I took my new puppy Mozzie here about a week ago, and I liked the veterinarian and tech I had a lot! My DVM was Dr. Piga and she was fantastic. She answered all my questions and made sure I understood the cost of his preventatives, which I greatly appreciated. I give four stars instead of five because the entrance is not all that welcoming. I do like the modern feel and colors, but I felt a little awkward when I came in and wasn't sure where to sit. The front desk staff said hi, but didn't really engage me. It could have just been an off day. I recommend this vet if you're looking though because it was very clean, and the tech and DVM I had were great!! read more

Took my 7 year old dog here because she was limping. My dog is anxious so I thought a "fear free" vet would be a great idea. She had already been going to Massachusetts animal clinic for years, but I thought I'd try something new because of the "fear free" status. First off my pup was already medicated on anti anxiety meds to go to the visit. Despite that, she was the most anxious I had ever seen her in the 7 years of having her. It's like she picked up on the fear of other dogs. As we get into the visit, the vet asked no questions about how she was injured or what her symptoms were. Just insisted on immediately sedating her and taking X-rays. I expressed I was extremely uncomfortable with this and that my dog has never had to be sedated for X-rays before. The vet basically told me to let them sedate her or go somewhere else. Then she tried to tell me that anywhere else would sedate her too. They also refused to prescribe the anxiety medication my dog had already been using and insisted I tried something else. I explained that I had already tried the meds they were suggesting and they don't help. Again, the vet argued with me and basically didn't care about what I had to say at all. The estimated cost for X-rays and sedation was $3,000. So I took my dog back to Massachusetts animal clinic and the vet there diagnosed her within 5 mins of the visit. No X-rays needed. She had a classic case of a torn ACL that any good vet would be able to diagnose without an X-ray. $90 later I had a diagnosis and new prescription for the anxiety meds my dog usually takes. I wasted my money trying the Boston vet clinic and will never go back. Side note: they try to make you feel like a bad pet parent (even just the lady who does scheduling on the phone tried to guilt trip me because my dog was limping) And in the 45 mins I was there I witnessed 2 dogs leaving after being heavily sedated. They don't do surgery there so why would so many dogs need sedation. I think it's a ploy to charge you thousands of dollars. Horrible place. read more

When I brought my cat for nail trimming and dandruff checking Dr. Bloom suggested I do bloodwork which cost me $400. I was subsequently advised that my cat had a severe heart condition and needed a cat cardiologist to treat her although there were no visible symptoms. This afternoon, a week later, the vet called me to say my cat may not live another week in her critical condition. I asked for an estimate to euthanize the cat and the vet sent me the following email, retracting the statement that my dat would die unless I followed their protocol: "Please find the attached treatment plan for your reference. I wanted to reiterate that I do not think it is appropriate to euthanize Penny at this time as she is not experiencing clinical signs of heart disease. I would be uncomfortable proceeding with euthanasia at this point. A good option is monitoring her sleeping respiratory rates at home. You can monitor her sleeping respiratory rates by counting her breaths while she is sleeping for 15 seconds, then multiplying the number you get by 4. This value should be under 40 breaths per minute, if it is at or above 40 we can discuss next steps, however if she continues to have normal respiratory rates I would continue monitoring her. I would also try looking into financial assistance, or consider rehoming her with the intent of the new owner being aware of the condition and consenting to pursuing diagnostics." This place is shameful; I almost euthanized my cat because they wanted the money to treat symptoms that were clearly exaggerated, if not fictionalized. read more

