My son and I recently went out for back-to-back days with this outfit. Halibut and rockfish one day, halibut and king salmon the second day. Easy to book. Nice 6 passenger boat with good equipment. We hit our limit each day except for the salmon who were a bit elusive. Did catch them but didn't hit the limit, but the crew tried. Captain and deckhand were great. We were disappointed with our halibut fishing trip. Rob's Trophy Charter booked 17 people on this small boat, even though their web site said they would not normally do this (web site says: "We don't like to crowd the boat and normally she averages between 8-12 passengers a trip"). We lined the rails, one person every 3 feet. Because we had so many people fishing, everyone kept getting tangled with each other. I had to reel in my fish, and two other people's fish, because we were all tangled up. It was a lot of work for sure, reeling in 3 fish at the same time, and no fun since they were just being dragged like dead weight. When we left the pier, the captain said that we could go to the spot where we could catch big Halibut, but after trying to fish there, and everyone getting tangled up, we had to cruise another hour, 3 hours total, to arrive at a place where all the fish were relatively small. After about 30 minutes, everyone had their 2 fish limit of small Halibut and we cruised another 3 hours back to port. On top of all this, we were recommended to use "Home Fish Processing", instead of "Coal Point Fish Processing", Coal Point was a closer fish processing company located right there on the pier with the boat. We had fish processed before, and the processor always weighs the fish when you give it to them so everything is up front and expectations are known. Homer Fish Processing does not weigh your fish for you so that you know how much fish you will get frozen. Instead; they just pick it up, take it to their plant and process them. I was not comfortable with this as all of us on the ship, including 2 Boat Charter Captains themselves that were on board, thought that our 2 filleted fish should weight about 20-25 pounds. I picked them up, and based on the weight of our luggage, thought that 20-25 pounds seemed about right. When we picked up our fish all we received was 12 pounds of Halibut fillets each person, basically 6 pounds per fish. On top of that, Home Fish Processing charged us about double what Coal Point Fish Processing quoted us. This is not right! I can't help but wonder if Home Fish Processing is keeping some of the customers fish to sell themselves. Also, is Bob's Trophy Charters getting a kick back from Homer Fish Processing to refer them to customers? In my opinion, something does not smell right hear. I would like to give a shout out to the 2 female deck hands, Cori and another young lady. They worked very had to untangle everyone so many times and did great. read more

Easy booking online. Pretty much the first one you see when you google Homer Halibut charters. Great crew! Very friendly and helpful crew. They are very patient with inexperienced halibut fishers so that was really nice. Me not so much.....some people who lack the strength to reel in a halibut shouldn't be out there. They did provide a great comfortable ride out to the fishing grounds. Bring a snack or a meal, thet have tables and seats but no food for purchase. On the trip out on the Jackpot..Chicken Butts are easy to get, however if you want the barn doors...you may want to book a custom package with them if you want the bigger butts. Overall great charter...if you want to avoid noobs go with a 6 pack or custom trip. read more

Pretty disappointed with their handling of a situation this morning... Was sick overnight with food poisoning the night before my trip, and wasn't well enough by the time the boat was leaving to go out for a full-day charter. Showed up to the office at check-in time to let staff know what happened instead of no-showing. The gentlemen in the office was nice enough and agreed if I'd been sick they didn't want me on the boat, but refused to offer any sort of refund or credit due to an illness. He explained it was because the boat was full and they had had to turn business away for my seat, except that was a lie. Up to the afternoon before (a few hours before I got sick), I was the only person scheduled for a full-day salmon and halibut combo. Late that afternoon my mother-in-law got a notification that I'd been moved last minute (she paid for the charter as a birthday present to me) to another boat because no one else had scheduled for the full-day combo. They moved me over to a full-day halibut and refunded the difference in price, which is fine, I understand they have a business to run and sending a 30' boat out with only 1 customer doesn't pay the bills. That simply shows that they didn't "turn any business away" for my seat as it was the end of the day when the decision was made. When we went to the office to let them know I wasn't medically fit for the trip, we weren't necessarily looking for a full refund or even any refund. Had they offered a credit towards a charter at a later date, that would have been fine and actually would have profited them more. Coming back later would have had me bringing more family on the boat with me and paying for more tickets. Instead, they collected money for a service that wasn't provided for a medical reason and *at least nicely* said they wouldn't offer anything in return. Don't recommend, won't be back. There are numerous halibut charters that put customers on fish easily as well as Bob's. read more

