Needed a plain pie in a hurry and wanted to eat outside with the kids. The staff was accommodating after some questioning of whether I wanted table service or was I sure I didn't want to eat inside. The pizza was decent and everyone gobbled it up. Just wish I wasn't made to feel weird for asking for a pizza and to sit outside. I get this place is a family restaurant and there was even a shower going on inside which looked very nice, but I didn't think my request was outrageous. The pizza was ok. Barstool had rated their pizza so I had expected it to be good, but it tasted like a failed attempt of NY style pizza in a florida pizzeria. As i said is was ok, not horrible, but not something i would go back for. The pasta was delicious. I loved the vodka rigatoni and the tortellini alfredo. The pasta for two plate was a great value. The service was not good though. We asked for refill of our empty waters when the bread was brought out. We didn't receive refills until the bill was brought out. I carried a water bottle usually and the waitress saw me pouring water out of my water bottle into the glasses among the 3 of us and she just stared. Food was just satisfactory. Excepted good Italian food in Long Island as we were visiting for a game. The restaurant was open late. The décor is older with regular wood tables and paintings on the walls. The reception was friendly and the service was good. Prices were mid-budget range. We ordered Spaghetti with meatballs, calamari, Garlic bread, Three types of pasta, pizza, and Shrimp appetizer. The bread was fresh, warm and tasty. The pasta and meatball dishes were on the bland side. The Calamari cannot be compared to what you get at Clyde's. The breading seemed like the Calamari was not freshly made. I ordered a personal pie. When I got there, the pizza chef told me that he made it a little too well done and had a new one in the oven for me. Most places would have just given me the burnt one and not cared. This shows that Borrelli's cares about customer service as much as the quality of their food. I was very impressed! read more

We've been to Borrelli's 3X now this last time we decided to try their Pizza . What a pleasant surprise. I'm originally from the pizza capital of the world, Brooklyn of course LOL. Always pass this place on Hempstead turnpike, decided to finally try it out last night. Hostess was welcoming. We sat down and right away noticed that our booth wasn't cleaned, the booth had crumbs all over and the table had split salt on it. We ordered our drinks and appetizer which were very good (rice balls) and while we were waiting for our server to come back we realized that there were ants EVERYWHERE on the floor. Under our table, next to our table I had one on my leg. Chicken parm with a side of penne vodka was pretty good! Been going to Borrellis since early 1980s. Of course prices have gone up but the portion sizes have become so small the pricing now suggests fine dining. Borellis is not fine dining Also, last time I was there,no one was at the register and there were no menus so I walked around looking for a menu (none at reister or hostess area). Okay, is the perfect way to describe this place. Nothing about it is terrible, or fantastic. It's just overall very average. Not much ambiance to speak of. It's odd to think this place has been around so long when it's just as average as it is. The service is inconsistent, as is their food. You can either have quick service, or be waiting awhile. The food can either be great, or.... not so great. It's all just hit or miss at any given time. I am being generous giving this place 3 stars. The pizza & food is average at best, maybe like something you would get at a food court or a frozen pizza from the supermarket. Strangely enough, the pizza is smaller than it used to be. The best part about this place is the bread basket. I hate to see this place go down so hard, used to be my favorite. First time traveling to this area for work and figured I needed to try the NY Italian scene. I have neighbors and friends from NY and all they do is rave about how good it is. Well...... I have attached a photo of the Pene ala vodka. As you can see the poor pene is drowning! Not sure if this is the NY style or just here, but I have never had pasta in a pool of sauce. The food was ok but way to much sauce and they don't even give you bread to try and soak some of this up. I hear the pizza is good here per the Bar Stool crew but the pasta was a little to be desired. I'm here a couple nights and certainly won't be running back for seconds. But the cannoli was very good. Wish I got the larger one since I didn't enjoy the pasta. read more