I genuinely could not recommend this vet any less. They are kind in person, but all they care about is extracting as much money as possible from you. I came to this vet with my dog Lacey, who was 14 years old at the time, after I had moved to Boston for Law School. I really liked the vet, so I kept going. After a few months of us being in Boston, they diagnosed her with kidney disease and eventually diagnosed her with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. They placed her on prescription food, but when Lacey eventually started to reject this food, the only alternative they provided was a food that cost about $100 for a two-week supply. They kept insisting that I get my prescriptions through their online pharmacy, which upsold every product (I was able to find them cheaper elsewhere online, like on Chewy, but it was difficult for me to get them to send a physical prescription so I could obtain them anywhere other than THEIR pharmacy). We kept going back when I could afford to do tests, and at one visit, I made a comment to a vet tech about how we have not been able to come in very often or follow all of the medications because of how extremely expensive everything is. The vet tech was very sympathetic, especially because Lacey was really sick, so she told us to wait a second and then came back with information about a "Complete Care Plan." I should have known it was too good to be true, but I truly trusted this vet because I had gone to them for a while and they were always very nice, although I should not have. They sold the plan to me as a cost-saving measure, where I would pay $60 a month, and this would cover one vet visit a month in addition to some other things. I thought this was a great deal because I was already going to the vet for an appointment with the vet techs at least once a month for Lacey's Librela shot (for arthritis). With this plan, I was able to get an appointment with the vet instead, who was able to give me more information on the status of Lacey's kidney disease and continually evaluate her cognitive decline. Lacey's condition only got worse and worse, to the point that she was unable to control her bladder and her bowel movements. She would often forget who my roommates were, even though she had known them for a while, and would lash out violently. There were multiple instances where she lashed out and bit me, and as she started to forget who even I am, it became really difficult for me to uphold a good quality of life for her. We discussed this with the vet (who was extremely uncomfortable about the subject and would not even look me in the eye), and they basically just handed me a business card for a 3rd party euthanasia service. After doing some research, calling around to some places, and taking Lacey to all of her favorite spots, I eventually made the decision with my family that it was time. I informed the vet that Lacey had passed away, and her remains were hand-delivered to the vet's office for me to pick up, so they were very aware of what was going on. The vet's office seemed to be very kind at first, and they sent me a nice card with the signatures of a bunch of staff. But after Lacey died, they continued to bill me monthly for her Complete Care Plan. I was really confused about this because I am very on top of budgeting (living on student loans, I have to be), and I paid the invoice in full every time I visited. It has been over 2 months, and they still continue to bill me for this plan. When I asked them about this, they informed me that the Complete Care Plan is for a period of 12 months, so I am obligated to pay for those months even if my dog has passed. When I tried to explain to them that my dog is dead and therefore no longer receiving services, they insinuated that I was trying to "cheap out" of paying my bill, and they continuously repeated how I have to "pay for the services I have received," even though I paid my invoice religiously every visit. Staff were incredibly rude, called me "emotional," said I "don't know how companies work," and completely refused to help. I asked if I could transfer the plan to another dog (one who is alive since my girlfriend recently adopted a dog), and they refused since "the plan is attached to the dog." I honestly cannot say enough about how wonderful my experiences with BVC have been. My now 9 month old puppy has been seeing Dr. Joey since his first visit (just about)! Obviously during COVID, things are handled much differently, so I hand off Javier to the staff outside of the vet clinic. Within a few minutes, the veterinarian will call me on the phone and sort of walk me through results of exams! They are very informative and have helped me to feel totally safe and comfortable in trusting them with my puppy. I will say, their prices are somewhat steep. At the same time, however, I will pay them pretty much anything because I have such faith in their abilities! Javier absolutely loves them and always walks in with the technician, tail wagging. Couple of decent vets but staff specially the office manager Kim and receptionists are awful, incompetent and sheer liars. I had to take my pooch for a quick visit as he had a pretty bad open cut by his neck and I just wanted to make sure it would not get infected. Despite having an appointment available at one of their locations, the office manager advised the receptionist to not let me take it because she was adamant my dog had to take two tranquilizers before coming in. I tried to clarify that the reason for that in that past was due to just anxiety right after his rescue and he has been fine for past year or so not needing it ( and doctor G knew it) and it is really important for me to bring him in today for his open wound. But they refused to listen and kept saying that is violation of some policy without explaining what policy. After several times of asking and asking I got extremely frustrated, and I told the receptionist that I no longer wish to speak to her and let me talk to her supervisor or manager. After putting me on hold for a while Kim was put on and she was even worse. These people have zero clue about customer service or really caring for the animals. They were on autopilot unable to think out of box refused to leverage a vets expertise ( I asked several times to please check with any vet on call or have them call me) and basically lied to me saying " I have told the receptionist to shut up". Frankly I have seen all kinds of bad customer service but to lie to this extent is just unbelievable. So unprofessional. After me persisting to speak to their other office , they said that they have moved me to a no see list and blocked me from coming to the vet clinic anymore. I had seen everything and anything in my life but to be put on a " banned " list for a vet clinic I have been going to for a while because I was concerned about my pooch and needed desperately to be seen by one of the vets. We had been going to this clinic for years and never impressed