I was lucky enough to get a spot on the Current Lady with short notice booking. Iwas also lucky to have the Owners of the vessel and theyre friends on board fishing, a nice young newly engaged couple from Raleigh, and Fred, a avent angler from Nashville. Captain Dave and First Mate Shannon took us 60 miles out of Katchimak Bay along the coastline of the Kenai Penensular to the most beautif spots you can imagine and all eight of us caught our limit of hibut, sLmon, and rockfish. The wearher and water conditions were superb. Coming back in, Captain Dave demenstrated the Current Lady's gyro stabilixation system. Very impressive. But what impressed me the most was First Mate Shannon and her professionalism and experience and her great attitude. The is one hard working lady who knows her business! Capatian Dave was great as well. I thorougly enjoyed meeting everyone on the boat that day and consider the whole experience a blessing. Upon return to Bomer Harbor, I immediately booked two spots on the Current Lady for the same week next year and have invited my first cousin. Cant wait! This was my second phenomenal year with DeepStrike. While COVID messed with the travel requirements to get to AK , it was well worth the effort. Last year the Current Lady's Seakeeper kept us stable and fishing in 10-12' seas, with full limits of great fish. This year we enjoyed calmer weather and fished the Gulf of AK each day. David and skilled deckhand Shannon got us on the fish both days, halibut, salmon, rockfish and even the lingcod I'd been wanting. Now when we were planning the trip and learned more than two limits were allowable (thanks, COVID - an upside!), my wife said "why not fish a third day - but on the Irish Mist? Those ladies look like fun!" Well, she was right of course, but what really counted was that Chelsea new her boat, the tides, & where the fish would be. Emily gave the best explanations, was always on top of the action, and made sure the fish got in the boat. If I can get back next year, I'll split time on each, because I can't choose a favorite! read more

Absolutely wonderful! Chelsea and Emily run the Irish Mist with skill, energy and joy! This was my second summer to fish with them and the results were excellent again - my son caught a 100 lb halibut and his girlfriend caught a 50 lb halibut (and everyone else caught halibut), then the best friend caught a 20+ lb king salmon and his girlfriend added a 15+ lb king... Throw in Chelsea stopping the boat for the spectacular humpback show (multiple breaches) and then the pod of orcas cruising by the boat and you have a great day! Chelsea seems to be in 3 places at the same time (driving the boat, pulling in fish and getting lines out) while Emily keeps everyone on the fish (watching that petite young lady pull in a big halibut is a treat). I have been fishing with Captain David Bayes for about 8 years and I am booked again for next year. He offers the perfect combination of talent and experience to catch exceptional quality fish and the good judgement to change plans when the weather creates unsafe conditions. His tackle is high quality and well maintained to facilitate success. He has a great sense of humor and although I like to bring home quality fish, it is the overall experience and a fun day on the ocean that has earned my repeat business. I like to bring my own light weight jigging rod to fish for halibut and other species. We fished the Irish mist with captain Chelsea and mate Emily and let me tell you they were spot on with everything. We went out on the Irish Mist with Captain Kyle on the halibut/rockfish charter. The halibut bite was off the charts. We caught big, healthy fish all morning. We even caught some on jigs, which is tons of fun. The Irish Mist is very comfortable to fish from. Jacob and Kyle were great. We had a young kid on board and they made sure he was having fun and catching fish. The rock fish weren't biting very much. By mid afternoon we were all too tired to want to stay out any longer so we asked to call it a day. We were back in the harbor and posing for pictures. The fish cleaners were great too. Went on the Irish Mist on 7/15/21 with Chelsea as the captan. She and her deckhand did a fantastic job! Their knowledge and experience was clear, these two are the experts we were hoping for when we booked our trip! Everyone limited out on halibut, caught a ton of cod, and even a couple of Salmon were landed. Many times during the trip we had two or three people with fish on at the same time, and a few times, two fish on the same line! The boat has lots of room and is well equipped with gear. They did a great job of putting us on the fish and keeping steady action all day. We caught too many fish to count and kept our limits of perfectly sized halibut for the dinner table. We had a fishing trip of a lifetime with smooth sailing Capt. Chelsea and top notch deckhand Emily! The four of us (two teenage boys and two moms) hauled in halibut, king & pink salmon and rockfish. One