We went wandering around Boerne and always park in the lot next to Botero. We always say, "we should go there." Well, we finally decided to try it out, and we're glad we did! I love the industrial vibe of the place. It was a rainy Saturday and the place wasn't particularly busy, so the service was good! Our server was friendly and knowledgable about the menu, and the food, while small in portion size (they are tapas, after all) was delicious. We started with the tostadas de chorizo and the house sangria. Both were super tasty. Then we ordered the chistorra (Spanish sausage) and pan con tomate, and finally we shared the albondiga...a giant meatball that was perfection. Decided to stop by & have a beer & tapas last Saturday. We were the only ones here until we were almost finished eating. Our friendly young male server suggested a new Portuguese beer that just came out. It comes in a 4-pack, 6.8 oz bottles with convenient pull-tabs & on a bucket of ice. We went for it! Not bitter, light bodied & easy to drink. We savored the ambiance in the outdoor patio as it FINALLY cooled down to the low 70s! We were given water in a carafe and 2 glasses. I'm sensitive to the taste of municipal tap water so I should've asked if it was filtered water? You'll have to ask for ice cubes if you want ice. Our tapas were the scallops ceviche tostadas(2 tortillas holding them) & a flatbread with Serrano jamon, sliced pears, melted brie, onions & drizzled balsamic glaze. Hubs liked it but I thought it was lukewarm & skimpy on the ham. The cheese wasn't gooey & cooled off. Was slightly gamey to me. He loved his scallop ceviche tostada. The restaurant wasn't very occupied but our server said it gets pretty packed in the evening esp. when there's live music. More people came in when we were almost finished eating. Stumbled onto Botera's soft opening for breakfast. The menu wasn't huge, but very unique with a Cuban flare. We ended up making breakfast tapas style. They have a manchego and chorizo omelette and a couple of different Cuban riffs on a skillet. They also have mimosas and their coffee is very respectable. All in all, I would recommend it! read more

It's been a long time since I've taken a moment to write a review, but today is a good one. My daughter and son-in law came for a quick weekend visit and before they left, we went to Botero for lunch. We enjoyed the lavender sangrias which were delicious. Not too strong of an alcohol taste and not too sweet as a lot sangrias can be. The waiter was very friendly and suggested a few of his personal favorites and we all had to agree, he knew what he was talking about. My parents have been coming here for a couple of years and now I finally know what all the fuss is about! First off, the Lavender Sangria was exceptional but be careful, I feel like two of them would've knocked me off my bar stool. The Patatas Bravas and Tostadas de Chorizo were excellent. First time trying it out finally. I live close by. I made a reservation for my friend and I but the reserved table was swished between two couples so we asked to move outside. It was gorgeous outside and the live music was amazing. We had several tapas. We shared an abondiga, empanadas, a tenderloin and ceviche. Unfortunately they had ran out of the lobster. My wife surprised me on our trip to Boerne by bringing me to this small place off of the main drag. Ambiance is of a generic industrial sort with uncomfortable metal chairs and low lighting. Okay, that's the negative. The food here is absolutely divine, and the service is very attentive. Our waiter did a great job of making recommendations and checking on us. We got four tapas dishes: morcilla, buñuelos, bacalao, and the chuleton. All of these dishes were excellently prepared and tasted fantastic. We loved them. We wish to return and try the paella. The grilled octopus was chewier than I expected. The flavor wasn't bad, though a bite or two had a bit of a vinegar hit. There really wasn't much octopus either. Accompanying potatoes were fine. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Botero Tapas + Wine. We had a 12:30 PM reservation for Mother's Day and we were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant. We were lead to our table which had a special Mother's Day menu in place. We immediately ordered the Botero Paella and the Seafood Paella. Both were very good. We decided to go with an array of tapas some of them pictured in this post. My absolute favorite was the cod fritters but they were all very good. This place is pricey but well worth it. The owner made it a point to come to our table to greet us and mention where his family is from (San Sebastian). He also has photos of his family along the wall facing the restroom. We made reservations for a Friday night and were not disappointed by our experience. We were quickly greeted and welcomed in, and either because we made reservations or they had no other reservations at that time they knew exactly who we were and gave us the option of choosing our seats from a couple of locations. We opted to sit outside as it was cooling down and there was a nice breeze and the musician was just welcoming and inviting to the patio. We enjoyed some tapas and we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine while discussed how the week has been and what our plans for the following week were going to be. Of all 3 I loved the tostadas de chorizo though it was a bit salty it was still delicious perhaps having more salsa will help balance the saltiness from the chorizo and the feta cheese. The albondiga has some type of an egg inside it was definitely good. Don't expect big servings coz it's tapas for nothing. It's quite a bit pricey but you're in Boerne so it make sense to have that kind of price. As far as taste goes, it was better than I expected. Will definitely come back to try other stuff. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday after a market days stroll. This quaint little bistro is fabulous! The vibe was chill and stylish. The hubs and I ordered a couple of drinks; estrella galacia lager and traditional red sangria. The drinks were so good and hit the spot. First and foremost we didn't even get to enjoy the dinner because we were immediately exited by the manager who said they don't allow service dogs for our impaired attendee. The owner is extremely defensive and won't even let friendlies on their patio. This is not even on their website. I would respect the "Sorry, we don't allow service dogs or those that have one with a disability" but we didn't even get that acknowledgement. My husband and I ate here for the first time yesterday and had a lovely experience. We were seated immediately when we arrived. This place has a shaded patio and there was live music; a solo guitarist playing soft hits. I hope they can get a flamenco guitarist someday! It took our server a few minutes to greet us, but nothing crazy. