He analyzes…read moreall my ailments and conditions and makes recommendations as to whether I should have a second opinion or notify my oncologist+ if something different shows up on my blood tests. In speaking with other patients in the office everyone has the same opinion that he is the best and takes time with each and every one of us to answer questions or make suggestions. I couldn't live without Dr. Pat Chira. He is the best! Very kind, considerate, caring and has a gentle persona. I could write a book about him and his brother, Dominic, who sometimes acts as a substitute doctor in his absences.

I've been a patient of Dr. Dominic Chira's for almost 10 years. In the times I have dealt with him…read moreas being my PCP, I have never ever felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable as I have, in these past 3 weeks of seeing him. I have been dealing with a major back issue and I patiently waited to be scheduled to see Dr. Chira. I understand during COVID-19 times now, that everything can be more slow-paced and a health risk; however, I felt as if I was put on the back burner. I had to head to the ER in order for myself to get any type of doctor's note for my job. I did not feel comfortable going back to work in my condition and wanted to get answers! A week and a half later, I finally did see Dr. Chira, and there was still no proper diagnosis. I, myself, recommended to get a MRI done to get a better understanding of what's going on with my back. Also, to see what issues are going on. I had 1 more follow-up appointment with Dr. Chira after that; that being after my MRI was done and results were in. Still no clear-cut answers from him. I had to continually repeat with him what medications I am on; as well as what I have been doing since my back injury. It's as if he didn't remember anything I had told him prior? Not to mention Dr. Chira explicitly wanted me to call my pharmacy to "double-check" what medications I am on so there is no "confusion." I was dumbfounded and couldn't believe my PCP was not believing me. Dr. Chira handled my diagnosis with no clear-cut answers. I had to bring up physical therapy as an option. I expressed concern and interest in Short Term Disability because my back injury is going to take a lot more time that I had imagined apparently. I am looking out for the wealth fare of my job! Dr. Chira cringed at my vocal expression with STD! Why? I was looking for guidance and reassurance. I was looking for help and concern. All I received was disconnect and lack of empathy. Lastly, when Dr. Chira brought up what I do for work, he mentioned maybe I should find another job? How can I make that assumption when I need to make sure and take care of my issue first. Especially before I can decided anything like that? He was not helping me with responses such as that! Not to mention one of his office receptionists, a Miss Stacey. The very few times I spoke with her over the phone in these last 3 weeks, was, only a complete disregard for my feelings and disrespectfulness. I am finding a new PCP and have no intention of going back to Dr. Chira. He failed me as my PCP; and that's saying a lot for me considering I had been seeing him for almost 10 years. Shame on you Dr. Chira!

As a 37 year old woman, I can tell you that I've always known I wanted children. However, I didn't…read moreimagine being single in my late 30's...so after almost 2 years of going back and forth with myself, I finally decided to give my future-self the best chance at having a biological child and I started the process to freeze my eggs. Fertility is personal and emotional and scary but choosing the right doctor makes ALL the difference. The best decision I made was choosing Dr. Jan Shifren at Newton Wellesley Hospital. At my initial assessment, Dr. Shifren walked me through every single step of the process and answered all the questions I could come up with. It only takes a quick google search to learn she's internationally recognized as one of the top physicians in her field of expertise and she's been published in more journals than I could count. What a google search doesn't tell you is how truly wonderful she is as a person. Dr. Shifren is so thoughtful, knowledgeable, transparent, upfront and honest. I never felt rushed at our appointments (virtual and in-person) and Dr. Shifren was by my side, from start to finish. She has a truly incredible team of nurses, technicians and administrators who keep you feeling positive throughout the journey and take great care of you at each appointment. After meeting with Dr. Shifren, I worked with her billing department to understand all the financial costs associated with the procedure and they gave me a very easy to understand price breakdown. A few months after our initial appointment it was March of 2022, and I was ready to go. At that time I started working very closely with Zuzana, her incredible nurse who was by my side for the next 2 weeks walking me through the process. Zuzana and her colleagues were very quick to respond to my emails with questions or concerns and always had all the answers right away. Once the process begins, you are going into their office at NWH anywhere from 2-4 times a week for blood draws and ultrasounds. All the ultrasound technicians are great and be sure to get your blood drawn by Grace, she will make your day every time you see her. I felt really taken care of on an emotional and physical level which is what you want and what you need to get through this process. My patient experience could not have been any better and I would highly recommend choosing Dr. Shifren and her team at NWH if you are looking into freezing your eggs. -Melissa

I saw Dr. Sakamuri for some irregular bleeding, she suggested I go back on birth control to stop…read morethe bleeding. when I told her I was not willing to because the side effects were too severe in the past, she was super rude and judgmental and said I "might as well be on prenatal vitamins" even though she knew I had no intention of getting pregnant. Perhaps there isn't another known solution for my irregular bleeding, but it's unacceptable to shame a patient like that. Like any drug, Birth control has side effects and women deserve to know the full truth so they can make educated choices on their own. Not be shamed or scared by their health care providers without proper information. Perhaps Sakamuri only cares to prescribe medications so she can cut herself a check. It's truly sad that myself and other women have to face this type of judgement in a space that is supposed to be safe for everyone to make informed decisions about their own bodies.

He also asks about your health in general, just because he wants to get an overall picture -- which I really appreciate. He also is really good about getting back to you when you call. When I was pregnant, he was very supportive and used a common sense approach to dos & don'ts during pregnancy (e.g. caffeine isn't good, but for me having one cup of coffee/day was ok). I was also one of those people who didn't need to have my hand held during every step of the pregnancy, so I liked his matter-of-fact attitude about pregnancy. But I get the sense that he'd hold your hand if you needed it. He works out of B&W Hospital, and all the nurses on the delivery floor just loved him -- I got the sense they really liked working with him. But most importantly, he genuinely cares about his patients. For example, after I delivered my daughter, I experienced some pain after I'd been discharged. I called in the evening, and the doctor on call told me to come into the ER or call Dr. Katz during office hours. I figured I'd wait until the morning. But then Dr. Katz CALLED ME in the morning to ask what was going on. I explained the situation, and he said, "Ok, come in today when you can." "What time should I come?" "Whenever. I'll squeeze you in when you get here." I never thought I'd be so comfortable with a male OB/GYN, but Dr. Katz really is phenomenal.
