We came here for a Witch Fair. When we got here I recognized this was a store we had been to but a new location. We really enjoyed the new location. Everyone here was really friendly. We liked the fairy and took some pictures. I got some crystal candy from a vendor, it was so delicious. I also bought a fun witch oven mitt from the Tea Room store, I love it, it works really well. You would not think so, but not all oven mitts are equal, some are not effective when you actually need it. We will be back and also look forward to their future fairs. read more

When I want to find a new card set or a special candle, this is were I go in Metro Detroit. Easier to get to since they relocated out of downtown Ferndale and more parking. Friendly staff that will find the answers for your questions. They also have lots of different stones, jewelry, and decor items. While I have not had a reading at the new location, they are done in a more private area. Never drink tea, so you will have to be the judge there. I stop by a couple times a year since you can over spend if you are not careful, but money well spent. read more

Not so easy to find using the Apple maps. It's best to turn into the parking lot off of Woodward Heights street. The store front is facing Goodrich street, but the door for the entrance and the parking is in the back lot off of Woodward Heights. It's in the industrial building complex. If you think it's the wrong lot, it's probably in the right direction then. It's in the corner of this L shaped complex. They moved into a larger space from their old spot on 9 mile, it's so spacious. They have almost a reception area when you first walk in and to the right is the shopping, the left side is for the tea room. They have a complementary tea for the day and it was an apricot tea tonight. I ended up getting a pot of tea that would need to be steeped, the fairytale tea. Any of the tea leaves in the jars are $2 for them to steep it for you. I ended up buying the tin can of the fairytale tea. It is $14 for a 2.5 ounce tin can of tea. This beautiful blue flowered tea kettle I was about to buy was $48, but my husband always likes to look anything I am about to buy up on amazon to see if he can find the same kettle or whatever item on Amazon before I buy them. He wants to make sure I don't overpay. He was able to track down the same kettle and color and style on Amazon for $23.99. It's hard to justify paying the $48 after seeing it on Amazon for $23.99. I had take a pass on the kettle. I did buy the can of tea, since the blend is unique here. The staff here are all super friendly and helpful and patient and accommodating. read more

This is my first time coming in since BTR moved to a bigger, much better location. I was thrilled to see how much space they really have! Gone are the days of squeezing carefully through shelves of crystals, jewelry, and delicate displays. Now we roam free - for hours - in a gorgeous, open building. The staff, as always, is amazing. I've seen a lot of reviews compare them to furniture salespeople, but I haven't had this problem. I typically get one or two people stopping by to see if I need help, and other than that I'm left alone. In a world of big box stores where no one even makes eye contact, it's nice to be noticed sometimes! One of my absolute favor things about Boston Tea Room is the other customers you run into. Regardless of what you're shopping for and why, everyone is really friendly and helpful. I was looking at a couple of different crystals and actually ended up getting a really helpful opinion from some other woman shopping. I had small conversations with 3 people during my visit and was even invited to attend a tarot reading party that weekend. I stopped in here while walking around with some friends and found some really cool finds as always. I don't know what it is about his place but I feel like every time I'm here I find something new or spot something in here I've never seen before. This time it was tea. I had no idea that they sold tea leaves and they all smell wonderful! They've always offer me a cup of tea while shopping and looking around but it never occurred to me that the tea I was drinking was tea that they actually sold as well. I was just looking this time but next time I'm definitely going to get some. They had some really nice pins too! I never noticed them before either but they had some funny and very relatable pins seeing as I too am a mother of dragons (puppies, dragons, same thing lol). And I can spend all day looking at their stones! I find it very relaxing looking at them and reading their different healing properties. Visited this store for the first time today after hearing about it for many years. Came in to see if I could find something to cleanse my home. Well... after perusing for 15-20 I gave up and walked out. First, not one employee to ask questions to at all. Second, they were SO expensive compared to many other stores I've been to it was ridiculous. I left mainly because I cannot believe in a store that should be "spiritually helpful" when they are ripping people off. It is apparent by pricing standards the bottom line is $$$$ and that is all. Won't be returning, will branch out elsewhere even if I have to drive several hours to show my support to fair and friendly businesses. read more

