What a wonderful place to stop for good food and strong drinks. I came here for an afternoon date with my husband and we had such a wonderful time. We sat outside and enjoyed their beautiful views. We enjoyed drinks, appetizers, and shared a meal. We could not ask for better date out. The staff were very accommodating and we enjoyed it all. I spent an afternoon catching up with a group of friends here. We decided to order a handful of appetizers and share. It was a great idea as the Botanery Barn has some really amazing appetizers! The first standout for me was their Alsacian Flammekueche flatbread which had bacon, onions, and potatoes and a nice sauce. The bacon was thick and smokey which is just how I like it. We ended up getting a second order. The second standout was their Bavarian Pretzel. The pretzel is really good but the onion honey mustard sauce that comes with it is really nice and different than any sauce I've gotten in other restaurants. I really enjoyed it. Their empanadas were also delicious. And their Brussel sprouts with pomegranates and garlic were great! I'm so glad we decided to snack on their appetizers with some drinks. Well, we had been wanting to try this place for some time. I'm happy to say the wait was well worth it. The place is small but very nice inside and out, not so much elegant but chic. It's in an old barn with stone walls and huge overhead beams. The bar seconds as a table to eat and there is a mix of tables throughout two rooms, some high tops and some regular tables. A few very nice slab tables as well. They had a 2-piece duo playing some soft contemporary music so we didn't have to shout to speak to one another which was a bonus. All of the staff we encountered were super friendly and attentive. Our server was a very nice young lady and we also encountered a young man who was the food and drink runner. They seemed to work well together, and we had the opportunity to meet Cheryl who manages the bistro. She obviously is the reason the place is so well run. We had the edamame and as others have noted it is terrific. My wife had the veggie burger which she enjoyed, and I had probably the best burger I've ever had. Hard to imagine raving over a "burger" but somehow they made it to perfection. The wine selection is well - sparse - one white and one red but it is a distillery. The wine pour was generous. I had a flight which included 3 whiskeys and 2 ryes. Just the right volume of each so you could enjoy it. Of the 5 selections I enjoyed 4 of them, the fifth a bit too sweet for me. If you have the chance to visit this establishment, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. read more

Bring a blanket or a jacket just in case the fire pit is not going. Inside there's a bar area, and several tables. It seems to easily get toasty inside, so take that into account if you're being mindful of indoor dining with covid. One unisex bathroom. There may also be other seating available inside but all I saw when I visited was the tables around the bar area. Menu offers many finger foods though I wish they were offered in even numbers rather than off. 5 deviled eggs, three empanadas. If on a date, I prefer even amounts. The food was good, not offensive, and I liked it but didn't love it. I'd order again for sure. Cheese plate had a goat brie (?), manchego (?), and a super tangy bleu & came with crackers and bread plus pepperoni, and other accoutrements. All pretty good except the Bleu cheese. read more

First off this place is super cute. We were visiting Pennsylvania last week and we wanted to try something local to the area. We came upon this place and thought the outside was super cute. Wish I had taken a photo but others have posted pictures of the outside. So everything on the inside was wooden. It was as if we stepped back in time. I loved it. They asked us what we wanted to drink. They didn't have soda so I got a lemonade and my husband got water. We got their edamame for an appetizer they were the best I've ever had. I wish I would have taken a photo but we gobbled them up so quickly. My husband had the bistro burger and he said it was the best he's had and I had the sauerbraten. It looks like they may have used precut sliced meat for it. I would give it a 6 in taste and texture. The potatoes were delicious. If I went back to the area I would go back again and try something different. But next time we may have to order our own edamames. read more

Can I review just the liquor? I've never been to the Brandywine Branch Bistro, but highly interested in checking it out now. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I placed an order for two bottles to be delivered to my home. It was about four hours. Yes, four hours, but it made it to my house. Wow... We're big fans of Revivalist Gin. We first found them at the Total Wine on Naaman's Road in Delaware. I truly think it was the best Gin I've ever had. We've bought all of the seasons and try to use certain ones based on the drink we're trying to make. The subtle differences really come out if you don't do too much to the cocktail. So happy that we can support a local place, not because they are local, but also that they are the best we've had. As customer's of almost over a year, we we keep on coming back. We were hiking at Warwick Park and wanted to grab a bite. I saw this place on Yelp and it was a great find. It was a beautiful day and they sat us quickly at a table outside. Our server came by with a menu of drinks and food. They have delicious crafted cocktails in plastic bags kind of different but with covid seemed safe and disposable. The drinks seem pricey but they are big and so worth it. They had a limited menu but I don't mind that if what they make is good. One of us had the pork chops with apple chutney, carrots and potatoes. Everything was seasoned nicely. My husband had the burger and said it was good. I also think that they need to have mich ultra and other domestic beers on the menu. Your average person is not going to want their only alcoholic beverage choices to be an IPA or gin. One of our favorite places for a romantic time or getting together with a small group. I've seen complaints at the service is slow -what we like best about this is that it is a place to come and relax and have everything made to order for you. We want to like this place, we really do. And we have given it multiple tries... but there are some serious issues with the service. Every time we've been, the service has been slow. It's a small place and we've been happy with the food and drink, so we've generally been willing to overlook the slow service. But at some point, it's annoying and sends a clear message that customers aren't valued. On our last trip, we were seated at the bar; the place wasn't that busy but many of the tables were marked as reserved. We were given some water and menus... and we waited. I asked a server (Ours? No clue since there were no introductions, etc.) about the cocktail specials which she rattled off and left. A half an hour later, no one had taken our drink order. The folks next to us also sat with only water glasses, though at least the server came over to talk to them. The server came back - we thought to take our orders - but instead, she grabbed a tea towel and proceeded to dry several glasses on the bar. A few servers glanced at our menus but didn't stop. We tried to flag someone down (again, they were not particularly busy) but no one paid attention. About forty minutes in, we gave up and left. Not surprisingly, no one ever acknowledged our leaving. For the sake of clarity, there were plenty of servers around on our visit: they just weren't friendly or helpful. Even the server who told us the drink specials (but never came back) didn't offer up a name. I would like to say that this was an off night, but it's not. We've been twice before - again, we really want to like it because it's small and local - but the service is not good, as confirmed by some other reviews. The problem is that we expected the service to improve over several visits, and it has only gotten worse. read more

