Open Borries doors and arrive 75 years in the past with an old time western feel, think CM Russell art. The waitresses were very friendly and patient. Eat recipes that have changed very little from this 3rd generation establishment. I wasn't a fan of the hard breadsticks reminded me of those sticks found with a package of dipping cheese. The ribs and steak were amazing, the Italian food is unique to anything I've had before at a restaurant. Expect to pay in the 12 plus range per person. I had the half and half small ravioli and rotini and added one rib for 2.50. I've eaten at the oldest restaurant in the world, El Botin and think this place will make think you were in you grandparents shoes. read more

Yummy! This place has been in business and owned by the same family since 1938. The atmosphere is casual with just a hint of upscale. The artwork and photographs around the restaurant are very nice, especially the western pieces behind the bar. The food is very good, albeit, quite unique. Do not go expecting traditional Italian. Get the minestrone soup and the ravioli (I would skip the spaghetti/pasta as you should save room for the good stuff) with their special brown sauce, which is some sort of a northern Italian sauce with a taste of Montana. It is very wholesome, there's nothing else like it. We were there on a Tuesday and my husband had prime rib special, which was HUGE and oh so good. My mom liked her steamed shrimp dinner with baked potato. Good to know there are some decent healthy options on the menu. Their bread sticks are not like those at the olive garden but we liked them. The service was good. It seems like a lot of the staff have been working there for many years. Be sure to bring your appetite or be prepared to take a to-go box with leftovers, the portions are really large. Good prices for what you get. read more

Sauce taste like it comes out of a can and the pasta taste like the cheap stuff you can buy at Walmart. Basta...this place serves "fake" Italian food and is a joke. Cool bar, nice ambiance, nice décor and good service. The portions are GREAT but the taste just wasn't all that good. The salad dressing thing was cool. They bring out a tray that had four different types of dressings which I liked a lot. If you eat a lot of Italian and like good Italian I wouldn't go here. Oh and the bread sticks were weird they came out hard, not stale but hard! I would call them bread stick crackers. This is one of if not the finest restaurant in Great Falls. It is family owned and operated. They are always consistent. The food tastes the same as it did when I started eating there 40 years ago. I once met the owner and she was very down to earth and kind. I usually get their half and half meal which is half a plate of spaghetti and half raviolis. I'll be honest. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. My family of 8 came yesterday to have a birthday dinner. After waiting over an hour to get our orders taken, and another hour to get our food. We were eventually served sisco nasty tomato sauce on our pasta that had water running out of the bottom from not straining their noodles. I'm by far not a picky eater but I didn't eat a single bite. My dad got the half and half of spaghetti and ravioli and his ravioli was gray not to mention they charge you for substitution of any item or changing anything on your meal. But To charge $15 for nasty spaghetti and charge an extra 4 dollars for two dog food esk meatballs on top that were clearly cooking all day. And $3 for one slice of Walmart frozen Texas toast. I was so upset. The lady working there even heard how upset we were and just stared at us instead of trying to fix anything at all. The best food at the table (out of a group of 8) was a salad that had rotting veggies in it that took over an hour to get to the table. Sad food sad service but a good stiff drink. I chose this establishment to go eat for my BIRTHDAY! I will NEVER eat here again. The service I received was unsatisfactory, I was treated as I was a burden being there as I seen the demeanor of some of the cooks in the back and over heard a few words spoken. The steak I ordered was not cooked as requested. I showed the waitress (who did a great job) and she agreed that it wasn't cooked correctly. Instead of asking for the cooks to whip out and cook me another steak I just simply wanted my bill to be discounted along with speaking to the manager. The manager NEVER made contact with me and my guest just discounted my bill $3.00 and left. Customer service 101 if your patrons have a dispute about something you make contact with them as a manager. I guess customer service isn't priority or at least that night it wasn't. Spoke to the owner and she heard my guest and my complaint as I would expect an owner would but in a round about way she defended her workers. Now I understand people have bad days but your telling me that no one was MATURE enough or a LEADER to just do the right thing for the business, for the owner, or hell for themselves? Unbelievable and will NEVER go back to this poor customer service establishment ever again. The only positive thing to say is the waitress did a good job making a bad experience on my birthday somewhat decent. read more

I love Borries raviolli's. I introduce Borries to everyone I know that will be in the Great Fall's area. Usually people either love em or hate them. Steak is wonderful! Shrimp cocktail "huge". The atmosphere is funky and has not been updated. I love it. It takes me back to a time when our parents would take us there for a very rare dining out expereince. I hope they never change it. It casual and comfortable. Service is great! Typical Montana hospitality. The prices are extremely reasonable. I live 3 1/2 hours from Great Falls, everytime I go through town I stop a grab some to go. read more

I have always heard of this place and wanted to try it. The only problem is now I am upset that I have not been going here all along. Went on Tuesday and had the prime rib special. Favorite spot for real Italian done right for over 70 (I believe) years. Located forever in Black Eagle MT. We went there with our dates after proms. Had to have a half & half - spaghetti/ravioli! They still make the green salad like they have for years. And all homemade salad dressings. Something's never change, thank goodness!! read more

I hate to say that this is the worst italian food ever....my husband and I decided to try it since we are new in town. Expensive and no taste. We miss italian food here in Great Falls. I will say that the staff is nice and the restaurant is clean. Not sure how this place has been in business all these years and Macaroni Grill only lasted one year here. read more