with front people even though the technicians and vets were fine and nice but front staff and this new manager I suppose are pure incompetent , with no sense of how to work with their clients or care for the animals. It was a cruel situation knowing they have an appointment my pooch needing to be seen yet they deliberately refused to see me bc of the meds and at the end lying and then blocking me for good. This is insane !!!. Even though as an owner I kept telling them he has not needed this for past year or so and plz just check with the vet. Their two other offices in bay village and seaport are actually fine. Their staff are wonderful. The office manager in sea port actually was really helpful and professional and was the first person who actually explained to me their policies and was very reasonable and gave me options such as tele health or picking up an antibiotic ointment at the clinic. What a competent client service person would do. Manage expectations with a solution oriented approach and provide options to patients in need. I wish they had provided a better training to their staff or better yet hired more competent and pleasant staff especially office manager. I can not explain how awful this experience was and what a stressful evening I had for no reason. It could have all been avoided if these idiots had common sense and would handle the situation like the office manager in sea port. I asked for their management contact to file a complaint. And they refused to do so and said they will give my contact to them to call me. Guess what ? No one ever did. I gave it two weeks but no one ever called me. So I felt responsible to put this on yelp to ensure others know what happened to me and how nasty these guys can be. They were really cruel, dishonest, and unprofessional - all as a result of the incompetence of their staff and office manager, poor client service and no common sense. I really hope no one else goes through such experience. I am sure I will find a better vet clinic and frankly only reasons I was going there for out of sheer convenience in our neighborhood. ** EDIT ON 6/5/2019 ** Not more than 4 hours after I posted this review, Dr. B contacted me to learn more about my situation. He was so compassionate and understanding about the situation and explained why there was such a miscommunication with the daycare facility. I was completely won over by his candidness and I will definitely continue to use their services. In light of the prescription issue, he was kind enough to offer a free 6 month supply for Bailey's flea & tick preventive and a free sample of a different heart worm medication (with some great insight about different types of meds). Additionally, when I arrived to pick up the medication, the person at the front desk, Tianna, was SO kind and professional. She answered all my questions and even gave me a free sample dental kit after I explained that Bailey thought it was a toy and chewed it up. All in all, a big THANK YOU to Dr. B and Tianna for being so responsive to my concerns and helping me come to a resolution. Bailey and I will definitely be loyal patients from now on! ************* If you would have asked me a month ago, I would have rated it 4 stars. Unfortunately, due to the lack of coordination at this location with the daycare/ grooming center they share a space with, it's been an absolute nightmare. It's absolutely aggravating that after coordinating via email with the clinic that I would be picking-up/ dropping-off something for my dog, the front desk is too incompetent to follow through. The first instance I was told I needed to drop off a fecal sample and could have left it with the front desk. After driving home for 20 mins, calling to confirm that I could drop it off the same day, getting the sample, driving BACK 20 mins to the clinic, the front desk informed me I could not leave it with them. As this was the first time, I was annoyed but understood that miscommunications can happen. The second instance was the last straw. I have been trying to get the heartgard and nexgard prescriptions for my dog and was informed I needed to pick them up as they couldn't be emailed. As I work in Westborough, which is an hour away, I explained that I wouldn't be able to make it by 4pm (the clinic closing time), but, if possible, I could pick it up with the front desk that is open until 7pm. They said that was fine. Due to rush hour, I arrived at 6:15pm only to find the doors locked. I was absolutely infuriated as not only did I have to combat rush hour to get into the city, I paid parking AND wasted 1 hr and 30 mins of my day trying to get these prescriptions. After calling the Tremont location, I was informed they would mail the prescriptions to me. After these 2 negative experiences, topped with the mechanical response of "Sorry that happened. Hope you'll still come back" when we called to complain, I don't think I'll be returning. There was no compassion for the time wasted nor an explanation or even a small gesture like "Really apologize for that - happy to offer your pup a small bag of treats as an apology for the inconvenience." TL;DR: Way overcharged for a simple medication I have been taking my dog to this vet clinic for nearly a year and we've had nothing but positive experiences, but I'm extremely disappointed by my last visit. Recently I took my dog in for a follow-up appointment to get a check-up as well as pick up more prescription food and some medication. While I was checking out over the phone, I was asked if I wanted to pick up his pills right there at the clinic or at CVS. Since I was already carrying his food and some other things I decided to just get them directly from the clinic. I paid the bill (which seemed pretty high but I know his prescription food is expensive) and then left with his supplies. When I got home, I took a closer look at the invoice and saw that his pills cost $122. Whenever I got them from CVS previously, they were only $12 for 60 pills. This dose was triple the amount, but even by that math it should have been around $40. I understand that medicine is usually marked up by the vet, but a 200% increase is completely outrageous. But more importantly, I wasn't given any warning that there would be a price difference. I was simply asked if I wanted to pick them up from the clinic or at CVS and I (foolishly) said yes without thinking much else. Later we called to ask about the price of the pills and we were basically told there was nothing they could do about it. I honestly feel like we were tricked out of a large sum of money. When we first started using the medicine last year we were advised to look for deals online to save money--a gesture we really appreciated. This is a complete 180 of that type of customer service, though, and feels like a betrayal of our trust. We've had such a great experience at this clinic otherwise, but I'm hesitant to continue going if we can be charged such a needlessly high amount so carelessly. read more

