    Dinner!

Booked a fishing trip on the Irish Mist with my 12 year old son Milo. Wow!! What a great experience from start to finish. Captain Chelsea and Deck Boss Emily were awesome! The ship was super clean, especially the restroom. The cabin was heated and comfortable. We were fortunate to share the trip with a group of friends who had been fishing together for years. It made for a very entertaining trip, with great conversations and stories. We were out for about 10 hours and the time flew by. We hit our limit on halibut and salmon, and Milo almost nabbed an octopus!! To top it all off, we saw humpback whales and an orca pod (one even breached). I highly recommend the Irish Mist. This was far and away the best fishing trip we've taken. Chelsea and Emily were super competent, knowledgeable, and friendly. We will definitely be back!

Just finished two days of fishing with DeepStrike on the Current Lady. Captain David and Deckhand Shannon "the cannon" were knowledgeable, skilled, and hilarious. The seven of us are going home with 500+ lbs of fish for our efforts after hauling in monster (70+ lb) halibut, pink salmon, king salmon, ling cod, pacific cod and other fish kept for bait. So much fun. And the Current Lady is one of the fastest and most confortable fishing boats I've ever been on. Can't wait to come back next year!

When you end up shipping home 40 pounds of halibut and salmon...that sounds like a 5 star day to me! Our group of 8 went on the Irish Mist with Kyle and Cory as the deckhand and captain. Both helped out with the pole set up, bait, and all that. Truly full service. Also, they are both younger (let's say under 40), which matched up great with our group. By the end of the day I just considered them as two extra friends on the trip because they didn't mind our joking around and other shenanigans. We did the halibut / salmon combo tour. In the morning we reached out halibut quota, which is 2 per person. We caught several more halibut, cod, and even a shark, and tossed them all back. For the salmon part, we caught 5 total (limit is one per person). To me, this was not as enjoyable. With the halibut, everyone gets his own rod. With salmon, there are only 4 rods and they are set up in a special way so that you just wait for a bite, and then whoever's closest grabs the rod and tries to reel it in. I guess I would have preferred halibut exclusively, even if you have to throw everything back once the quota is met. As far as I could tell, the charter includes fish cleaning and then filleting. If you need the fish packaged, frozen, shipped etc, DeepStrike doesn't do that directly, but can get you in touch with the companies that do. Keep in mind that process could take a few hours. For example, ours wasn't ready until the next day. Luckily two of the people on the trip stayed the night and picked it up, while the rest of us hightailed it straight back to Anchorage. However, you can make arrangements by phone to have the fish packaged and shipped any where you want. I recommend planning out this part in advance so you'll have a better understanding of the time and expense involved. One last thing...you do need the fishing license. That is no joke. The crew will want to see it before you leave in the morning. Also, they ensure you fill it out correctly as you head back in, and you have to sign your name in their book confirming your results. The crew also said Fish & Game patrols the dock checking licenses; however, we didn't encounter them.

Booked my other half and 12 year old on the Irish Mist 6/20/22 and they had the time of their lives! The captain and crew worked their a$$es off to give everyone on the boat the best experience possible. They left at 6am and didn't get back till 6pm. Almost everyone caught their limit on halibut. They caught and threw back more than they were able to keep on almost everything due to the regs. The crew worked great together and really offered a full service experience. The boat was comfortable and had room for all 8 plus the crew. Super impressed with Captain Chelsea and Jessie! Will book again!!!!!

    A nice mess of fish.

The Grand Aleutian is a big, stable boat and Captain David Bayes is among the best at catching Alaska's King salmon and halibut. He goes the extra mile to put fish in the boat and smiles on the faces of his clients. He's always putting us on good fish, and seems to sniff them out where you would least expect. First class operation!

Our charters catch for the day.

On our way out Captain Will briefed us, I sat up there to ask questions to see how I can up our odds of catching. I really wanted my kids and wife to catch. Will was very confident we will have a great time. Well I'll just put it this way. He went way above and beyond. The first 10 minutes lines were in the water we were already bent. 100lb halibut, yellow eyes, more halibut and even big lingcod are coming in. All fricken day. What a great time. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you Captain Will.

Well, this is kind of a different review I am writing…read more I actually never took a fishing trip out on the waters of Homer, Alaska with this...North Country Halibut Charters. But... I was walking along the boardwalk area of the downtown Homer Spit section and a boat tour cruise had just completed their expedition. Now afterwards, the passengers were getting a firsthand glimpse into watching their freshly caught king salmons being fileted. Little did I know that after you go out on a fishing charter for the day...it's only customary to then return to the pier and clean and filet your catches. Lol, I have zero fishing experience. So...in getting to watch a professional fisherman/woman do all this for their passengers and witnessing it all with my very own eyes was fascinating! I even recorded it live and added it to my YT Channel...for entertainment purposes only, lol. It was a terrific little exposition, in just how easy it was for the girl to cut open the salmon while efficiently demonstrating her knifing skills. And there was a huge crowd standing around and watching her too. I asked the fisherwoman if I could take a few photos and record a little of her precise fileting and she said that would "be okay and it's fine"...pretty normal for what tourists like myself typically like to do when being exposed to such a cool demonstration. In fact, the girl had a tip jar situated right beside the table counter and of course I happily left her $5 for allowing me to watch. I was quite impressed with her experience, comfortabilities and technique handling such large fish! You could just tell this fisherwoman has been out on the high seas plenty of times and appearing so natural at it all. Unfortunately, I never did take a fishing cruise while in Homer, but after enjoying this fileting demonstration, I started thinking that maybe I should consider participating in a charter in my future travels to all these incredible Alaskan seaports...where they're famously known for catching some of the best fish in the world! In the end, I just appreciated how the tour group caught 5 salmon on their adventure and were now going to enjoy a fresh seafood dinner. Also, the fish they caught were king salmon which I believe are the most prestigious type of salmon you can find. This fileting demonstration was such a pleasant surprise as I was leisurely walking the boardwalk area of downtown Homer Spit. I'm glad I got to experience it.

You buy your fishing tags at the office and it lets you catch 2 halibuts and 1 king Salmon. We went out about 25 miles out to do our fishing. The capitan was a great host he lets us drink beers and we all had a great time. Be sure to pack a lunch since all there required is to get ya on the fish. After fishing for 4 hrs we cruised up the inlet to try our luck on salmon. Out of 10 of us on the boat I was the only one to catch a 24lb king salmon. After we got back to the dock they filet the fish for ya. If your looking to ship back your fish they will take care of all shipping for ya. I highly recommend this captain he definitely puts us on lots of halibut. Great times for sure

Old captain that seemed to rub people the wrong way is gone and retired. Fools gold was our ship, and was in fine enough condition, head was clean, plenty of room for the people in and out. We had the pleasure of being with Capitan Dave C. and Deckhand/first mate Ash. The two of them really made the trip incredible. We went with a group size of 7 plus a baby, and they were both insanely accommodating to the little one, let us setup a pack and play in the berth, even checked in on her when we were out fishing and she was sleeping. Tons, and I mean tons, of great conversations, hysterics laughter, and learning a boat load about the area, the fish types, everything under the moon, honestly. Both of them gave clean and consice rules, what to do, where to be in the boat, showed us how to bait, where to land the catch. Very patient folks, and made this excursion top notch. If you want to go halibut fishing, and want to have a good time, go with them. You'd be making a mistake to go with anyone else. Tl;dr: Awesome crew, awesome fish, very nice and would never fish with anyone else given the choice. All limited out, every one of us, with some impressive catches.
