This afternoon, my mom and I went to the H Mart in Koreatown Plaza, and we bought five pastries from Bosco Bakery, which is located in the mall's basement (B1, on the same floor as H Mart). We got two of my mom's favorite nut-loaded pastries (she absolutely loves them and usually buys three at a time when we come here, but today she only got two). Along with those, we picked up two cream breads and one custard cream bread, making it five items in total. I actually visited this place a very long time ago, but the part-time girl working there was so rude that I ended up avoiding the place for about 10 years. However, my mom recently brought home that nut pastry from here and raved about how delicious it was, which is why we ended up going back. It's a bakery with a café-style concept inside the mall. Today, the staff didn't seem overly friendly, but they weren't particularly rude either--just okay. The biggest downside to this place, though, is that the internet connection is terrible because it's down in the basement. Have you ever tried to eat a cake that was frozen and then thawed? I had this experience, and it was honestly shocking. The cake was so hard that I started wondering if I had accidentally bought an ice cream cake. When I called the bakery to ask about it, I was told that they make their cakes and freeze them immediately. Apparently, they ask customers when they plan to eat the cake because they need to know when to thaw it. The employee explained that they had sold several cakes that day and simply didn't have any thawed cakes available. Now I understand why some customers have left reviews mentioning mold on their products. The employee told me that this happens because they don't use preservatives. They even claimed that popular Korean bakery chains like Paris **tte and Tous l**J use so many preservatives that their products don't spoil easily. From what I know, based on a friend who works at a well-known bakery, their baked goods are handled very differently. Unsold bread is disposed of at the end of the day, and even leftover cakes are often given to employees rather than sold the next day. So how is it acceptable for Bosco Bakery to sell cakes with no clear indication of when they were made, expecting customers to thaw them before eating? It's difficult to capture the actual condition of the cake in photographs, but the cream was sliding apart as the cake thawed, the layers were collapsing, the cake itself was soggy and crumbly, and the fruit inside was still partially frozen and ice-cold. What shocked me even more was the employee's attitude. They were so unapologetic and confidently insisted that this was completely normal. They even told me to check with other bakeries because, according to them, all bakeries freeze their cakes and thaw them before selling them, and American bakeries do this even more. I was left speechless by these responses. The employee also proudly explained that mold develops because they don't use preservatives. I found that statement particularly disturbing. The absence of preservatives does not make moldy food acceptable to sell. I honestly don't know whether I was simply unlucky enough to get a cake that hadn't been properly thawed that day, but the entire experience was extremely disappointing. After this experience and the way my concerns were handled, I don't think I will ever buy baked goods from Bosco Bakery again. What a shame. read more

Love this bakery for the connivence and that it's in the mall before you go to Hmart. Smart lol, but they have a wide variety of stuff here and my sister wanted to treat baby girl to some stuff which was so sweet of her. It's spacious they have so many things to choose from, bread, pastries, savory, cakes, small cakes and a little coffee stand so you can get a coffee. I ended up getting the caramel macchiato. It was delicious and then we sat down and ate some of our treats. Love that they have seating so you can enjoy your coffee and snacks before going shopping or just to have. The lady who rang us up and the other employee were both helpful and friendly with a smile also the guy working at the coffee area too. Come check it out I bet they have other locations looks like that kind of a place. But been here before loved it then and still love it now after so long of not coming here. Was nice to hang out with family and spend the day for baby girls birthday. Thank you for excellent customer service and all the delicious treats we got. Next to HMart, I came by because a friend recommended it kind of lol.....Plus, they seemed desperate to have customers since they were announcing their bakery sale with a spokesperson out front. I wanted to support them. But unfortunately, their cookies were horrible. I normally don't like to give such low reviews unless it's a chain restaurant/drink spot. But man, the fact that they even put desiccant packs inside the cookie wrappers. I think I may have accidentally eaten the desiccant too since I was driving and ate it in the dark. It was bad. The cookies tasted days old and were very dry. And I spent almost $50 on like 7 cookies with various flavors because they sounded so good. They advertise the ingredients and flavors to entice you. But beware, they're really bad quality. Never did I think I would taste/eat such bad cookies. Maybe the matcha strawberry one was okay and the fruity pebbles was the best, but not by much. Got macarons ($2 each) & choco bun ($3.95). 4/5 The chocolate macaron was the only 1 that had a strong enough flavor. 2/5 The rest of the macarons lacked flavor. I believe I got pistachio, coffee, & passionfruit. 2/5 The chocolate bun is nowhere near as good as PB's chocolate cream bun or Tous Les Jour's. There isn't enough chocolate in the bun. Absolutely SHOCKED by how rude we were treated. I purchased several pastries from this bakery, and my girls and I sat down so they could enjoy their drinks. Out of nowhere, a staff member came up to us speaking in Korean and repeatedly pointed toward the entrance/exit, clearly telling us to leave. We were completely caught off guard because we had just purchased our pastries from this business. When I held up the bag of pastries to show that we were paying customers, she immediately turned around and walked away. What made this even more shocking was that there were plenty of empty tables available. There was absolutely no reason to approach us the way she did. As paying customers, we should have been treated with basic courtesy and respect, not made to feel unwelcome and singled out. This will be our first and last time. read more