This is my first yelp review of anything, but had to say how pleased I am. Cody is my first dog--and got him in March. So when looking for a vet i went off recommendations and so glad I got to BVC. Dr. Joey just fell in my lap and from the first phone call I knew Cody's health was in great hands. I have never been inside because of COVID but Cody has been there for 1st exam, neutering, yearly check-up. I have been to Angell for emergency visits as we discovered Cody has seizures. Dr. Joey is remarkable in her follow up and her partnering with the emergency room vets. When Dr. Joey called this morning to see how Cody was doing he could hear her voice on the other end and ran up and starting wagging his tail. Great service! read more

The clinic makes a point of creating a fear-free environment for all animals. From my experience, it's true that they do everything to create a non stressful experience. My dog is always happy to meet doctors and team members at the Brookline location, wagging is tail as we approach the entry door. I would highly recommend their services for all pet owners. read more

So, it has taken me a few weeks to really process our two experiences with this place (Brookline Location). I'm now ready to share it because I firmly believe that medium to large size dog owners should steer clear of this place. We were/are really disappointed in our vet and the vet tech. They created the most fearful atmosphere for our dog Monte and the care was abysmal. The first visit was a quick vaccination and quick check up. Monte (a 2 yo, 70lb black lab mix) is a rescue and a sweetheart but had just undergone a big transition a slightly growled at the vet after a vaccination. For the following visit, they asked us to drug our dog before bringing him in. We reluctantly did, given that he did growl a bit. Upon arrival at the second visit, they also insisted on a muzzle Which really seemed like overkill. But the worst part was that they totally botched putting the muzzle on. The first was the wrong size and they couldn't figure out the straps on the second muzzle. It was amateur hour. Of course Monte, our dog, was reactive after all that! Fear free?! Yeah right! After all that... they couldn't take his blood even though my partner and I had him securely in our arms. For SEVERAL seconds. After getting my dog very worked up, they then ask if we want to try an $80 sedative gel on his gums... which come to find out wouldn't have even taken effect until an hour after our appointment. We said no! I know other vets don't even make owners get involved with these procedures. But my partner and I did all the work while they fumbled. The vet wouldn't even feed Monte a treat after this horror show. She just stood at the door and tossed it at him from afar. Obviously petrified. Our dog doesn't love going to the vet, but isn't a terror either. They did not charge us for the visit, so at least they acknowledged that it was an awful visit on their end. They also overcharged me for medication by A LOT. But did credit my account once they found the error. Lastly... never put a vets office in a basement. That alone is fear inducing. And for new dog owners like my partner and myself.... it feels good to have a vet who is confident, gives behavioral suggestions, who shows experience. And that was not what we got. She just threw more trazadone and gabapentin our way for future visits. How awful!! It also smells like urine and some sweet chemical down there in that basement. There's also a doggie daycare that makes the waiting area very hectic and not great for new dogs. Needless to say we will never go back. read more