The staff was very nice but the place is a wreck. The bathrooms smell, the menus are sticky and dirty, the overall look and feel is 1960. The bread was fresh and delicious but it stops there. The calamari was a bag of thick rubber bands. The chicken franchise, the chicken was rubbery and the sauce was full of flour. The egg plant and red sauce had no flavor, none. Was here for a family function in the back room. The food was very good and was buffet style. My favorites were the chicken parm , sausage and peppers and the house salad which had salami in it. They made me a whiskey sour which was good and the coffee with dessert was also good. Overall the place is solid, as is the Staff. The people working were very nice and accommodating. One of my relatives has a bad dairy allergy and they whipped something up for her really quickly that she enjoyed. Good, solid Italian food, nice staff. I had passed by this place for YEARS. It's right by Nassau Coliseum and right on Hempstead Tpke. yet I never had a reason to visit until recently. We came here after a baptism and were seated almost immediately (to be fair it was 3PM on a Sunday so not exactly dinnertime). The staff went above and beyond to take care of all our needs and we were exceptionally grateful for that. The food here is okay. It's not bad by any means but it's not great. I had the chicken francase and like I said, it was just okay. My boyfriend had the lobster raviloi and enjoyed his food. We were both definitely full once all was said and done but I wouldn't go out of my way to particularly come back here. Beer selection is just okay too but there's definitely something for everyone. read more

I returned to this restaurant after 36 yrs. While I attended Hofstra in the very early 80s this was the spot my family would eat. My parents and siblings would enjoy the meal after traveling 8 hrs. We stop today after my son accepted his offer to attend Hofstra. Back then I could eat anything now it's only Gluten Free for me. My family I thought would love the Lasagna and Pizza and I would deal. Was I wrong! I had a great dish of GF pasta. The sauce was wonderful (Norcina) and the GF pasta as good as any I have had in Italy. I also treated myself with the Gluten Free pizza as bread. What that you say. Our first visit to Borrelli's came following an arduous moving day. We were exhausted and starving but eager to try this place we had noticed driving by -- family owned; since 1955 -- heck yes! We had three courses: on the appetizer, they struck out; entrée was an extra base hit, and dessert was a home run. (Yes I've been watching the World Series.) Service, unfortunately, was only fair. We may have rattled our waiter a little because as soon as he arrived, we asked him to put in an appetizer right away without waiting for him to ask for our beverage order. I did have a question on the app choices, and he seemed uninformed and unable to express that he would be pleased to find the answer for me. So we went with the safer course for a fried calamari app. As soon as it arrived, we knew there was gonna be trouble because they were a deep, deep brown meaning probably overcooked. Very much overcooked. The waiter did not return for a while and we actually chewed and chewed and chewed and consumed some of it because we were so very hungry. Finally we got to tell him it was way overdone and he only asked if he should take it away, not if we wanted it remade. Since the entrees were on the way we said take it away and it was deleted from the bill. Entrees were Lobster Ravioli and Veal Francese. Spectacular, flavorful, generously sauced but not with a heavy feeling. The lemony Francese sauce was divine. The lobster ravioli had plenty of nice big chunks of lobster. Mmmmmm. Pacing myself, I wanted to soak up some of each of the wonderful sauces with Italian bread when I realized....we were never brought any. Waved down another server and inquired. He acknowledged we should have gotten bread and a few minutes later, our original server arrived with some. Dessert -- Tiramisu. A bit of heaven on your plate. Creamy texture and perfect flavor, a nice big square slice accented with dollops of fresh whip cream at the corners. Melted on my tongue and although I was full by then, would have easily eaten another slice. Or two. Sooooo... maybe we just hit a day with some problems in the kitchen combined with a new waiter not yet fully trained...? We will be returning, and hoping for a positive update. read more

