I want to start off saying that the food was very good and the proprietor was very nice. But I think this place has a major disconnect with the way it operates. The food is excellent and quite upscale. But then the rest of the experience is pretty much like a fast food joint. We ordered appetizers, mains and a side and everything came out way too quickly and in completely random order. So within five minutes literally everything was on our table at once. It didn't feel like things were prepared properly or any care was given to the dining experience and it was difficult to enjoy their food. If I had known this, I probably wouldn't have ordered appetizers because they're not even treated as an appetizer. Now, if this were the kind of place like tapas or a small plates restaurant that would be fine but it's not. We came at an off time where we didn't have to wait, but I can only imagine at prime seating times, counter service would be very backed up with even more pressure to eat quickly and split. And from a diner's perspective, you are not really saving anything with their process - you still tip and the prices are still expensive. I might return for a takeout order because that's the vibe here. But I would never return again for a sit down meal unless they thoroughly changed their system. I wish they would have a system where you sit at a table and order off a QR code, and they brought food out properly. Probably good for people on their lunch hour or people with small kids, but for anyone who wants to enjoy and savor a dining experience, it's a pretty much a fail in that in that regard. And that's a shame because the food is good and should be savored. But the way they have this place organized, it is not set up for diners to do that. read more

Food is fking delicious. Service is on point. Outdoor sitting is spot on for my family with stroller.

Absolutely delicious. Every dish was superior. Very much looking forward to returning.

What a refreshing and tasty delight! We were thoroughly surprised with how delicious everything was. From our appetizers, to the pizza and pasta special, we gravely enjoyed our meals and the freshness of ingredients. We look forward to returning in the summer and having the chance to sit outside while BYOB. read more

Lovely, friendly staff and comfortable casual atmosphere. Back for a third time and the food was a disappointment. Amatriciana was doused in chili and way too much guanciale. It was so overdone with chili, it was inedible. And I like some heat in my food. Same on rigatoni bolognese- way over sauced. Salad of arugula was drenched in dressing- again, borderline edible. The cooks need to dial back on the saucing and seasoning. Less is more. Aim for subtlety and balance. I'll really want this place to succeed and paying attention to the kitchen and the details of cooking is key. read more

Everything I've had so far is great...the Polpo isn't my favorite but don't let that deter you from trying it. Outstanding menu and service. Very nice outdoor seating and plenty of parking. If you're in or near Montclair, this is the place to go.

Fast casual is great! You may order at the counter but the service is great. The food is very good as well. Been there twice and tried a few dishes. The pasta is light and tasty. The pizza crust is crispy and the calamari is crunchy. Recently wet to Italy and the food here is as close you can get. read more

First off they sell Fiji Water which is amazing because I don't like drinking peasant water. The chicken parm sandwich was seriously incredible, like so so so so fresh. I was a doubter, but this place proved me wrong. I also got an appetizer that was bread and prosciutto. It was amazing. Service was great and friendly and the vibe is just immaculate. I will be here daily daily daily. I will probably go bankrupt, it is pricey but worth it. read more

Ample indoor and outdoor eating options. Plenty of parking in the back. The whole menu looks delicious but I had to try the fico prosciutto panuozzi. I was told it would only be on the menu for another week because figs were going out of season. It was delicious! The bread they use for their sandwiches are made with their pizza dough so it was so fluffy and warm. The polpo was super tender and the sauce around it was delicious. Definitely has a kick. I had a great time and look forward to trying more things on the menu but the one thing I would say is that for $18, I do wish the octopus appetizer included more octopus. But still amazing! read more

I overheard people talking at the Farmer's Market about Boschetto. I was hungry, so I drove over and found it, AND there is parking! I love that they call it fine fast casual, a great description. They menu is really good, it was hard for me to decide. I had the fritto misto and the Zozzona. The fritto misto was made to perfection and plentiful. I love orecchiette and the Zozzona fit the bill. Next time I will save room for dessert. read more

Grilled octopus is excellent. The portion is a little smaller than I would like but it was tasty. I would order it again. Amartriciana is very flavorful with a spicy kick. The chili is no joke for those with low spice tolerance (like me) but I love it. Roast pork sandwich - solid. Very generous with the roast pork with broccoli rabe in the roll (and the roll is freshly made to order!) I do wish the cheese is well melted into every part of the pork + brocoli rabe but probably just me nit picking. Gelato - the pistachio flavor is ok. Not the best I have had. Overall, I would recommend checking them out. I will def come back again and try other stuff on the menu. read more