UPDATE / EDIT: After posting my review last week, the practice manager and co-founder reached out to me to apologize. We had a lengthy phone call where he admitted the practice does not have much experience with medical alert dogs and he needs to make sure they are better suited to handle these situations moving forward. He asked many questions and was genuinely interested in learning more on the topic so that he can educate his staff on the matter. He did not ask me to remove or edit my yelp review, which I appreciated -- I wanted to do it because I appreciated that he took my review seriously and reached out. While this currently may not be the best vet option for folks with service dogs, please don't let me experience deter you if you have a normal dog. This is my first yelp review and will probably be my last, but I felt inclined to share my experience at the Boston Veterinary Clinic in Brookline yesterday. As the owner of a Medic Alert Service Dog, I am stopped regularly by the public and asked if my dog can be pet or given treats. I always politely say no, and explain why she can not be distracted from her work or rewarded with a treat by anyone other than myself: her handler. The public is surprisingly very understanding about it and listens to my requests. Never in a million years did I expect to walk into the Veterinary Clinic yesterday and have the complete opposite experience. Not only did the technician and doctor not listen to me, but they also completely disrespected me as her owner / handler. I expected the Vet, of all places, to be a safe space for us, where there was mutual understanding around the importance of service dogs and why they need to be treated differently than regular dogs. That was not the case here. After first walking in and getting my dog weighed, I informed the technician that she is a Medic Alert Service Dog for my Type 1 Diabetes and can only be rewarded with a treat when she medically alerts, and that the treat needs to come from me. I asked her to refrain from giving her the treat she had in her hand that she was planning to give my dog after she was finished weighing her. Her response, "Well, we give treats throughout the visits here, so we will try to keep it at a minimum." Baffled by this response, we walked into the exam room where a few treats were given while we waited for the Veterinarian. When the Veterinarian walked in -- treat in hand -- I repeated what I had told the technician. I stated that she is a service dog and can only be given treats by me when she alerts. Her response, "We are a pet friendly vet with a fear free style, so we give treats to make sure the dogs are happy to be here and excited to come back." Meanwhile, my dog is sitting calmly with her tail wagging, being the trained service dog that she is, when I said, "I think her behavior right now is indicative that she IS happy, so that should not be a concern." Her response, as she redirects her eye contact from me to the dog and switches to a baby voice, "Well these are small treats and you'll know the vet is the only place you get them." Over the course of the 30 minute appointment, where nothing invasive was done, my dog was given an entire dental bone and 10-15 small treats. Not only did both the technician and vet send a loud and clear message of "screw your requests, we do not care", but also my dog was so distracted by being given all these treats (which has never happened before) that she did not medically alert to my rising blood sugar level during the visit. After coming home from the appointment and festering on my emotions, I decided to walk back and speak to the Vet face to face. I explained how I have spent thousands of dollars on this dog, been waiting years for her, and that she has gone through extensive training ever since she was only a few weeks old and does not need to be rewarded for behavior that is EXPECTED of her as a service dog. Therein-lies one of the major differences between regular dogs and service dogs. She apologized and ended the conversation by asking if she could pet my dog... Clearly, this practice does not have experience with service animals. Even after the conversation where I tried to educate her on the topic, it was apparent the message was still not fully heard or understood. We will be looking for a new Vet that respects our needs and is more educated on the importance of service animals. read more

We had a great experience with our puppy's first time wellness checkup at the Brookline location. The vet tech who took his history over the phone was super nice and knowledgeable and Dr. Lindsay was very kind, calming, and had all the answers to our most pressing questions as first-time puppy owners. No one can enter the clinic right now due to COVID-19 but they still managed to make it a nice experience and got us in and out in about 30 minutes. All the other pets and owners coming in and out looked happy too. Highly recommend! read more