I am a very strong believer in giving second chances. So, being that my plans today were to do some Miniature Golfing with my girls and Borrelli's was directly across the street from the park, I decided to try them again for lunch. Well, I'm happy to write this time around that there were no problems. However, I am going to have say that there definitely is a message on the menu regarding the Bread Basket. I didn't see it on my lunch menu so I boldly asked the waitress "someone told me they saw something on your menu once about having to ask for a bread basket, is there one?" Her reply was "YES, but it's on the dinner menu and baskets are given when only entrees are ordered, not pizza" And with that, she came out with a nice warm bread basket for our table. I played it safe today and ordered the House Salad and Pasta Fagioli for myself, Baked Ziti (be sure to ask for the Ricotta Cheese) and Mozzarella Sticks for my girls. Everything was good. I can't rave about our meal because of what was ordered, I don't think any of these dishes could be made to be extraordinary, but I can say we did had a very nice lunch. Been coming here for years and unfortunately the food has been on the decline. The service and atmosphere are great, however the food has been on a disappointing down slope. Came here with a party of 6 the other day on a friday. Didnt have reservations but got sat right away. Ordered 2 pizzas and a caesar salad to start. The pizza was average, sauce was very bland and the dough was also disappointing. Salad was good, but like i said we got a caesar salad which is pretty basic. For my meal i got the veal parm. Veal was cookes well and tasted pretty good. However the sauce was bland like the pizza sauce. As stated earlier the service was great, special shout out to the bartender trish who is awesome. Overall at this point im ganna say a pretty average Italian restaurant/pizza spot. Which is disappointing to say considering this place was 5 star worthy 4-5 years ago. read more

Okay, after seeing el Presidente's 8.1 review of their pizza I got very excited. We ordered a large pie and a large Sicilian pie ( I asked if the Sicilian was square or round the woman on the phone told me square (which I prefer), if I knew the Sicilian was round I would not have ordered it. The pizza is not good I really wanted to like this place but alas i did not. In Borrelli's defense we also ordered heroes. The heroes while pricey were excellent, and worth the price. We were there around 8:30 on a Saturday night. Sat at the bar to have a drink and a couple of appetizers. We had stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams and rice balls. The mushrooms were like rubber and the baked clams were just cheese in a clam shell and not very good. The rice balls ok. I felt like these were left over from a party and microwaved and brought out to us. How this place is still there with all the great italian food on LI is beyond me. "Borrelli's Italian Restaurant" is not a Pizzeria, they are a Italian Restaurant. Just wanted to make that clear. It is a great dining experience for the entire family. I pulled up to the large parking lot and couldn't believe how colorful the outside of the building looked. It was nice to see such brave choices used to bring a positive vibe. Heading in I was equally impressed. The place was immaculate and big. It was really spacious. I had went to the counter to place my order when I met with the most wonderful woman there. She was friendly and extremely professional. She talked to me as if I was her best friend and it made me feel great. The atmosphere in the place also made me feel comfortable, that and the classic music playing in the background. I saw a gentleman walk in to the place not to order food, but to have a conversation with the owner. Can you believe that. The lady I was talking to told me the rich history of the restaurant. It's been around for 63 years, that longer then I've been alive! She also told me they cater for parties up to one hundred people. Nice for a graduation or surprise party. They also offer karaoke and live music on Thursday's so they offer a excellent time for groups. Only negative was they had a ten dollar spending limit, but I was over the limit so I didn't need cash. They don't do slices. So I got a personal pie and waited patiently for it. But once I smelled what they had cooking I became a little impatient. I wanted to know what this place was about. I soon found out when my boxed pizza came out. It was hot and fresh. I sat down and just took a minute to admire such beauty. It was like looking at a woman for the first time, or the first time you learned how to ride a bike. I mean it was special. When I grabbed the first slice I knew I was in trouble because I understood that this wasn't going to end well for the pie. The relationship ended quickly, but the memory of the taste would last forever. I was sold on that crunchy crust, the juicy chicken and the side of blue cheese they gave me. It was more then I could handle. I even thought about getting ice cream, which they do offer as well. Everything about this place was amazing. The food, atmosphere and staff were excellent. My family took me here for dinner when I was visiting last weekend. I currently live in Florida, so when I'm back up on Long Island visiting bagels and Italian food are a must. My uncle described Borrelli's as "sloppy Italian food" which I loved. It wasn't messy, but this isn't the type of place where you'll get gourmet food, small plates, and expensive prices. This was good, old fashioned, Italian food. I had the stuffed shells and boy we were they stuffed! So much cheese-it was wonderful.
