I used to love going to this place with my family to get christmas stocking stuffers and new candy, however we haven't been since COVID and man did inflation hit hard. You gotta be prepared to drop at least $30 on maybe 5 pieces of candy. The collectibles are outrageously priced but it's not just this place. This place was neat. I hadn't seen it before and according to the other reviews on here, they moved from a Woodward location to 9 Mile, so that would explain it. Huge selection of gifts, including some fun Schitt's Creek stuff and Golden Girls, and also lots of candy and chocolate. They had Coffee Crisp which surprised me, it's a Canadian chocolate bar and I've never seen it outside of Canada. They are still requiring masks as of right now (6/13/21) which was nice, also. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's a bit pricey - most of the gifts I saw were $9.99 and up, for small things, and they had some Sanders one-piece chocolates for 75c (I've seen them 25-50c in other stores). Otherwise, this was a fun store to browse and I will be back at some point. read more

What's not to love about a place you can get a sugar high, good laughs, and lots of cool knick knacks to brighten up your world. Add that right wingers would leave the place with anger and a big headache, you have a place I am glad to live near and EBS would have dropped lots of cash. I keep coming back for the fruit slices that are thicker than Macy's. I also like the selection of retro candy from my distance past childhood. I had to buy a birthday present for one of those "hard-to-buy" 20s generation so I knew I could get some cool stuff she would love. I found some socks, a note pad to write down her evil thoughts, and tennis shoes erasers. Even a bag for the introvert she is to put it all in. She loved all of it and wanted to know where the store this store is located. They have their Christmas stuff out and a warning that some of it would not have been on your grandmother's tree unless your grandma was like a 1960s hippie. Worth the drive just to come here, but you also get to enjoy the other shops in beautiful downtown Ferndale. Parking on the street, lots in the back, and other lots around the downtown. $1 an hour. read more

While walking around downtown Ferndale (from Rust Belt Market), my friend and I stumbled upon this place that looked so cute from the window displays and wanted to check out the interior. If you're into CUTE THINGS, this place is for you! It's a great spot for gift ideas for all ages, especially if you have someone in your life that loves novelty items or is just big into fandoms! I saw Avatar: The Last Airbender items in here, BTS (!!!) items in here, FRIENDS, Parks and Rec, The Office, general adorable PLUSHIES, the list goes on! There's something for everyone! Also, retro/nostalgic candy GALORE as well! I kept on saying, as I walked through this store, how nostalgic everything was making me feel. It's all so darn cute! We absolutely loved it! Deeper retail space from their Woodward location. Much better location being in the heart of downtown Ferndale now. This is a great spot for gifts for kids and adults of ages. They have toys, old and new and retro cool. They have even expanded their fun socks from their previous location too. I have many socks from here already. Wore a pear into the store even. The staff are patient, friendly and helpful. It's a laid back store and you could easily and leisurely peruse and check out each shelf and every nook and cranny of this locale and find something interesting and put a big smile on your face. This is the most adorable store to visit! We visited on a Sunday after going to the Rust Belt and found the most amazing collection of pop culture kitsch and candy. It was very hard to resist, so we bought a retro My Little Pony and some Death Note magnets. Both children love pop culture and were excited to get those adorable presents. I will definitely be back for more goodies. It is a small space but jam packed with clever items for anyone who likes fun and silly vibes. It was also a pleasant shop with very friendly staff. The original Rocket in Ypsi is one of my favorite shops and the Ferndale location definitely lives up. It's a great place for gifts, stocking stuffers, or just a treat for yourself! Think lots of novelty candies, figurines, mugs, bags, stuffed animals, snacks, and more. Good for geeky friends and pop culture lovers with sections devoted to the likes of Star Trek, the Muppets, I Love Lucy, Peanuts, etc etc. They have lots of fun games and pranks, retro candy, and lots of locally produced treats (like Sanders and such). I literally could spend hours in here pouring over all of the cool products and can guarantee that I have! They have tons of unique finds organized in a really pleasing way. Helpful staff can point you in the direction of what you may be looking for, or they'll just let you peruse the collection on your own. Prices aren't too crazy and you'll find stuff you won't find anywhere else. Definitely a great shop worth visiting! read more

I've heard about this place before from other Yelper's and I keep forgetting to pay it a visit. My first assumption about the place was "why do I need more candy in my life? No time for Diabetes!" I was in the area Saturday night and decided to pay this place a visit. I assumed it was all going to be candy, but I was horribly wrong. It's got some candy, but mostly a lot of awesome gifts. I could have easily spend $100 or more with all the cool stuff they have in here. What I like is that you can get all sorts of cool gifts from here. Funny stuff, books, candy, chocolates, Michigan stuff, stickers and so much more. Plus, the stuff is reasonably priced. I'm totally going back for more! read more