I have been going to these folks for almost three years. For me, there is always a tension. I feel like I am being needy. It's weird. They are not into personal connections with pets or people. More into the business of the business and making money. Although my dog has some medical issues that require attention at the clinic every 4-8 weeks, I wouldn't know any of them to say hello on the street. Frustrating experience after routine annual visit when I tried to get the doctor's report and a prescription for recommended medication. Earlier in the year, my cat had had a life-threatening asthma attack and had been treated on an emergency basis at Angell Memorial. They told me they were not taking on new patients and I needed to do follow up treatment with my vet. This was my first visit to Boston Veterinary Clinic (Brookline) and it went normally but it took two weeks for me to get the doctor's report and a prescription. During this time, I called repeatedly and was given different stories about the delay. Eventually I called Angell Memorial who sent them a copy of the prescription. I picked it up at Boston Veterinary Clinic (Brookline) where they printed it out but no local pharmacy would fill it because the signature was electronic. In the end, I had to go to Angell Memorial in person where they still had a record with one refill available and I was able to fill it at their pharmacy. I still had a few questions about other issues mentioned in the doctor's report and a few days later (over two weeks from the initial appointment) the doctor did return my call and answered those, which I do appreciate. read more

I would not recommend this vet. I found them to be transactional and disorganized. As background, I brought my newly adopted puppy to BVC for care over her first few months. We visited BVC 6 times (both Brookline and Tremont locations) and spent $1500 on normal puppy care visits and a bladder infection. What I mean by transactional: When I imagine an ideal vet, I think of a competent doctor that knows my dog well, has a plan for her long-term health, and is an effective communicator in helping me to understand how to best care for my dog. This was not my experience at BVC. Over the course of our appointments, we saw three different doctors, none of whom expressed remembering my dog the last time they had seen her or commented on her progression as a puppy or through her bladder infection. Because of COVID, conversations with the doctors were over the phone, but the doctors called me AFTER they seen my dog and were no longer with her. Several times this resulted in them having to find her in the clinic to do further examination based on my questioning. I found the doctors to be not attentive to detail (one missed a sore on my puppy's stomach that I had asked them to examine), and not able to answer basic questions such as how often they see cases of the illnesses puppies are vaccinated for in Massachusetts. They communicated inconsistent information about my puppy's first year of care (vaccines, spaying, etc.) when I asked them. As a client, my experience was that the doctors didn't develop a relationship with my dog or me and wanted to get off the phone as soon as possible. What I mean by disorganized: The whole world has had to adapt to COVID, and BVC has too. You drop your dog off outside and BVC calls you to discuss their care. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, several times I had wait 10+ minutes to get through to their office to let them know I had arrived. Then, you receive a call from a tech to check in, then another call from the doctor, then another call from an office team member to pay your bill. This sounds fine in theory, but because of the disorganization among their teams several times we had to call back and forth between groups to clarify, such as when I was being charged for a medication the doctor didn't tell me my dog needed. Some other examples of disorganization: doctors not discussing the questions I asked techs during the check-in calls; a tech picking up my dog calling her a boy and saying they were ready to do her first round of vaccinations when we were there for her last round; telling me over the phone to drop off a fecal sample on a Saturday at the Brookline location when the Brookline location is in fact closed on Saturdays; telling me over the phone we would do a series of vaccinations on a certain date and arriving and being told that it's not possible to do that series of vaccinations. In addition, BVC spams your email with commercial offers and spends significant money outfitting their offices to be comfortable for clients, such with outdoor tents and heating. Perhaps some people will find this valuable, but I want to work with a vet that prioritizes care for my dog and good communication with their clients. I will note that the Tremont location seems to be better run than Brookline. Also, among the doctors we saw, Danielle Rosenberg was competent and pragmatic (would recommend her), but she was the exception among all other staff with whom I interacted. read more

I have been a client for many years but they still would not fill a prescription for my two dogs. I called them to find out why and they said I had to schedule an appointment. I had an appointment already scheduled for both dogs in a couple weeks that I had made a week earlier. I call back to get the records for my dogs and then they tell me another reason why prescription was denied. Terrible communication. I want good organized care and it seems they just look to maximize dollars. It's about the money they can make and not what is best for animal. All done with them. read more

