I called to schedule a first pregnancy appointment with Dr. Okamura. The office staff informed me that she likes to review new patient requests herself, and decide based on her schedule and patient information whether to take on the patient. They sent her an email with my information, and told me to expect a response the next day. I never received a response. I called every day for a week asking for an update, and every day the answer was that she hasn't gotten around to her email yet. Eventually, I called another practice that scheduled me *on the spot* for an 8 week ultrasound the following week, and an 11 week in office visit with an award winning highly regarded doctor. read more

I can't say anything about the doctor, because when I have the problem, I was unable to get an appointment with her. When I scheduled a appointment, it was postponed to another day without anyone telling me about it. The second time I came for an appointment, but they told me that my visit was not on that day, but on some other day 2 weeks later, although the letter from them indicated the time and date of the day when I came to them and no I never received any other letter.Nobody wants to solve the problem, the staff turns around and leaves. Terrible management. I waited in pain for 2 weeks, but today my appointment was rescheduled again. Managers don't send reminders. How important it is for a woman to solve her pain problem in a short time, and not wait 2 weeks and it's not a fact that you'll see a doctor. They will schedule an appointment for you and you will never know until they call you and tell you that you missed your appointment. Complete mess. read more

Simply put, Dr. Okamura is a dream. She is intelligent, reassuring, kindhearted, & warm She cared for me through my first pregnancy & I could not have asked for a better doctor. She answered my every question & took her time with me during each visit. I never felt rushed, but I also was seen promptly at each appointment. Another doctor delivered my baby because it was off hours, but Dr. Okamura visited and checked on us both within 24 hours of delivery. I also needed doctor's notes for a few different things during my pregnancy. The office staff promptly fulfilled each request & always seemed happy to do so. I might have to move back to Boston when I get pregnant again just so she can be my OB! Can't recommend her enough. read more

I can't actually review Dr. Okamura as a physician because her practice wasn't able to take me on as a new patient - but she called me personally to let me know, asked questions about me to learn more about my OB needs, recommended a colleague who she thought would be a good fit, and then called her colleague to pass along my info and have them get me into their system right away. I wish I could give Kyoko 10 stars - she is that amazing! I heard about Kyoko from a doctor friend of mine when I was pregnant. Apparently, she is the OB/GYN of choice for all the doctors and nurses who work at Beth Israel! After having Kyoko guide me through pregnancy and labor, I understand why. She is incredible. Kyoko has a very effervescent personality. She is SO warm and knowledgeable. You want to be her friend. She has empathy in spades and really takes the time to get to know you and make you feel comfortable. I was fortunate enough to have her be the on-call attending the day I gave birth. I cannot tell you how good it felt to have her there with me. She was such a calming presence. Even when I had complications during the labor, my husband and I always felt like we were in the best of hands. We are so fortunate that the first person our daughter met in this world was Kyoko. In addition, her office was such a breeze to work with. They scheduled all of my appointments in one phone call. Yuna is such a sweetheart and everyone else is very nice and friendly. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. Even if I did, it was a pleasure to be there. There are comfortable couches, a full tea service (with actual tea cups!), biscotti, and fruit snacks. The bathroom even has L'Occitane hand creams! It's like a spa for pregnant women. If you live in the Boston area, I cannot recommend Kyoko enough! She is the very best there is. read more