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Another server prebussed an empty plate for us and I could see the host and owner/manager checking on guests as well. Overall, we received excellent service. We tried the Lavender Cava sangria and the Rose sangria. Both tasted good, but we preferred the Rose. We ordered 3 tapas: the Empanada trio, the Crab Risotto and the Papas Bravas. Our tapas were perfectly timed. I appreciated that we weren't rushed. The mushroom and beef empanadas were out of this world delicious! The tuna empanada was good as well, just not our style. I especially loved the crab risotto. It wasn't over cooked or pasty. The texture was exactly how a risotto should be. It had a lovely seafood flavor and several large pieces of crab. What a cute place! Set back from the road off Main Street in Boerne, it is a small intimate place totally focused on Spanish food and wine. Their potatoes were amazing no matter what you paired them with. Flatbread pizzas were a little underwhelming. Although they had a pretty extensive Spanish wine list, they were out of several wines they had on their list. The one we really wanted we got across the street, so we got to try it anyway. Wow what an absolutely gem here! The crab risotto was amazing and the most perfect amount t of crab flavor! I could have eaten 12 more bowls but wanted to try some of everything. The sampler platter or assortment was amazing and all the cheese and meets perfection ! But the Mahon cheese is great with especially with the red wine our waitress fabulously suggested!! It was so good we got 2 more platters of just that to enjoy with the wine and take home!! Oh and the lavender sangria you must get!! The empanadas were also absolutely fire. I love that it's three flavors so you can sample different tastes, true Spanish style. But be warned you may want two if sharing so you get more than a bite each cause they are that good. The tostadas are also one of the best on the menu and so so glad we got them even though full. All in all it seems everything on the menu is a must try. Sad we were so full to fable and try the dessert! Now about the staff, which made the total 5+ amazing experience it was!! Gio was our waitress ( can't give enough kudos to her!!!) and man was she absolutely beyond fantastic! She was sooooo knowledgeable about all the products and gave us the absolute best recommendations on food and wine! We thought she had worked there for years and lives in Spain... so shocked to hear she been there 2 days!! She is an absolutely asset to Botero's and will try to get her section if we ever go again. This is by far one of the worst meals I've had in recent years. We got to the restaurant at around 6:20 and they closed at 7pm and we knew it so we planned on leaving on time. We ordered our drinks, water and a lavender sangria and the sangria tasted like pure lavender, nothing else, I expected it to taste like lavender of course but it was a very strong lavender flavor and kind of bitter. Not good. I asked the server about the empanadas and she advised they were mushrooms and cheese flavored. When our empanadas came out they were meat and potatoes, I don't eat meat. My husband had the buñuelos de bacalao and said they tasted frozen and popped in the microwave. We ordered the potatoes, las bravas, flavorless and hard. We replaced the empanadas with setas gallegas which is mushrooms and goat cheese and that was the best dish, it was a pretty big serving and it came with two tiny toasts. I also ordered the tortilla española and it also looked like it was popped in the microwave. Flavorless, the potatoes were huge and hard. Served with 3 bruschettas, the bruschetta was better than the actual tortilla. My husband really enjoyed his chuletón angus, he gave his meal a 6/10 and I gave mine a 5/10. Also when we were ordering we were reminded the kitchen was closing soon and to make our selection quickly. A few minutes before 7 the server came to the table and we asked for the check and she said yes we do close at 7 and we told her we knew and would be leaving before then. I can't really give this place a great review, nor a really bad review. We love traditional Spanish food/tapas. The good.. we enjoyed the gambas, patatas bravas, olives, and pan de tomate. The not so good.. The tortilla was super bland, while the paella was good, it did not have a crispy bottom. Also, I asked for a taste of the sangria to see if it was something we would like before ordering. The waiter said they couldn't provide a taste so, more than likely, they lost a sale. We attempted to order the tarte de queso but he said they were sold out. They make it on Thursdays and if they don't have any left by Saturday, you don't get any. Seems like they should make an extra couple of these cheesecakes so people can enjoy them on Saturday. We then settled for churros which looked nothing like the churros previous posters' photos. They were doughy and sliced into discs. Also they didn't provide any kind of dipping sauce like chocolate or caramel. While it was not an awful meal by any means. I don't know that we will drive an hour from New Braunfels to go back. The live Spanish guitar music was a nice touch. read more

Then we had the langostino, the flavor was all on the sauce, very good, but it was a tiny tiny piece of meat I could barely taste the actual langostino. We finally got our paella, (it takes a little while so you have to order as soon as you get there). It barely had any rice and the rice was not cook as it's supposed to. It was lacking flavor, the staff was nice and friendly, the place is small and cozy, they had ice music so it was nice, I just wouldn't go back for the food, way overpriced for lack of flavor. We had the most amazing time! The minute you walk in you are greeted by many with a friendly smile. You are taken to your table and in our case on this Friday night, our table was on the patio. What a beautiful evening to have been outdoors too. We are told to scan the bar code in order to view the menu. We ordered sangria and we must say the sangria is the best we have ever had! Our server was courteous, polite, friendly and attentive! The food was superb! We had the watermelon salad, ribs, langoustine, and the mouth watering cheesecake for dessert! The cheesecake is fluffy and is made to perfection as it melts in your mouth. If you are blessed to be there when the owner is there and you meet him you will find a very courteous gentleman that speaks to you about his family history and the foods he prepares. This place is a hot mess. The servers are the bussers, host and at times, the bartenders. That does not lead to great service. Never a manager there and if you complain about the food, good luck with that. The server has to call the manager to discuss whether or not they will take the raw food off your bill. The cooks yell in Spanish at the servers and bartenders. If you are bilingual, you'll get an earful. Totally unprofessional. The food is overly salty and overpriced for tapas. They mainly cater to tourists now because locals don't eat here. Been here 3 times and there won't be a 4th time. read more
