Not only as a professional do I rely on Boston Beauty for Extensions but I also had a very great experience with customer service when my car keys got stuck. It was 15 minutes before closing and the girl the front desk was not rude to me at all and she was super sweet and let me stay in there as it was raining out. I live right down the street and come here for my blonde hair care products (that you really can't find in the drugstore). I've found that a lot of these Beauty Supply type stores are filled with employees who feel the need to critique your current hair routine and give a "are you sure you want to do that?" look when you check out. This is NOT the case here! The employees are willing to help you find whatever it is you're looking for WITHOUT judgement. Of course, the few times that I HAVE asked for advice, they've been super helpful and even tried to find the most affordable option, instead of trying to sell their most expensive product. The last time I was in, I asked for an employee's opinion on choosing between two toning products. She gave me her honest opinion and told me that the cheaper option worked just as well as the more expensive version! That really sealed the deal for me. Overall, I feel like the employees genuinely care about helping the customers find products they need/want. Prices are good as well, especially for some higher end hair products. read more

Wow! Super impressed! A couple of days ago I drove back from a weekend at my mom's house in New Hampshire. When I got home, I quickly had to hop in the shower to get ready for work. When I got out, I realized I had left my hairdryer and "go-to" brush at my mom's - - and it was 18 degrees outside! AHH!! I had been keeping an eye open for a new hair dryer anyway, but obviously that morning I had to take immediate action. In my panic, I remembered my hair dresser had previously recommended that I check out Boston Beauty for a new hair dryer. I got in my car with soaking wet (frozen) hair and called Boston Beauty Supply in Wakefield. Tina answered very cheerfully. The first thing I said was, "Tina, I have a hair emergency!", and proceeded to tell her my issue, describe my hair needs, and let her know that I was literally stopping there on my way to work (for which I was already late). She could NOT have been more helpful over the phone, and said she would pick out a few for me. When I flung myself through the front doors, I saw they were very busy but Tina immediately knew it was me (I don't know, maybe it was the wet, frozen, unbrushed disaster I had happening on my head???). Much to my surprise, she had not only picked out her top 3 suggestions for me, but she had one of each out of their boxes and plugged in at the front counter, ready for me to try!!! Within a minute, I found my new dryer, and then Tina suggested a new brush at my request. Not only was I in and out of there in 5 minutes, I got a GREAT deal and could not have been more impressed with the superior level of customer service I received from Tina. 5 bright shiney stars for her....rated Boston Beauty a 4 overall because that store is rundown and could really use some updating inside and out. I had such a wonderful experience at Boston Beauty Supply in Wakefield today. The young lady who assisted me was Sara. I told her what it was I needed. I wanted a wand, or iron that would give me a loose wavy curl. I have tried everything to no avail. She recommended a wand for the type of curl I wanted and then did a demonstration for me on my hair and the proper way to hold the wand. I was amazed as I watched in the mirror that she was creating the loose curls that I have been trying to get. I just was so pleased with the fact that she tried the wand on my hair BEFORE I purchased it to make sure it did what I wanted. I was so excited. We talked about hair and hair products. I told her I use henna for color and was looking for natural products. She introduced me to a completely organic shampoo and conditioner that was on sale!!! Sarah was so knowledgeable about hair and hair products. She had just attended a training session about shampoos and the effect they have on women going through chemo AND children with autism. She didn't push me to buy the product, instead wrote down the name of it so I could research it as I was very interested in this shampoo for my grandson. Sara was the most pleasant young lady and so personable. She never tried to sell me a $100 wand. It was $59.99, which I thought was incredibly reasonable, as I have bought $150 straightening irons in the past from Kiosks at the mall!!! Sara also gave me a couple of free samples of leave-in conditioner to see how I liked them, because I do have very dry hair. I had a very similar situation happen with me Janet. Last Friday I walked into the store to purchase some product to my hair and the lady that was helping me offer other products on sale. I then remember, that my daughter asked me to get for her a spray "Perfect 4 Platinum" from pureology.The store didn't have it. Then the lady start pushing me other products trying to convince me that it would work better than the one my daughter asked for. Plus it was on sale, buy 2 and get 1 free. Like you I was in a hurry and decided that maybe a should give it a try. Even though inside me I was not very comfortable of my decision. Couple days later, after talking with my daughter on the phone I went back to the store to return the items, and what I found was a bunch of bitter people treating me as if I were the bad guy, trying to take their money away. I couldn't believe my eyes. The lady who sold me the products hided in the back of the store and the other two just gave me no chance. The most they could do was give me a store credit. I took my product back and came home in tears. I'm not done with them. I'm planing to go back there now. This was a horrible experience and I will never buy in this store again. read more