I want to return to Boschetto immediately. From the beautiful interior that transports you to Italy to the absolutely incredible food - there's nothing not to love. the sausage pie was to die for. The flavors were so balanced with the homemade sausage to the lemon rind microplaned on top. I usually don't eat all my crust but I was eating every last crumb. I could not get enough of the spring pea carbonara (a special) - supremely creamy and tasty. The chicken parm sandwich was very tasty - the bread they use is the same dough as their pizza crust and it was so good. no dislikes. This fast-casual-ish Italian spot is a must go! read more

We finally got to try Boschetto for the first time. It's great to see a restaurant where the owner takes an active role in welcoming guests and sharing recommendations. The food is very elevated, not your typical smothered in sauce and cheese American Italian. We felt our meal was full of flavor and were taken back to all of our trips to Italy. Highly recommend the Milanese pork cutlet, perfectly fried. Despite the thicker cut, it was so juicy and tender. The octopus was perfectly grilled and sat on a delicious bed. Don't miss the tuna either. We will be back. BYO makes it a casual night! read more

The red sauce was excellent and so was the service! It was a great location and the cashier was very nice.

As all the reviews state, newest spot on the block. Right across from The Corner. Small yet has plenty of seating for groups (btw 4-8 ) people. No moving of chairs/ tables necessary here. The decor is a nice black and white minimalist vibe which I appreciate. I ordered the mushroom pie (called Funghi) and my friend ordered the polenta with shrimp. After ordering T the counter we were given a number and sat at a table. My friend's order arrived first and she definitely enjoyed it. She said it was quite delicious. My pizza arrived and frankly it's the first time I had mushroom pizza. I wasn't sure what to expect but I like trying new things so I dug in. The pizza was delicious! Very hot as the food is made to order. We sat, ate and chatted for a long time without being rushed to leave. The employees were pleasant and patient when we were deciding up to the time we left. Ryan (or Bryan, I can't recall) introduced himself and was personable. Not sure if he was the owner but he was quite kind and friendly. I enjoyed my time here and would go back again if in the area. read more

Boschetto Restaurant in Montclair, NJ, beautifully bridges the gap between fast-casual convenience and fine dining quality. The ambiance, thoughtfully designed for a cosmopolitan experience, complements the regional Italian cuisine that's both flavorful and fresh. Ordering at the counter and having your food delivered enhances the casual vibe, allowing patrons to savor their meal at their own pace. The BYOB policy adds a personal touch, inviting guests to elevate their dining with their favorite wine. The diverse menu offers a delightful array of pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, and authentic Italian dishes, all crafted with fresh ingredients. Kudos to the owner and staff for their exceptional service, contributing to an overall excellent experience. The convenience of onsite parking and the option for outdoor seating during suitable weather further enrich the visit. Wishing Boschetto Restaurant continued success as it redefines the fast-casual dining scene. We enjoyed: Mussels Fra -Diavalo Gamberi Polenta - Shrimp & Polenta Polpette - Meatballs Polpo - Grilled Octopus (This dish arrived overcooked. You know what that means with Octopus.... Staff returned it to the kitchen and owner immediately came over to apologize and credit us.) Definitely recommend them. Give them a try. Enjoy! @vinopotato read more

I don't think it's possible for there to be better Italian food in Montclair right now. Elevated and high concept. Not really even sure if anyone else in the area is on this level. Was given ample explanation of the menu when ordering at the counter which was incredibly helpful and maybe we got lucky but it seems the timing of ordering/food being prepared/getting a table worked out great for us and others on a pretty busy Saturday evening. The vibe is tight. The food is otherworldly. Had vitello tonnato--beautiful plate with lots of depth--and salsiccia pizza--great dough, lots of subtlety and depth in the flavors there, too. Best bathroom in the state of New Jersey? and there is ample parking which is pretty crazy for Montclair. Can't wait to go back. read more

A few things to consider before going. When you walk in, don't expect to sit down and wait for a server to come to the table. Similar to a pizzería, you must ordér your food at the counter before you sit down. You might want to review the menu before leaving home. Once you make your selection at the counter, you look for an available table and your food will be brought to your table as it's ready which is a different concept. What the restaurant saves on front of the house staff, they more than make up for it on back of the house because the kitchen is cooking up a storm with some authentically delicious Italian food, spectacular perfectly al dente pasta and napolitano style pizza that is sure to make you want to come back. Wow wow wow. Don't forget to bring a good wine to pair with your food because it's BYOB. but there is a liquor store just a few steps away. read more

Hands down the best Italian spot in Essex county. Seems unassuming from the outside, but everything we tried here was fantastic. Start by ordering at the counter and taking a number, and the food is brought out to your table by a member of the friendly waitstaff. I was pleased as punch to have real sheep's milk cheese sprinkled on my amatriciana, which was absolutely delicious. My kids devoured their bucatini as well. Truly a fantastic restaurant. read more