We had such a good time! We had never fished in big waters before and it was a great introduction, so much fun. My husband and I both pulled in cod before we had our halibut limit. Captain Pete and deckhands, Sela and Brandon, were awesome. (I brought a banana I had to leave on the dock, who knew?). There were processors on the dock when we got back, as was my banana, but we took our fish to people closer to where we were staying. Everyone was so friendly and kind. We have nothing to compare our adventure to but we will more than likely book with Bob's again because it was such a great trip. read more

We spend a fun day on their boat with Mitch and Willie and had a great time!!! We loved how Mitch communicated with other boats to find fish. Even though the weather wasn't great and it was the end of the season- we still got a bunch of fish and had fun!!! Highly recommend!! read more

Second time with Bob's Trophy Charters and limited out again. Went out on the Sea Predator the first day and the Daze Off the second and third. Got weathered out on the second (bad seas) and got my refund with no issues. Third day out Capt. Mitch took us out for Silvers and we got the boat limit in 2 to 3 hours. My son had a great time both days, Capt. Mitch even had him gaffing Silvers by the end of the day. read more

We showed up the morning of the charter, and they told us that the boat we reserved was down for maintenance. We said ok and went to the other boat they said they moved us to. We got to that boat and saw that we are suppose to be on getting loaded. So we talked to the captain of the boat we were supposed to be on and they said they are working great and going out that day. They worked extremely hard under the most trying wind and tide conditions. If planning a trip i would choose a day with moderate tide shift and high tide during the middle of your trip. Take wind conditions into consideration if your on a extended stay in the Homer area. read more

Naughty Lady was a great boat! Couldn't have had a better day!!! The entire crew was amazing. Captain John kept us out until everyone caught a fish. Stormy, John, and Kyle worked their butts off (including reeling our fish in for us when our arms were tired) and didn't sit down once...at one point we were even fishing while surrounded by humpback whales. I'm not a fisherman and was apprehensive about a day of halibut fishing, but this was an unexpected highlight of the trip. Truly can't speak highly enough of Stormy and Captain John. And you should see them flay your fish!!! I think Captain John would have kept us out all night until everyone was happy and had caught fish. read more

Be forewarned, know exactly what you are getting from Bobs Trophy Charter. We reserved a long haul charter for six people a year ago for the big halibut. Upon arriving we were told we wouldn't be going to where the big halibut where, we were going to try a new place the captain had never gone before. On a 10 hour boat ride, we had our poles in the water less then 2 hours the entire day. We were fishing for halibut in 59-79 feet of water. When we got to two hundred feet depths, the captain decided to move again for another long boat ride to again shallower water. By late in the day, he stopped at the clean up hole, where we got very small baby halibut. When we talked to the office about how disappointed we were with the day, fishing less then a sum total of 2 hours in a ten hour day, to make matters worst the captain called my wife an old lady and referred to my buddy as disabled. Not the memorable day we had planned. It was a very expensive boat ride on a sunny day! read more

Went out today for a half day charter and really had a hard time. The crew was abrasive and they took us way too far out (2.5hrs one way!) where the water was so choppy almost everyone on our boat got violently sick. Everyone on the boat did end up getting their limit, but literally everyone looked green around the gills. The deck hands weren't super coordinated, and would repeatedly come by and contradict each other's instructions. All in all would not recommend unless you know your captain plans to stay within the bay. read more

I called the day before we were to be in Homer in hopes of finding an available spot for one person. They found me a spot and set me up on short notice. I arrived and checked in at noon as I was told to do in order to start the charter at 1. The only thing I wasn't told is that there was no good or drinks on the boat for the 5-6 hour trip, not even water. Once I realized this it was too late to grab anything (no fast food on the spit) and as I missed lunch, it made for a long journey. The trip was fun and everyone caught their limit. The deckhands work very hard the entire time and the rest of the staff was very friendly. Would recommend bringing your own food and drinks but would also recommend Bob's. read more

