I was told by my dermatologist to only use a zinc based sunscreen, and not the one I currently use (Laura Mercier). I called to ask if they could hold some samples and stopped in on my way up to a family function They knew that I needed a zinc base, and sold me Trish McEvoy. I got home to discover that it is not zinc based, but has the same chemicals as my old product I now have to drive 16 miles to return this. I'm infuriated. They are truly unprofessional I returned today, and the staff were exceptionally generous and thoughtful. Bought some makeup here a few weeks ago after hearing good things. Great store and they carry a lot of items you won't find at a Sephora. The service however, was disappointing. The two girls at the store were snotty and could care less about helping me and not to mention, I stood at the wrong checkout counter for at least 5 minutes before anyone acknowledging me or telling me that I was standing at the wrong area. I doubt I'll return and will stick to the friendly service at Sephora. read more

Anne gave me the best facial I have ever had! There is a reason why she won Best Facialist for Boston back in 2010! The store carries great products! Unfortunately, the products are expensive! I feel like I can never leave this store without spending at least $100 but I'm willing to buy good products for my face! I just wish there was someway I could be notified about store events. I agree with the reviewers who had negative experiences. It's a pretty dissatisfying experience to shop at Blue Mercury. The visit I made about a week ago was my 4th or 5th trip to the Lynnfield store. With each visit I had a purchase in mind and bought something. This was my last trip. With all the other options (Sephora, Nordstrom's, NM, and independent standalones) there is no way I'm going to spend my time and money at a place with flighty and unprofessional sales people. I think I returned because I prefer small stores with a curated selection. And, I like that it is a woman owned business. During my first 2 visits, when they first opened, the staff was knowledgeable and talented. They seemed to know their business. On my last visit it was clear that Trish McElvoy was the product line du jour. Didn't matter my skin type (I'm on dry side) or what I had been using. I said what I like about the Chanel product I had been using and she dissed the product, hence indirectly me. The fact that I was looking for a different product was wasted on her. She focused only on the McElvoy line and when I didn't want the McElvoy's gel eye liner, she acted miffed. I asked what she suggested. Still annoyed she called across the room to a co-worker about a Nars product. Their personal conversation got interrupted and someone clumbered over to the Nars section. As for sample being a draw to a store, that doesn't lure me. What I'm most interested in is being asked what I might be interested in. Only once did I receive a sample at this store. I treated myself to a brow wax about 18 months ago. Not a good shaping and the product irritated my skin causing scabbing for about a week. I have had routine waxings without any skin irritation and they looked great. I returned my business to where it worked. This time the McElvoy product they put in my bag was the wrong color. I'm fair-skinned. The tube is #3. I am pretty sure that this review will do nothing to influence the service. What I know it will do is remind me not to return to this store, or to give it a recommendation. read more

Have given this location a couple chances, each time I'm so disappointed. Every time I visit, I feel like I'm disturbing the staff, they clearly don't want to be bothered. They don't give helpful recommendations, they want you to buy something and leave. One woman who helped me looked like she rolled straight from a late night at the club to work, felt very uncomfortable getting makeup advice from her...not that she gave me anything more than a "this ones nice." The locations in Back Bay and Seaport are WAY better, don't even bother with this one. Go to Sephora if you need makeup in Lynnfield. read more

I had a Modern Facial from Tess. It was really, really good. I have had hundreds of facials over the years, some even at famous spas. And THIS facial was in my top 3. The massage was far superior. It was the most relaxing, she used the best technique, it was excellent. She really knew what she was doing and she did it great. And she must've thought through what would feel excellent, because it did. She was fantastic at the extractions. At applying the product. At using the right touch. Really I can't find a single fault with the entire facial. And Tess was a total sweetheart, kind, genuine, salt of the earth. Happy and bubbly. I was very skeptical walking in because I'm from Seattle and I've never heard of Blue Mercury. It just happened to be the closest facial to my hotel, which was in the Boston Harbor part of town, at the brand new Blue Mercury on Seaport street. But Tess also works at the Lynnfield location and since yelp doesn't list the new Seaport location yet, I'm writing the review here. Bottom line: I kinda thought I was walking into a touristy cosmetic store with some mediocre aesthetician who occasionally did a facial. I love Market Street and was so happy when I discovered Bluemercury provides Spa Services. I decided to try a micro-dermabrasion facial with Tania. I wanted to try something new, and I've heard many great things about micro. I was a little nervous about it but Tania put me at ease and explained what the process was. She kept checking in with me to see if I was handling it ok. She also made me relax with her amazing massage. She asked me about my skin care routine and I let her know what it was, and asked if she had any recommendations for me. She was honest, kind and professional, I did not feel pressured that I had to buy anything. I ended up buying a cleanser and moisturizer at her recommendation and my skin looks the best it ever has! I had a wonderful experience with Tania and highly recommend you have a spa treatment with her! She will not disappoint! I plan on visiting her much more frequently! read more