Surrounding all of the hype around the Boston Tea Room, I was so excited to finally find the time to go and look around last month. Once I arrived though, I really wasn't feeling the vibe....I was expecting more options, and perhaps I should not have assumed, but I did think that there would be more options offered for essential oils, incense, crystals, and just some other items I was interesting in purchasing. However, that wasn't a big issue to me, but what was an issue is that on two different occasions, there was a staff member that I observed following me everywhere I went throughout the store. Now, I want to give the staff member that the day that I was in the store was the day of PRIDE in Ferndale. It was extremely busy, and there were customers everywhere in the tiny space, as well as all types of staff throughout the store. But the same staff member followed me around and even toward the back of the store. So maybe they were told to be on the look out even more b/c it would be more crowded?!? If that's the case, I still wasn't feeling the vibe from the staff member. Nor were the selections of items enough to just woo me back to the store, but my friend and I kept saying we would consider going back on a normal operational day when it's not so crowded and give a second chance. A positive was that there were two ladies outside of the store that were doing tarot card readings for $15.00 for I believe 10 or 15 minutes. I had a reading by a young lady named Liz. She was very nice, and my reading was pretty interesting. And there are a few classes that I would be interested in signing up for, if I do choose to return back to the store. read more

If I had gone in, I would have grabbed what I needed, then been forces to wait. That would have lead me to wandering around and looking. My quick trip would have wound up spending ridiculous amounts on lingham chakra alignment mandalas, patchouli scented beard oil, Apache tear drink coasters, combination fairy wizard Tarot card - ice scrapers and a glass fairy chakra alignment unicorn horn and hooka combo. I would never buy those things off of Amazon, which is where I wound up going for my one thing. So, thanks to the redheaded woman, her gravely voice and her excellent time keeping skills. This place has a very large selection of organic loose teas. I tried the green earl grey and dargeling. Small tins are around $6 and worth it. They have a warm tea out to sample as well. I didn't venture into the rest of the store but it's worth a trip for the tea selection. read more

I am a skeptic but my mom and I went in for a reading just for fun. Prior to our time slot, we had 10 minutes to poke around. The free tea was nice, and I liked the various rocks (I am not into the crystals and stuff, but my son likes rocks). The tarot cards were really fun. My mom and I both had readings which we audio recorded. For me, they were dead on with what they were saying - I was trying hard not to tell them anything but she knew a lot. Same with my mom's reading. It was $50 for 1/2 hour session which was a bit steep - I don't know I would go back all the time...but it was fun for an every once and a while thing. read more

Great if you're a yuppie who's really into cultural appropriation & has money to blow, but if you're even remotely experienced in gemology/mineralogy, Paganism, or Tarot, you're going to be wildly disappointed in the elementary assistance the sophomoric staff are able to provide - that is, if you're even able to redirect them from following you around. I've met cops that treated me less suspiciously, for the love of gods. On that note, gotta say that it's *awfully* strange to see a shop so vested in putting excessive signs up warning people not to shoplift lest a potential offender be shamed on Facebook and arrested by police...while selling several pieces of Black Lives Matter merchandise? Sure, Jan. They got one extra star for having a few cute buttons and a few gems that I don't find often in stores, but I was so put off by having the four of them taking turns literally following me and my friend (two visibly-professional women) around for our ENTIRE visit that I don't plan to go back. It was an insult to have these little girls who weren't even out of diapers when I started my spiritual practices constantly hovering over my shoulder watching me like vultures to see if I might dare to slip a stone in my pocket. If you're that fearful of shoplifters, then keep all your small pieces in display cases so your patrons can stop feeling like they're being hunted by dogs. read more