Dr. Okamura and her team have been absolutely wonderful to work with. She always calls back when I have questions (and I have a lot!) and her nurses and front desk are very caring and professional, as well. So far, the staff at the front desk at Dr. Okamura's office is not great. They were supposed to get back to me about an issue after speaking with my insurance. It was a time-sensitive issue, as the path my pregnancy takes depends on this. After the 4th business day of not hearing back from them, I finally called, and after being put on hold for awhile, they got back to me. They had in fact been able to get in touch with my insurance, but neglected to call me back to tell me the resolution. This actually really upset me, because they indicated that they would call me back when they got the answer. I'm actually not sure whether Jacqueline had lied about getting in touch with my insurance and had just called my insurance and spoke to them briefly while I was on hold. The answer I got was, "I'm not sure. You should call your insurance company yourself to see if you're covered." I would think that the doctor's office and the insurance company would be the best ones to have the conversation. I, as a non-medical professional, do not know what tests/procedures I need, nor do I know the necessary terms to have the appropriate conversation. Jacqueline told me that it was best that I pay for services out of pocket, and not go through insurance, but I didn't get a clear/good answer as to why. I'm disappointed. I had decided to come here even though the location is out of the way because of the great reviews that Dr. Okamura has. I will meet Dr. Okamura at my next appointment. I really hope that having her as my OB will make up for my experience thus far. [edit] After figuring out my insurance, I am very doubtful that anyone from the doctor's office actually spoke to my insurance. I also don't think Jacqueline knows how deductibles work. When I spoke to Jacqueline, she told me that my insurance probably does cover the genetic testing that I will need, but that I have a $400 deductible that it seems like I haven't met yet, so if I go through insurance, my cost would be $400 - $1,400. The cost of the testing, without going through my insurance, would be $350. She told me to not go through insurance. In my head, I was thinking, "Shouldn't I just go through insurance, because then I'd be $50 away from meeting my deductible. Also, I'm having a baby. I'm sure I'll meet my deductible by the end of the year." But, as it turns out, I HAD met my deductible for the year. Further proof that Jacqueline was just making up answers as she went along. She also implied the cost of the tests would be $400 - $1,400. I have no idea how much the tests are, but those amounts are actually my deductible and my max out of pocket expense. If I had listened to her, I would have had to pay my max out-of-pocket expense of $1,400, as well as an additional $350 for the genetic testing. By going through my insurance, I will pay $1,400. If they had not reached out to my insurance yet,I would prefer that they tell me so, rather than lie or make up answers. It was really stressful trying to get answers out of her, because she wouldn't commit to anything and after the whole conversation, she told me to call my insurance myself. If you are calling for anything other than to make appointments, try to speak to someone else. read more

Dr. Okamura is amazing. I went to see her for a routine exam and check up. She made me feel so comfortable that I was able to confide in her with matters I'd never felt okay discussing with others. Her empathy and understanding is the best of any of the OB/GYN's I have been to before. read more

Dr. Okamura is the most wonderful OB-GYN. She and her nurse Amanda and her office manager Yuna are the most caring, patient and helpful health care professionals. They were such great support during my first pregnancy! Dr. Okamura came to see me and the baby in the hospital several times. Dr Okamura is the best! She led my entire pregnancy. First pregnancy, so I was always worried about something. She always comforted me, answered all my one million questions and made me feel calm. All the visits were easy and the treatment was great. Dr Okamura is very experienced and knowledgeable. I felt like my baby and I were in good hands. The office is very nice: comfy couches in the waiting area, delicious tea and snacks. Also, this is probably not important, but L'Occitaine lotions in the bathroom always contributed to the good mood :) Front desk staff very nice as well.The only drawback: they do lab work through Quest Diagnostics, and I had to fight with Quest several times as they submitted insurance claims as routine lab work instead of pregnancy related (of course, it was declined) and then billed me for more than $3,000. After a month or so of fighting with Quest, I finally got them to re-submit the claims with correct code. After that I asked Dr Okamura to send my tests to the other lab (I think it was BI lab). Other than that, everything is great, and I totally recommend Dr Okamura! read more

I've never written reviews before, but after going to Dr. Okamura's practice I felt compelled! The office is so welcoming, organized, and friendly. The front desk staff were all very nice and helpful, and the nurse who did my intake was great. I saw Tracie, the nurse practitioner, and she was SO great! As a new patient she took her time and was really thorough going through my health history. She was so sweet and has awesome bedside manner, she put me so at ease even though I was a bit nervous. The appointment lasted at least 30 if not 40 minutes, which I appreciated so much since at some offices you do feel a bit rushed out the door. Absolutely see Tracie if you can! read more

I just recently moved to Boston and went Dr. Okamura becasue she was taking new patients and her office was very easy to get to (steps from the green line or if you choose to drive there is pretty good street parking). I can't say enough about her. I immediately felt at ease and that I could ask her anything. She has the perfect balance of warmth and professionalism. She is even fluent in Japanese! As someone 20 years old, far away from home, and just starting to independently figure out how medical care and insurance works, I can not give Dr. Okamura or Dr. Mann enough stars. Going to an OB-GYN for the first time is always made out to be an intimidating, uncomfortable experience. However, I had the pleasure of working with Dr Mann for my first appointment (a consultation/discussion about birth control options and health), and Dr. Okamura for my procedure and exam. Both Dr. Mann and Dr. Okamura not only made me feel comfortable and well-informed about female health as well as different birth control methods, but empowered as a young woman. I can't recommend them enough. Not to mention that their office was equally friendly and informative, which I'm extremely thankful for, given that I had very many dumb questions about insurance! I love everyone I've worked with at this office, and look forward to being in great hands as long as I'm living in the Boston area. read more