I stopped for a Neat candle to give my friend for hosting Christmas dinner, and the young woman who helped me didn't want to be bothered. When I was checking out, she wouldn't even ask me questions in full sentences. "Name. Phone number. Birthday. Card. OK." The last time I checked, people who bought products were customers, and the people who sold to them said, "Thank you." She expected me to thank her for ringing up my purchase. I went in for a facial from Tess and can honestly say it was the best one I have received yet. She was so accommodating, informative, and has such a bubbly personality. It was great because she would tell me all of the products and explain exactly what they did as she applied them, but also allowed me to relax and enjoy the massage part. I highly recommend seeing Tess if you haven't yet. After the facial she pointed me in the right direction for skin care products.I purchased some cleanser, moisturizers and serum and it was the best decision ever. I have been going to Bluemercury for a few years and Tess has taught me everything I know about how to take better care of my skin. She has never made a recommendation that I have not liked. Whenever I have a questions about my skin I go to her because she does not just recommend a product but she actually educates me on the reasons and is able to explain how and what each product will do to help. With that being said I felt confident enough to send my mom to get a facial by Tess and she loved it. My mom was not just satisfied with the facial but Tess actually followed up with her the day after to check in and to see if she had any other questions. One thing about Tess is that you can tell she is passionate about what she does and she cares about your skin even if you are a first time client. read more

I can't trust all of the glowing reviews for this location because that's not the experience I've had here at all, on at least three occasions. I give the store two stars simply for being a Bluemercury, but zero stars for this location's level of service, which is consistently abysmal. I returned after my first bad experience thinking maybe they were just having an off day, returned again because I was simply desperate (only to find this location doesn't even carry the brand I wanted, despite the fact that my beloved Boston store does), but this was strike three, and I'm not likely to ever return to this location ever again. I went in yesterday to pick up a few things. I received no greeting as I entered the shop, and zero acknowledgment as I walked around gathering my products. Not a huge deal, but I wanted an eyeliner, which requires a sales associate's assistance. I stood there a good few minutes, testing a few colors, and there was no attempt to ask if I needed help. They lost part of my sale for that reason. The woman working the cash wrap was eating a very smelly bowl of food. Honestly, with all the nice things to smell in Bluemercury, I found it very jarring and off-brand for store that otherwise purports to provide a luxurious sense experience. The phone rang during my checkout transaction, and my email was never taken. Apparently it's unimportant to customer relations. The phone call also must have distracted the checkout girl beyond her capability to multitask, because, as I discovered this morning when I looked at my slip, I was double charged for one item and not charged at all for another. That's the final straw for me. And I wasn't going to complain about this, but I spent over $150 and got zero samples. I don't want to spend my money here any more. Go to the Newbury location if you can, where you'll be treated with respect, and receive excellent product recommendations. Love Bluemercury, very disappointed by this location. read more

She was so passionate about what she does and it really showed in her work! I came out feeling very refreshed and my skin looked flawless! She after showed me some sample products great for my short visit here while in MA and I love EVERY product. Don't know who this Tess is but she seems to be the only positive this store has going for it. I went in to get a sample of a very expensive skincare product to see if I had any type of reaction before I spent the cash. There was a pudgy blond girl working there. She did greet me but as soon as she knew I just wanted to try a sample first, I was all but ignored. She even made a phone call even though I could have used some help with the line I was looking at. Didn't matter to her...I wasn't spending $$ that day. Not a good way to treat someone who has never been in that store before. I eventually bought the full size of the sample I received, but I sure didn't get it from Blue Mercury. I went elsewhere. I will not be going back to this store. read more

Tess, the saleswoman, was so helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable - she offered her assistance without following or hovering around me - just let me know she was there if I needed her.