First I admit that Borrie's sauce is an acquired taste. It is not your mother's sauce, but different is not wrong it's just different. Some of the reviews that base their opinions on comparisons to some other place are missing the boat. I like their sauce for it's uniqueness not as competition to the Olive Garden. I usually get the 1/2 and 1/2 as a side to a steak. The raviolis are a little too filling to have straight so half pasta is about right. They could use a freshening but then again, maybe nostalgia in the middle of Black Eagle, an old company town, is part of the experience. I also like the crunchy bread sticks, again crunchy is not bad just not chewy. They are a much better conduit for eating butter than their softer brethren because you can use them directly to scoop up the butter. If you want Olive Garden, go there. If you are open to something more unique, give this Great Falls joint a try. read more

I don't understand the appeal of this place. Yes, you get a lot of food, but you get a lot of food that doesn't taste very good. The spaghetti sauce is strange, mushy, and not very good, the chicken is about what you'd expect from a convenience store, the steaks overpriced, raviolis soggy and strange, and the rest is very average (including the ambiance and service). People rave about the minestrone, but I thought it was the most disgusting thing I ordered. It was mushy, cloudy and overcooked, like most everything else on the menu. I noticed a lot of old people eating here, most of which were extremely overweight. They must like the portion sizes or the mushy texture of the food. I can't see any reason to eat here again. read more

Fantastic service once you FINALLY get seated! I went there with my wife and 3 daughters for Valentine's Day. We had reservations for 5 at 7:30, after waiting in the smallest entryway known to man, they said they could sit us in a table for 4 since we had a baby at 7:45. I asked to see it and basically the hostess' plan was to have my 1 month old daughter's car seat sit on a wall bench in-between our table and another (less than a foot away from a stranger!!!! I said no we have a reservation for 5. To which this witch replied, "well then you can wait!" I was pissed right then, because after we checked in they sat a family of five, maybe they had a reservation, but the group of 10 they sat before us that showed up after did NOT!!! We finally got seated at 8:00, waiting in that entryway for a half hour car seat in hand really rubbed me wrong even more! Once seated the other servers definitely made up for the front door bitch! Service was GREAT, food was exquisite, and we had a great meal. Only problem with the food is not even a big deal, but the prime rib lacked flavor, to which a salt and pepper shaker helped that problem. All in all, I recommend, just hope they get a handle on that hostess! Handle your shit lady reservations exist to be reserved! read more

Ok, first of all, for the tourists that come to visit. Reminder! This is Montana, not New York City or San Francisco! This is not a Mastro's or Spago.This is a family run Italian restaurant that has been around, I think since the 1930's. Not much has changed, and that is what is so charming & what I appreciate about it. The "brown" spaghetti sauce is traditional Northern Italian and is delicious. From what I remember, this is a family recipe that has been passed on for generations? I LOVE the "Half & Half"=half ravioli/half spaghetti. I have also heard the steak is another HIT! I agree the bread sticks ARE stale & that might be something they might want to actually change up? I am a well seasoned traveler & always make it a point to go to the "family-owned" Italian restaurants wherever I go & I appreciate the many different styles of Italian food, and I was pleased! My fiance and I tried out Borries for the first time and both of us were wondering how it is so popular? The decor is dated and in desperate need of an overhaul, the food is similar to what you can get out of a can of Chef Boy R Dee, and prices are outrageous for the food you do get. Fortunately we were allowed to try the brown sauce when we told our server it was the first time there, saved us from ordering Italian. The steak sandwich was pretty decent, but everything else left much to be desired. We can think of several other places to spend our money on diner at, and will be going elsewhere in the future. read more

Raviolis were dried and tasted they were fresh from the freezer, steak was tough and had too much fat, spaghetti was gross! What a big disappointment, used to come when i was younger and had great steaks and spaghetti. This was the worst experience my husband & I had eating in GreatFalls, 1) the drink girl was RUDE!!!!! The other waitress end up bring ing our drinks 2) the people sitting on the table beind us got their food before us ( who by the way came in a half hour after us) 3) a hour & a half had passed & still no food or the slightest refill on drinks. Terrible service. Our server did not offer us a kids menu for my brother's kids, who are 5 and 8. Kids menus include a drink, and do not cost as much as the full portion, so my brother paid more than he should have for their meals. My wife saw a kid's menu/placemat on the table next to us when that family left. After the initial coke I ordered, no one came around and asked if I wanted another. When my dad asked about dessert, the waitress told us it wasn't included in the dinner price, and then walked off. Instead of bringing a dessert menu, she presented us with a check. So after we left there, my wife and I went to a different restaurant for dessert. I don't think the decor has changed much in the last 40 or so years ( We used to go there a lot when I was a kid), but the prices have become steep, the food hit or miss, and the service terrible. We only go there anymore when family comes in from out of town, or my dad wants to go, but when I have a choice, I give this place a wide berth. read more

I visit Great Falls 1-2 times a year. I heard rave reviews so tried this place a year ago and it was awesome. The food was perfect and service was amazing. I went back while visiting this last July. Not sure what happened, maybe the 1st time was luck. We waited 15 minutes at the table for the waitress to show up. She brought water and disappeared. I had to go to the bar to order drinks and brought them back to the table myself. I then had to go find menus for the table. Several of us ordered the steak and lobster when the waitress finally reappeared 20 minutes later. The lobster was so overcooked and chewy we did not end up eating it. We did not see the waitress again for another 15 minutes. The people sitting around us were all commenting on the poor service. The steaks were cooked good, but half of it consisted of grizzle and fat. For the price we paid to eat there (our bill was over $300) I certainly would expect better service and food. After that bad experience, someone recommended Jakers. I have been there 3 times now and the food and service have been outstanding every time. I would recommend Jakers in Great Falls hands down over Borries. read more