I am writing to express my disappointment with the customer service I received at the bakery today. While I was excited to visit, the experience was negatively affected by the attitude of the staff. I felt that I was spoken to in a rude and dismissive manner, and even heard them talking bad about my group. HORRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT COME HERE. They serve cakes that they made previous days so NOT FRESH. They freeze the cakes that they say need to thaw for at least an hour which makes no sense why would you freeze a cake you "just made". I asked for a nonfrozen cake, they lied and gave me a frozen one which tasted horrible. A bunch of korean ladies who are all LIARS running this place. Very unprofessional as well, they were sucking on a popsicle while talking to me and while I was paying. Since my husband and I were already on the other side of this shopping mall (at Cheesetella in the food court), we decided to check out this bakery to hopefully pick up some baked breads for the week. After browsing and walking around, we ended up purchasing: Custard Cream, $2.95- My husband picked this baked good and enjoyed the custard inside. Milk France, $2.95- This long baked treat is filled with a nice cream, and covered in powdered sugar. The powdered sugar will most likely be messy but is a nice tasty dessert that surprisingly wasn't too sweet with that messy powdered sugar. Sesame Bread, $3- I liked this bread, as it had a nice chew. Inside the bread is empty by the way. Chestnut Sandwich, $4- We picked this loaf for my mother so that she could take it to work. She enjoyed it. Manju, $2.75- My husband took this to work with him so I didn't get a chance to try it. ----------------------------- (Total= $15.65) There is quite a variety of baked goods that you can choose to purchase, each individually packaged. I'm so used to all the Korean bakery chains that I'm a regular at that for some reason I didn't think much of Bosco. I walked by it many times while at the Koreatown Plaza and like Julia Roberts said BIG MISTAKE! HUGE. But now that I've had it several times. I'll never NOT stop again when at the mall. I love picking this and that from their shelves, creating my own personal wonderland of carbs. I like their brownies (both the chocolate and red velvet) with their creative designs and not-too-rich flavors. You'll never go wrong if you get Bosco's Basque cheesecake. It's creamy but light with great flavor. Now let me introduce you o the star of their show. The Hot Dog Bun from Bosco Bakery Cafe is the best I've ever had. No joke! I grew up with these as my go to at Korean bakeries and this was my favorite flavor combination I've ever had. I'm praising this item to the highest! :P Don't overlook Bosco Bakery Cafe like I did. This bakery honestly left me speechless!!! Aclose friend of mine would often visit with her hubby to pick up their favorite pastries and wanted to introduce it to me. It's pastry galore if you ask me. You would definitely walk out of there broke. It's too much to choose from at one time. The customer service is beautiful and everything is fresh. What I love about the location is that it's conveniently in the koreatown plaza. So parking isn't an issue. From cakes to cookies and pies, it's definitely a place for the taste buds. I ended up buying a piece of the orange flavored sponge cake and some 3-layer sponge cake with strawberry jam, walnut, and raisin filling. The cakes themselves were extremely simple which made them quite overpriced. The worst part was the sponge cakes were so dry that I couldn't even swallow without some coffee or tea. Better than the regular staples in Washington like Tour Les Jours and 85 Degree but maybe it's because it's...different as in, we don't have these back home. The hot dog bun was good, the bread was sweet and smooooshy. The sandwich was just okay, really ketchup-y. The croquette was pretty good, tasted like a dumpling filling and it was warm. Honestly, I came by just to get an order of iced green tea to add to my lunch order waiting for me at the food court. It never crossed my mind to bother writing a review about it. But my out-of-towner guests decided to make a stop as we walked out post-lunch grub form the food court. Since I was already there, I decided to look around and see what they had to offer. It's almost to the like of 85deg but their goodies come in different variations. We picked up a few sweet as well as savory breads. They have a pretty good variety. It's pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon. There wasn't a time when there wasn't a line or some sort of a crowd. Whatever we got was pretty good. Ditto the iced green tea. This bakery is located inside the Korean Tow Plaza. There are multiple Korean pastries all individually wrapped. Prices are a little higher than what I'm used to when purchasing at an Asian bakery, they're about $4+ each. It has a small gathering of folks just sitting and eating. It's not the most comfortable setting, pretty cold and the mall is pretty dead. read more

Walked in here when visiting the mall with some friends and it's really a nice bakery that has a ton of options! I wish they had a special that would let you buy maybe like 10 breads cause I wanted to try so many but since we were on a bit of a food mission we were not gonna get many breads. First thing we got was the croquette bread which was sort of filled with a japchae type filling. It was really nice! Next we had some mochi bread with cream cheese in it I believe that was very good as well. The BEST bread we got of the day was probably the garlic toast. So sweet and garlicky. Can't wait to try the other breads or pastries that they offer. The red velvet cookies or cakes caught my eye for sure alongside a lot of the others I took photos of! read more

The service is top notch, if I were to rate just the vibes of the employees it's easily a 10/5 for me. The cozy and somewhat nostalgic atmosphere of the place is so endearing and heartfelt. What a successful mom and pop shop looks like! The food oh my lord, where to start first their cakes are so wonderfully made and beautifully decorated, the drinks are amazing as well. Now onto the real reason I wrote this comment around a few months ago but not that long ago I happened to be here standing in line when I noticed an altercation between a customer and the workers, mind you I'm fluent in Korean and the customer hurls insults at this defenseless girl, who is visibly shaken up after the verbal assault that man left her with. She is shaken up and crying, he has the audacity to leave a hateful comment about the workers, newsflash D H they're quite literally just doing their job. You even insulted her in your comment, are you that much of a low life? Even if she had "given you attitude" your attitude before the altercation wasn't great either... just saying it doesn't take much to be a decent human being, nor does it take much of anything to fix your grammar mistakes. You're mad that you're old and don't have very much time left. Check your tone next time and maybe just maybe they won't give tude back. Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 73/100 The pastries are probably 3 stars, but I docked a star for the price, which is way too high for what they're selling. i got 2 pastries and an ice cream and it came out to almost $20. The oreo cream cake thing in a cup was just average- too much sugar and not enough oreo flavor. My niece loved the rice crispy treat- but you can't really go wrong with that. The italian wedding cookies were average and had an artificial flavor. Selection is big but surprisingly, they don't have many drinks on the menu.