We had a doctor and a technician in the room for my Pomeranian's initial visit, and they had great treats available to distract him when he was receiving his shots and tests. I was also able to stay in the room during the procedures, without having to ask! The charges were reasonable for a vet clinic, and this will be his primary care destination going forward. This place is amazing. You can't get any better than Dr. Bourquin, he has been taking care of our fur babies for so many years and he always goes above and beyond. I am one of those fur baby moms that always have a million questions and worry over the littlest thing's (I can be quite a pain lol), but not for Dr. B! I brought my labradoodle puppy " Splash" in for his first vet visit, post leaving his mom. The staff at Boston Veterinary Clinic were incredible with him. They Were incredibly sweet and caring. I was extremely satisfied with the service and the vet Dr. was absolutely great with educating me on things to watch for. I wish Dr. Straut were my doctor!!! She and her staff are the most amazing people I've ever met! I brought our 13 year old smooth fox terrier in to see Dr. Straut and it was love at first site. Zoe' doesn't take to new people well she just ignores them.. Zoe came in with a high fever and was shaking.. Dr. Straut sat on the floor and Zoe walked over and sat with her!!! That was a first! I would not go to this clinic! Recently we received no explicit guidance on how to give much needed medication to my dog and the lack of this guidance led to my beloved pet's death. Some things cannot be handled on a sidewalk! They did not attempt to use any technology (facetime, zoom, etc.) to ensure that medicine is administered properly. Since his death we have not heard one word of condolence from the vet or his office. They took my money as fast as they could, but did not reach out to us either by phone or in writing to offer their regrets. Please, if you care for your pet stay away from this place. read more

Awful experience. During Covid you can't go inside so you call when you arrive and they come out and get your pet. Many businesses have been doing this for months and it's a streamlined, simple process. I arrive 20 minutes early in the August heat, and could not get a hold of them. I tried calling multiple times and they would not answer the phone, so I left voicemails. Finally got someone to answer two minutes after my appointment started who said they were still finishing up with a previous client and would call me when they were ready. I tried again after 20 minutes to which they told me they couldn't find me when it was my appointment time and I would need to reschedule. I told them I would not reschedule because I was here at my time and the reason I'm here is a medical emergency; in fact I drove a far distance to come to the only one of their clinics that had an available appointment. The doctor got on the phone who didn't understand why I was upset. Told her I've been here for almost an hour waiting, I heard her re-ask the receptionist what happened. It appears the receptionist lied to the doctor saying that she could not find me, when the truth is she never called me back even AFTER she knew I was outside waiting. I did speak with her at 9:32 when I called, and when my appointment was at 9:30. That was when she told me I would need to wait longer, and told the doctor she could not get a hold of me - leading the doctor to tell me I need to reschedule. They finally took my dog in, they called me with which test they want to run but nobody had a conversation with me about the symptoms my dog was even experiencing. I asked how they can know which tests to run without asking me what's wrong with her, to which we went ahead and had the conversation then. I'll never return to this clinic. I understand that appointments can be challenging, but the disrespect of lying to the doctor and saying I wasn't there because she forgot to call me is unforgivable. This left me outside with the dog in August heat for 30 minutes, and then me personally outside for another hour sweating while they tried to fit my dog in between other appts. I can handle logistics challenges, but the disrespect was unprofessional, the ability to diagnose without asking about symptoms is concerning, and that is the reason I will never return and would advise others to go elsewhere. This place is the best! Their commitment to Fear Free has been so helpful for my dogs' emotional well being. My four dogs have seen all of the doctors here at some point or another. Dr. Lindsay has been an absolute godsend for one of my dogs with behavior issues. He is very fearful and sometimes aggressive. She helped us work through different medication combinations to lower his baseline anxiety in order to make his behavior modification plan the most effective. We have a baby due soon and feel very prepared thanks to her help. Dr. Beth has been really great with him, and he actually LOVES going to his acupuncture appointments with her. Andrea, the main technician at the Brookline location, is so caring and always happy to answer any questions I have. The location is very convenient, and it's incredibly clean! read more

We had our first ever vet visit with Tayshia (unsure of the spelling, sorry if wrong!) and Dr. Keck today. We adopted our cat, Frank, from a previous owner who could no longer house him. Frank was very nervous, but Tayshia and Dr. Keck were really great with him, very gentle and patient. We thought his previous records (with a prior owner) had been sent over, but they were missing some information so after Tayshia weighed him and asked some questions about his eating/bathroom habits, she went to call the previous vet while Dr. Keck did his wellness exam. Frank was really scared and hiding in a corner and Dr. Keck sat on the floor to comfort him before giving him his exam. She spent a lot of time calming him down and making sure he felt comfortable. She answered all our questions and helped us cut his nails. Frank needed a couple shots and she also gave those to him on the floor to keep him as comfortable as possible. She stayed after the shots and exam to pet him a little and calm him down. We really felt like the staff at BVC cared about our little guy and wanted to make the experience as comfortable as possible for him. They also gave us a dental pack and let us know how to brush his teeth. Very knowledgable and kind staff! read more