halibut was 66.5 inches and weighed 157 lbs. With the entire catch we have over 141 pounds of filleted fish coming home. This was a day we will never forget thanks to the excellent service of our crew on the Irish Mist. Both Chelsea and Emily were clear masters at sea and highly experienced in fishing. They elicited very clear communication and were swift, kind, and helpful all with a smile. The fish processing was seamless when we returned. This was an incredible experience that they tailored to our group really well. We were on The Irish Mist and Chelsea and Emily did a fantastic job. We were catching Halibut before they could even finish their instructions. At the end of the day we were able to ship back 32lbs of halibut, cod and rockfish (unfortunately no salmon for us, but others on the boat caught some). Super professional, knowledgeable, and willing to teach beginners on what they needed to do. My wife had never fished from a charter boat before and needed some instruction, these badass ladies had her wanting to come back for another trip. I went on a halibut rock fish combo on 26 Aug aboard the Irish Mist. Captain Chelsea and deck hand Jessie were fantastic. Not only did they put us on the fish, but they were so knowledgeable and friendly that it made the whole trip. Their personalities were so refreshing. I have been on other charters where the captains and mates just treat clients as a burden and are not very affable . These ladies know their stuff and are very fun to fish with. I had the opportunity to go fishing on the Current Lady with captain David Bayes. It was unbelievable in more than one way. Within 5 minutes of fishing my dad and I caught two halibut 60+ pounds. We not only caught our halibut, but a limit of king salmon and rockfish as well! It was only advertised as a two species fishing day... they went well beyond the call of duty to fill all the time we had to have a great experience and catch fish! David is incredible knowledgeable about the industry, local geography and has a passion for the future of the local fishery. All around top notch experience! We booked this trip after talking to a friend I work with. We meet with the captain the morning of our trip. Captain Cory and Jacob are down to earth guys. Captain Cory put us on fish right away. I just couldn't catch them. I don't know if I made the fish gods made or what but Captain Cory told me to be patient after slowing down on my part was finally able to start catching fish my girlfriend on the other really done good. We went out on the Current Lady with capt Cory and 1st mate Alyssa for two days in a row. They were fantastic! We had rough seas but they worked so hard to get us on fish. We caught our limits on halibut, salmon, ling cod and also caught rockfish of several varieties . They were a great team, they were fast and cheerful and so helpful and knowledgeable about fishing. We have been on many charters in Alaska and in the lower 48 and this was by far the best. A clean ship, great fishing gear and such a pleasant and helpful crew. Went on an over night halibut trip with Capt. David and !st mate Jane July 2nd & 3rd. What a fantastic trip. David's effort to make the trip a success far exceeded any expectations. I caught the first king of the day- I'm amazed!! Our party of 4, (along with another family of 4 on the boat) enjoyed a very successful day of fishing in Homer, Ak aboard the Irish Mist with Captain Chelsea and Mate Emily. Both women worked non stop to assist us all in hauling in fish after fish! One was a 157# halibut, plus Kings, pinks, rockfish! I remember both saying in the afternoon, "we've been so busy fishing, we have't had a chance to ask you about yourselves". Bring snacks, drink, and prepare to get ankle deep in Fish Water. Capt Chelsea and pro deckhand Emily served up a fabulous day of fishing this week on the Irish Mist! Everyone got their limit of big plump King Salmon, with 3 of us having fish on at once which made things exciting! The halibut catch were healthy sizes ranging from 25-85 lbs, and we only had to really work to get the last 'under' since we kept hooking 'overs'. (wow, what a terrible problem to have.....) These two know how to put us on fish, and make sure we knew how to bring them in. Everyone had a super time. Highly recommend. read more

I cannot imagine ever going out with another charter outfit. David is wonderful and always sets us on the fish. The rest of course is up to us. His guidance to landing the fish is spot on with humor. We went on a Halibut trip with Captain David Bayes in August. The captain and mate worked to find fish, provided all of the equipment, and the bait needed to catch fish. It took a little time, but everyone on the trip caught their limit of Halibut. I was fortunate to catch an 80 pound Halibut. My family had a great time fishing and working the Captain and mate. I found the boat be of a good size for the six persons fishing, and it was well equipped. I hope to return for a trip next summer. read more