I have really mixed feelings about our trip on Bob's. The deckhands were great and fun to work with, they really busted their butts to help everyone. The boat had 17 or 18 people fishing and it was just to crowded. To much chaos to enjoy the fishing. We did catch our limit of two halibut on the half day trip and I was really glad that we didn't book a full day. I cant say that I would recommend this charter, sorry. read more

This is the worst fucking charter place I've ever been to. They booked us on the wrong boat and tried to argue with us about scheduling us. We were kicked off our boat cause there were too many people. They screwed up our whole family trip and tried to not refund us. We called the morning of to double check our boat and still told us the wrong boat. If you want to have a good time and actually get on the water do everything you can to avoid this terrible charter. The owner also has terrible customer service doesn't communicate well and his staff obviously needs to communicate better and not double book parties after giving them paperwork telling them when and where to be when it's actually wrong. read more

I have used Bob's Trophy Charters for several years. Weather it was a Halibut trip on the Nauti Lady or a combo on the Tuff Stuff, I have always been treated with respect and kindness. The captains, deck hands and office staff seem to have one goal, and that is for their clients to have a great experience. I am in Homer now, headed home tomorrow, and my experiences this trip have been consistent with the past. They care about their customers, and the fishing has always been great. read more

I used Bob's last year and had a great experience however this time was quite different. The ride out on our half day charter was over 2 hours one way which in turn had the deck crew rushing us to fish as fast as we could while most of us were sick due to the rough swells. Although I know they can't control the environment it would have been more beneficial to not travel so far out into the choppy seas and to allow us to take our time at fishing rather than feeling pressed for time. I even noticed some subpar reviews the night before charter and called ahead to ensure that we were going to have the same experience and was assured that this would not be the case. The crew seemed a bit unexperienced and overwhelmed themselves to the point where the directions that were being given were very confusing to passengers. I'll be sure to book with a different charter next season which is unfortunate because my first experience was pretty great. read more

The boat's crew was great, knowledgeable and helpful. The girls filet like ninjas and everyone on the boat caught their limit of halibut. The only reason I rated a four instead of five is because when we went into Bob's to check-in and get our fishing license, the lady at the front desk has a bad attitude. She was extremely short with us and was snapping at another man that works there. They must have been married or something. It was very awkward to see her bickering with him. Especially when she turned to us with it. She made us feel like we were annoying her by being there. Either way, it did not ruin our trip. Just put a bad taste in our mouth at first. read more

I will not book with this charter again!! This year I have taken 5 different charters for Halibut and Lingcod. I have done this in order to find out which ones do a great job and which ones do a lousy job. I booked this charter in March. I did so based on the information and profiles of boats and captains as given on their website. Great website, great profiles! However, as one person said in their review, they need to take the word "Trophy" out of their name. I was not impressed from the very beginning. When we walked into their office, there was a gentleman who asked, what looked like the manager (perhaps Bob himself), if he could use the restroom. He was asked, "Are you one of my customers?" The man replied that he was and was given the direction to the restroom followed by the comment, "Otherwise the public restroom is down the street". Did the last comment really have to be added? We went ahead and checked in and paid our balance. There was some discussion about whether the boat that we had booked was running. By the way, this is the MOST EXPENSIVE (about $410) charter that I have come across. We made our way to the boat and the captain and deck hand introduced themselves. When the captain introduced himself, it was a different name than what was given as the captain in their profile. Come to find out, it was the first day that the boat was back in the water after receiving a new engine. The captain was nice and a great guy but he volunteered that he had never fished Lingcod before. We traveled out for about an hour and a half before experiencing water pouring into the bilge. We returned to Seldovia. The boat could not be fixed and we would need to return to Homer on one engine. This took about 2 1/2 hours. We did not get to fish at all that day. We were offered a Halibut/Salmon combo to replace our Lingcod trip. All 6 passengers declined. A couple had booked in December. We were given complete refunds minus the $20 that we paid for our Derby tickets. I can't say bad things about the captain and deckhand - they did their best. They were victims of Bob's also. I understand mechanical problems. I think this one was avoidable. It seems the boat had not been tested and I feel we should have been told that their was a change of captain. I thought I was paying for experience. Evidently they are just out to take peoples money. I learned my lesson - the name "Does not Say it All". I would recommend North Country Charters. However, book well in advance - they are busy and work hard so you can get your fish!! read more