Dr Straut is a terrific vet! She is smart, professional and also very caring and makes you and your dog(s) feel very welcome. I have always had pets and Dr. Straut is the best veterinarian I have every been to. My only complaint is that she does not see cats as I would love to entrust my cats to her care as I have with my dogs. She goes above and beyond and her affiliation with Beantown is just terrific and a great match. read more

I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Straut when I needed to find a veterinarian for my two dogs. It didn't take me long to figure out what a "gem" we had found! Of all the veterinarians I have dealt with in the past, she was far above and beyond the most caring and knowledgeable vet I had ever worked with. The dogs immediately felt it too. They were comfortable with Dr. Straut right away and are now always happy to go in for a visit. When my dogs have had issues, Dr. Straut always contacts me personally, either with phone calls or email. I have never had a vet communicate with me in the way that Dr. Straut does. She listens to you and takes the time to discuss and explain the issue in a way that you can understand and she covers all the options that may be available. I feel that Dr. Straut offers far more than I could ever have hoped for. read more

This is hands down the BEST place to take your beloved dog. Our GSD had a lot of GI and skin issues and Dr Straut is so kind, helpful and patient with us and our GSD. She is incredibly knowledgable and her entire staff is warm, friendly and you can tell they truly love their job. read more

We took our new puppy to Dr. Straut at Beantown Vet Clinic for the first time this week, and she is awesome! So friendly and knowledgeable, and great with our pup. She gave us lots of helpful advice and genuinely cared about our dogs well being. The vet tech who assisted her was also very sweet and awesome with our dog. Everything from the clean but welcoming look of the place, to the smiling receptionist...this place RULES! I am so happy it is close to me and that it exists! After reading positive reviews on Google and Yelp, I felt comfortable bringing my new dog (three-year old rescue) to Boston Veterinary Clinic in Brookline. My comfort ended there. Upon arriving, the man at the check-in desk was extremely curt and annoyed at something. The exam itself was okay and while I appreciate that the clinic is fear-free, it became clear that policy was only practiced in the exam room. When it came time to leave, my dog needed a bit more coaxing to leave the room, as she was still new to me and the surroundings. When I suggested carrying her out, the vet immediately shut me down and said my dog would bite and/or attack when I knew she would not -- she's never had any issue being carried and she's a timid dog who has never shown aggression to me, her foster, or her shelter. Instead, the vet dragged her out of the exam room, across the lobby, and up most of the stairs using her leash -- increasing any anxiety or fear she was already feeling. At the time, I was already a bit overwhelmed and did not realize how inappropriate those actions were. For a clinic that prides itself in being fear-free, that seemed like the complete opposite of what should have been done. As I was leaving, the vet also asserted that my dog would require intensive behavioral training and also responded incredibly negatively when I said we already had a training evaluation lined up, saying that regular training would be useless. Despite the convenience of this location, I definitely will not be returning and would much rather travel further to a different office. read more

As a first-time dog owner, I couldn't have asked for a better veterinary experience than at Beantown with Dr. Straut. Her knowledge, skill, and understanding of dogs has always made me feel like me and my pup were in the best hands. I switched to Dr. Straut following a negative experience at another Brookline vet. My dog is a rescue and has an attitude, and I am definitely an anxious mom. I did not feel that the previous vet listened to my concerns, and sometimes seemed frustrated with my dog. Dr. Straut and her staff, on the other hand, are patient, explain everything in detail, answer questions, and greet my little guy (and me) with a very warm and welcoming attitude. I feel very comfortable bringing him there, and know he is in good hands. He just had a professional teeth cleaning, and they updated me after each step. I feel that this clinic finds what works for each individual dog and runs with it. If you live in the Brookline area, you should definitely be going here with your pup - it's just the best. read more
