the tour group caught 5 salmon on their adventure and were now going to enjoy a fresh seafood dinner. Also, the fish they caught were king salmon which I believe are the most prestigious type of salmon you can find. This fileting demonstration was such a pleasant surprise as I was leisurely walking the boardwalk area of downtown Homer Spit. I'm glad I got to experience it.