My teenage son and I (his dad) went out and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The captain was excellent and a joyful guy. The deck hands were working hard to help eveyone. The boat only holds 17 guests and the captain and deck hands managed everything very well. The whole boat caught the limit of Halibut. I took my two of the six that I caught. I loved seeing my son catch 4 or 5. We catch a release the ones that we don't want to keep. The crew were very good at trying for the big ones and throwing back the not so big ones. I highly recommend this outfit and will use them again if I return to Homer. read more

This was amazing!!! Captain John did not leave the water until everyone had reached the allotted fish count. His goal is to make sure everyone leaves happy, with fish in hand. Additionally, the crew was phenomenal! Stormi was the best deckhand- happy, funny and just a true joy to be around!!! Kyle was great as well! I wish we would have bought the all day tour just so we could hang out with these amazing fishermen!!!! You need to take this tour, it is the BEST in Homer!!!! read more

Loved these guys. Captain Jack was awesome. He got us on the Halibut and we got limit and had a great time. Once we were done fishing, he spent the rest of the time giving us the best whale watching and nature guidance tour I have ever seen. We saw sharks, whales, sea otters, amazing mountain venues and more. He helped us get better with our equipment and he and his crew were really fun and supportive. The boat was not overcrowded, and friendships were made that day. His crew taught us all the finer details of filleting Halibut, which was free, and made sure to save us the cheek meat. This was a first class trip, the best time Me and my 14 year old son had in Alaska, with some awesome Alaskans! This was the real deal. read more

I have chartered with Capt. Josh of Bob's Trophy Charters twice. The first time was in December for Winter Kings... even though everyone told me I was crazy for going in winter, we ended up killing a ton of salmon and got some halibut! When my parents come up in April '09 (my step-dad being a fishing aficionado and a boat captain for over 40 years in So. Cal) people told him was told he was crazy for going fishing in April in AK... and he would have been crazy, had he not gone with Josh. We went out and ended up killing the Halibut - and we were the only charter that did. Once we limited out, we didn't head in, Josh took us over to jig for some rock fish just for fun. My step-dad was impressed how hard Josh worked to get fish from soaking the bait for the chum bag for two days in his, "special sauce" to taking us to get the rock fish just for fun when he could have just taken us back to the harbor. He does a really good job filleting and is just all around fun to hang out with. When I go back to Homer to fish, I know who I'll be calling. read more

2 of my buddy's and I stayed at bob's, it's not the Hilton, just a fishing shack, just fine. fished 4 days limited every day plus crews limit what a blast. the crews where great (mike and avery on katchamak king, and cory and jules on the tuff stuf.) very knoligable and fun.hope they are still the same crews in 2 years, we'll be coming back for more. thanks for the expirence. read more

Bob's Trophy Charters would get -5 stars if negative numbers were an option, thier boat lost an engine, if my boyfriend and another customer had not woke up, it is possible they and the other customers would have been overcome with smoke inhalation, 2 of the other passengers were children who did become sick and the crew played it off as motion sickness but who really knows. I know that it was nice of my boyfriend and the other person who woke up to get everyone awake and out of danger even the deck hand who showed up to work extermely hung over, a person would not be a liar to assume she was possibly passed out, when they were trying to wake her. After getting the captains attention, even he was unsure what to do. My boyfriend suggested he shut off the motor. The chartered trip continued, I don't know why. I guess cause the deck hand was all that just ask her, K T will tell you how good she is, as she struggles to be of assistance to anyone. She smelled like she had went swimming in a vat at a brewery, every breath she exhaled was uncomfortably strong. The extra money paid to go for lincod was a total waste, even though one lincod was caught, the gear was not set for lincod fishing, there were not enough poles for everyone to fish, and you were lucky if you got 20 minutes of lincod fishing time. I have never heard of such a thing as pay your money and we will give you hopefully 20 minuets of fishing. I've read good things about a captain MIke, but this Mike is not a good captain. Since the boat could not make it from point A to point B in a good time frame to do The type of fishing that was paid for, the trip should have been reschedualed, or they could have got a different boat, or perhaps to give the customers back some of the money they paid for the lincod part of the trip would have been more appropriate, and then to constantly ask for tips is so not classy. All the customers of this charter deserve an apology and refund or a free trip. read more