My 17 year old daughter and her friend loved this store and visited on several occasions. They PURCHASED items from the store as well. (Both work and have family's that give them spending money.) They were in the store recently and were kicked out of the store because they were not with an adult. Her friend explained that they've been there before and buy merchandise when they come in. They were told by the woman that kicked them out that whoever didn't kick them out previously should have because they aren't 18. My daughter and her friend are clean-cut, good kids. I'm in shock that this happened. Frankly, it feels really wrong to me that they were humiliated and singled out because of their age. (Age discrimination.) Particularly at a toy/gift store. (My daughter will "legally" be of age to enter the toy store in January.) read more

Fun, fun, fun! There's something for everyone in this clean, jam-packed, interesting walk down the two lane road of history and state-of-the-art fun. The owners are pleasant and helpful as they steer you towards candy or off-beat gifts that will appeal to the kids or perhaps grandparents. I found a wacky wallet for my equally wacky nephew, LOL. I figure if he doesn't like the wallet he'll at least like the cash I put inside or the lovely photo of his Aunt Kelly, haha. I dinged the place by one star because the prices are pretty darn high and mostly because all the political bah-ha-ha material was 100% slanted towards liberals, making this conservative fool feel left out. I needed to get a few gifts for my horribly homesick, Michigan loving lesbian bff. So I came here. There's so many fun and cute gifts and things, I even ended up leaving with things for myself! There's shirts, buttons, bags, stickers, toys, candy, it goes on and on. LOTS of Detroit/Michigan themed gifts. There's also a whole section for nerd culture things. Really unique novelty store in Ferndale. Great place to shop for gifts for the person who seemingly has everything. Lots of nostalgic favorites like whoopie cushions and 80's candy. Face it, some days you just need a little funk in your life. And for days like that, the Rocket's got you covered. We've all been there. Driving that repetitious drive down Woodward, staring of into space, jamming out to some Taylor Swift. Seeing store front after store front of the same, typical chain shops and restaurants just gets so boring. But then you see it. Like a mirage in the dessert, you see the bright colors popping out of the window and the aura of excitement that call out to you, then you make it into the Rocket. The Rocket ain't your everyday same ol' same ol' kinda of shop. Oh, no. Where else can you buy a funky unicorn head to wear to your best friend's dinner party at the same time as 5 pounds of different sour patch kids to get you through the snowy drive? I've stopped in a few times and the staff is really top notch. You get a mix of friendly faces and help when you need it, but not that awful overbearingness that too often comes in gift shops. The Rocket's the type of place that you can swing into a million times and always find something new and cool to look at or pick up. From tshirts, to candy to kids gifts and just some plain weird stuff, they've got you covered. This is a really fun store. It's perfect for stocking stuffers or a last minute birthday present. It's just a lot of goofy nonsense, but not in a bad way. If you need a gift and want to get someone a Funko POP or weird old school candy, this is where you go. Plus their wrapping paper and greeting card collection is very unique and cool - it won't look like you got it at Target like everyone else. I stumbled upon this place as I was walking to a comic book store. My friends and I decide to pop in to this place to check out all the uniqueness we saw through the window. We were first intrigued by just walking around and seeing all the cool unique things they sold here. I just couldn't stop checking out everything because it was so much to check out. I loved how they had little sections of different things towards movies, TV shows and even just things for the general public. They had a big section of Detroit items that I really liked seeing that you don't see that in many stores these days. They had a really big comic related items. The gentleman who is running the store when I came in was super polite and super friendly and very helpful when looking for random things. My friends and I purchased a few things that we know we don't need but had to have. This for sure will be a place that I'll be coming back quite often when I come to Ferndale. It for sure is super fun to just walk around and see all the uniqueness that I could buy as gifts for others. What a pleasant surprise! We stopped in on a whim and we were amazed by the incredible variety of products The Rocket has to offer. There are household items, novelty gifts, toys, jewelry, clothes, candy...literally something for everyone. The woman behind the counter was also very friendly and helpful. This will absolutely become our go-to-place for birthdays and holidays. We walked out with a Dr. Seuss book, an authentic Japanese cake eraser and an air powered bow and arrow toy. I am now regretting not purchasing one of the several Michigan T-shirts that I fell in love with. For some reason, retail stores seem to struggle in Ferndale. I sure hope this is not the case for this outstanding new store. read more

We popped in right before Christmas and wandered around for an hour. This place will make you happy. The nostalgia, the punny gifts, and there is truly something for everybody. Any age or range of interest you can for sure find something for them here. The price tag is a little higher than similar items you might get on Amazon but that is so worth it to shop local. This is a great place to shop and I think even browse with a date - it is a little far north of downtown Ferndale's main strip but enjoy a stroll up there and I'm sure the Rocket's selection will have you laughing and feeling goofy in no time. I went in for the "Make Your Own Easter Basket" promo, my kid loved her pickle flavored chapstick and stained glass coloring book! It's definitely going to be my one stop shop for every birthday favor, stocking stuffer, and Easter basket from now on. And they have some super fun stuff for the adults too, like Duff Energy Drinks and Nostalgia candy, organized by decade. They gift wrapped my basket beautifully and the layout is great too!