I went to Boston Beauty tonight after purchasing a hair color At Sally 's in saugus, but realizing I might need more since my hair is long. I am soo grateful I did. The two women working saved me from making a grave mistake. Quick synopsis of my situation: I colored my hair red after being blonde for decades. I've been trying desperately to get rid of the red since. Nothing works. I Google what to do and went out to buy the products I read about, and bought at sally ' (the woman working had no advice, nor did she seem to want to help. ) Anyway, I purchased the stuff, thought I needed more and went to Boston beauty since it was close to home. The two women working were unbelievably helpful. Discouraged me from following thru with what I read. They were right. I knew pretty quickly that they were up selling me, I'm not stupid. I chose what I wanted to buy and didn't want to. With that being said, they were incredible! !! They spent the time to write down directions and we're soooooooo nice. I sill never set foot in Sally ' s again other than to return the stuff I bought tonight Boston Beauty in Wakefield will he my go to place from here on. I visited the store on 4/18/14. I was looking to have a consult on the hair color products that I use. Tina was very helpful in assessing my hair type and making recommendations from which I could make my own choice. She also let me know which items were on sale. I did not feel any pressure to buy items not on my list but I did appreciate her letting me know about their monthly specials. I did take advantage of a shampoo special and know that I got a very good deal for a great product. I am definitely a repeat customer and always feel welcomed by all the staff who support each other in helping the customer (me!) choose the best products! I have been a customer of Boston Beauty in Wakefield for many years and have always been very satisfied with the service, the products and the information I have received when I needed it. Tina has always been extremely helpful with color questions I have had and she always lets me know when new products arrive and what is on sale at the time. I have even called her from my salon and asked her questions over the phone and she was always polite and helpful. She is an exceptional sales person and sometimes I do purchase more than I went in for, but nobody twists my arm to buy anything and I appreciate the introduction to new items. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE? I had been a long time customer of Boston Beauty until now. On my last visit to Boston Beauty I stopped in approx. 30 minutes prior to closing time on a Friday to purchase only eyeliner and hair conditioner. I also asked if a particular product was the right color for me and they insisted that my face needed to be completely redone in order to figure this out. Now it was very close to closing time and I was the only customer left in the store. I said it wasn't necessary, but they did anyway, which I thought was considerate of them even though I had a long day and really wanted to head home. Some nice, expensive products were used on my skin and the end result was good. However, after that, they were very aggressive and pushing all of these products on me. Reluctantly, I did end up purchasing over $200 worth of products which was certainly not my original intention but I felt very overwhelmed and extremely pressured into buy these things. I certainly should have had more willpower and I do blame myself for being so lax. After realizing that I made a mistake purchasing all these items that I truly didn't need or want, I decided to keep only the products I had originally planned to purchase. All was fine that next morning when I returned to the store and waited patiently to be helped with my return. While I waited, the manager, Tina, was at the counter several feet away, speaking loudly and I noticed she was looking my way, and I could hear her talking about someone who came into the store last night and how much time was spent on this person, and she was clearly angry. At that point, I realized she was referring to me..badmouthing me to a client?! I was shocked by her unprofessional behavior and right then and there I knew that I would NEVER do business with these people again. One of sales girls then came over to help me while Tina was still mouthing off and she offered me a store credit for my $200 worth of products which I had no intention of accepting, since I knew I would not be going back there to use it. I said that was unacceptable, I would not be back there, I wanted my money back, and felt that they took full advantage of the situation. None