This is my FAVORITE metaphysical shop! The store is very large and carries everything you could ever need for you altar/practice/spirit including, but not limited to, crystals, tons of incense, jewelry, books, posters, candles, statues, fun stickers, cloths, some clothing, and lovely enamel brooches. There's also a great selection of unique, rare, and beautiful tarot card decks if that's up your alley. The staff is super helpful, kind, and are great to chat with about nearly anything! Price-wise, I feel as if this is one of the few new age shops out there that aren't primarily seeking to make a profit off of customers over providing materials and opportunities for enrichment. I got a fairly large ammonite specimen for $9 and a gorgeous abalone shell for about $16 to hold some of my smudges, of which I find very reasonable. Yes, some larger and rarer crystal specimens are more pricey, but the prices seemed appropriate and didn't indicate anything that seemed fraudulent (ex: suspiciously cheap for rare stones). In addition, unlike some other new age/metaphysical stores in the area, I didn't find any obviously fake, dyed, or counterfeit crystals (there are some manmade ones, like sunstone, but they are noted as such). All of the crystals I observed have small notes that say if they're natural or manmade, and I could tell that all of their items were treated and cleansed with love. All in all, even if you're not a 'crystal person' or are familiar with psychic and metaphysical energy, DEFINITELY check this place out! It's a true gem and you will surely walk out with something you will treasure. read more

You can find everything from tarot cards, books, candles, white sage, cauldrons, incense, crystals and stones, and items for your altar. My sister and I recently discovered TBTR. I had a psychic reading that seemed promising and hopefully some of it will come true. I did the 30 minute standard reading for $50 which is kinda pricey. The medium utilized a crystal ball and tarot cards during the session. I was skeptical going in to the reading but impressed by the end with the accurate details and closing advice. In addition to mediums TBTR sells a variety of spiritual guidance books, stones, smudge sticks, oils, dream catchers, clothing, meditation bowls, astrological cards and much more. Been coming here for over 10 years. I managed as a young adult here, and was apart of this store when it was first in the arts building in Ferndale. This is, and has always been my favorite store in Ferndale. The staff is always helpful at answering any questions about all the crystal clusters and unique metaphysical gifts. I am here an average 1-2 week or over a dozens times a month. Anytime I need to stock up on sage, I make my way over. I always tend to find more than I'm looking for. Hehehe The loose leaf tea that owner Heatherleigh puts together are a must try. If you want quality tea, definitely come try it. They have small containers of tea or you can buy by the ounce. Yes indeed they also have psychics, astrologers and mediums to book. Call ahead to schedule an appointment and be sure to clarify what type of reader you are looking for. Based on your current outlook of whatever situation you want to discuss. The readers all have unique traits as gifted healers and one reader may work differently from one person to the other. I will say however, the only thing I'm disappointed is not having Reiki practitioners. As one myself, sometimes it's nice having someone else align you. Like a hairdresser who can't cut her own hair. I really hope this business continues to evolve and I am 100 percent on board with whatever new changes they continue to make. read more

I'm super bummed out to be giving this place 3 stars. First off - it's beautiful! Their shop has so many spiritual gifts it's overwhelming. I absolutely loved that part and looking at that section. The receptionists were so sweet and welcoming! I bought a 30 minute reading with Kim. Kim was super sweet and welcoming. One of the downsides is that the first 10 minutes of my reading, I received very vague and broad information that could've been applied to anyone in general. I didn't feel like it particularly applied to me. Kim was very nice so my complaint isn't exactly about her but more so on the information I received. The reason I won't return is because I left the BTR so much more confused than going into there. I went there to seek answers and clarify and left very emotional and confused. Maybe it was the information I received in my reading, maybe it wasn't what I wanted to hear, but it just didn't make sense to me and I don't feel like it applied to me (maybe I'm wrong). The individual crystals along with the jewelry were all beautiful. The staff was wonderful. Everyone was so patient and so happy to help and give information about the products. Carly helped me and she was great. She knew so much about each crystal and was so happy to share the information. The complimentary tea was outstanding. So I love this place!!! I've been for several reasons, to have readings, to buy sage, and I've always planned on going to a Wednesday meditation. My first reading was with Alexandria. I had literally 10 minutes with her and she touched on everything. Which is extra amazing because I gave her nothing, I was so confused myself and despite that she was very intuitive. The most recent reading I was unable to get Alexandria so I went with Audriana. It was an OK reading. I feel like I was giving her a lot of info when she asked and she was feeding off me. During the half hour it was all about the same thing and I didn't get a ton of new info or insight. It was more like counseling. Granted my aura may have been "one-track-minded" but I would have appreciated getting off one topic and seeing more of the big picture of my life. I will be going again and can't wait to update this and hopefully give a higher rating. But I would definitely recommend going and finding the psychic that works for you. read more