Really like this place. The menu is small, but it's enough for the size and vibe of the place. The drinks are fun, as they should be, since that's their "thing." Only four stars because the seating is a bit uncomfortable and it's always a little chilly, probably because the floor is concrete and the walls are stone. Some warmth and candles would help. Last night my wife and I went here on a whim and I want to give this place a good review but it's hard. The people are pleasant, the spirits are very good (especially the cask bourbon Manhattan) but they need more training. When you spend top dollar on drinks and food you expect it to be presented with excellence. The bartenders are young, the wait staff are inexperienced and overall it was very Disappointing. We were greeted and explained by a delightful hostess or manager the menu. But under her the staff just had no clue about spirits or any of the menu items and it was very slow. Basically the distillery is the bulk of their business in regards to distributing. The food and tasting room is having trouble taking off. Just go back a year and see the same comments that the owner responded to as "helpful". I hate to sound cheap, but if I am going to spend top dollar on local craft spirits, cheeses and meats.... it better be top notch service. Your staff tried really hard last night. But they need more training. Honestly if the owner is not there you need someone who acts like the owner to make the place shine. On a Saturday night there should be a line to get into his place, Maybe some live music and menu specials that attract a crowd. Best of luck, we will try this place again. A casual, homey bistro nestled in the lower level of a 1700's era barn near the edge of the French Creek Valley. The bar was made from a beautiful live edged piece of wood that overlooks a glassed distilling room. The ancient wood ceiling beams and stone walls make for a very cozy experience. The copper tin is a nice touch on the ceiling. The menu is simple yet satisfying. He ordered a bourbon neat and I had a bourbon vanilla cooler (bartender recommended a splash of raspberry shrub, excellent choice). We ordered a chef's sampling to nibble on while we chatted with the very friendly bartender and ourselves. We must go back on a night with live music. It was a pleasant drive through beautiful back roads to this little gem. We also purchased the "Spring" Gin to bring back home with us. read more

This past weekend the Bistro hosted a private event for my family and friends, 19 total. As a corporate event planner, I could not have been more pleased with the outcome. All through the planning process, Cheryl and Natasha were great to work with. The food was delicious, carefully prepared, beautifully presented (buffet style) yet plentiful for guests to return for more helpings. The bar was well staffed and they offered the nicest seasonal specialty drinks (gin and bourbon). The Bistro was nicely decorated for the Holidays, the wait staff were friendly, attentive and kept the event moving and organized. If you are looking for an intimate, classy event venue that will meet your expectations of perfect, the Bistro is the place. It has that "Chester County" feel to it as well. EXCELLENT hidden gem in the Delaware Valley. First of all, this one one of a very select few of craft distillery that does distilled spirits the right way. Most craft places either charge premium prices for sub-pair products or buy liquor from somewhere else while spinning a yarn about how it's their great great uncle's secret recipe. Brandywine Branch distills quality product and charges a reasonable price. This stuff they do source is excellent, they are up front about it, and they explain why their product is different from others (and you'll taste it, their barrels make a huge difference). Next, the food is excellent. This has to be one of the best places in the area. You don't have to drive to Philly to get a quality culinary experience. The staff was incredible warm and friendly. The setting was cozy and intimate, but still big enough that you don't feel like you're eating in someone's dining room. read more

Incredible dinner and amazing staff! The atmosphere is lovely and cozy. I was blown away by the bolognese with hand-cut pasta. It was the perfect portion--filling but not overwhelming. I had the lavender lemonade cocktail which was light and delicious. Also tried a gin flight, which was a lot of fun. We have been a couple of times to enjoy the well-made, and professionally prepared cocktails. While the gin is the "spotlight" here, the bourbon is equally good...so a manhattan crafted well is a special treat. This is the first time we had dinner there, and we were excited to try the food. So, here is a bit of a review to help the restaurant as well as the customer. Cheese board with our cocktails was terrific...lots of accompaniments to compliment the cheese. BUT...the server should have described each of the cheeses on the plate so we could know what we were enjoying. Our server was so pleasant...really nice. BUT, she needs a little more training to be a great server. She asked if we wanted an olive in our manhattan...and I about fell out of my chair! NEVER an olive in a manhattan! She also did not appear to know what Chèvre was in describing a dish. Just help her out and give her some good training...she'll be great. It was Patty's Day, so the dishes on the menu were Irish. The Irish Stew was very tasty, but the meat needed to be braised longer to make it more tender. Flavors were great. The Mushroom Shepherd's Pie was also quite good...lots of mushroom varieties and good beefy sauce. Desserts were OK...fig and chèvre pastry was the best. All in all...we had a great time and really enjoy this unique place. I'd like to see the team better trained with the menu and cocktail items...it will make this place a terrific place.