of the products had been opened. Tina then came over and started to mouth off to me explaining I had no right to return the products, wasn't being fair and they spent so much time on me, etc. etc.. So I guess I was obligated to buy these products because they spent so much time on me? I guess she also thought it was fair to embarrass and badmouth a long time client right in front of her. I didn't realize it was a crime to return products. Any cosmetic company will refund your money with no questions asked especially since they were unopened (i.e. Sephora, Macys, Beauty Cafe, etc.). Clearly, she'd rather sacrifice clients for her commissions. To top it off she held my credit up for a month. I couldn't understand why it wasn't processed...was in touch with my credit card company...Boston Beauty, to find out how where my credit was, how long it takes to receive a credit, I even contacted the owner who had ZERO interest in working with me and resolving this issue and I had difficulty getting him to return my calls. He even told one of his store managers to tell me that he was going out of town for several months so he wouldn't have to deal with the situation. I was hoping for an apology, but never did receive one. After a month of attempting to get my money back, I had no choice but to finally threaten them with contacting the police and the Attorney General's Office...which I did do anyway. My $200 was returned to me via check the next day. Don't mess with these people. Unprofessional and uncaring all the way. Since then, I've found 2 wonderful shops...Natural Food Exchange in Reading and the Beauty Bar in Melrose . Also, ever notice when you ask for a product, you're given the gynormous size? They will do their best to sell you anything...even if you don't need it. They are not the professionals I thought I was dealing with all these years. They lost a very good customer. read more

I called and asked a price for hair extensions the girl told me they would be 120 60 with my lisence discount. fine. the lady helped me pick them out showed me how to section was AMAZING went above and beyond what she had to do. I go to the register and the manager tells me 75$ so I said I thought they were going to be 60 and she responds nope wrong noone told you that that's not how much they cost so someone didn't know what they were taking about. had he said I'm so sorry someone made a mistake sometimes we get confused there is alt of products in her I'm really sorry it they are 75 I would have been fine said okay and went on with my day. she spoke to me like I had no idea what I was talking about like I just made it up. I felt SO bad for the girl after I put my things in the car I went I apologize and she said there's nothing I could've done I'm sorry I made a mistake. after telling her I understand mistakes happen she said "I'm going to get in trouble no matter what" I feel so terrible this lady who was so kind is going to get in trouble when the manager who was flat out rude is not. mistakes happen and instead of telling someone that they are wrong and there is absolutely no way I was told 60 instead of 75 literally all she had to say was I'm sorry there was a mistake. because of that rude lady I will NEVER buy anything from there ever again. Boston beauty got the last 200$ from me they will ever see. I hope who ever owns this sees this and sends their "manager" with the WORST customer service to some classes to fix her poor attitude. read more

It was wonderful to see that great customer service is not a thing of the past. I had the pleasure of experiencing amazing customer service from Amanda in the Wakefield Boston Beauty store. She went above and beyond the call of duty to help me. On Thursday I called in a panic looking for a ponytail hair extension that my 15 year old daughter needed for a cheer competition on Saturday morning. Amanda took the time to thoroughly look to see what was available at her store and actually sent me pictures of all the color and style choices. She was very informative as to what products were available and how to use them. It was after 5 when I called and the store closes at 6 but Amanda took the time to call around to other stores that were located closer to me to see if they had what I needed.. She helped me determine the correct color to match my daughters hair and we decided that the only option would be to pick it up at her store the following day. I had to work on Friday so I had to send my sister to pick up the ponytail. She was so pleased that the item was put aside with my name for convenient pick up. The price was $20 cheaper than a similar product I looked at from Sally's. I had gone into Sally's looking and I was not given the same attention I received via phone from Amanda. The salesperson at Sally's was not nearly as educated about the products as Amanda was. She showed me what they had available but was unable to show or explain to me how they worked. I was amazed the next day when I received a message from Amanda asking if the product worked out well. She also took the time to wish my daughter luck at her competition. It is great to know that there are still decent and caring people in this crazy world we live in. Amanda obviously is very good at her job and cares very much about her customers.
