The PA I saw was very knowledgeable and experienced and she helped me feel comfortable and safe during the IUD insertion and the pelvic exam. It was very quick as well which I appreciated. Absolutely done with this place. I've been looking to get a prescription for antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis (BV) and it's infuriating how inaccessible it is. All of the appointments are over a week out, which is a nightmare when you have an INFECTION that is bothering you on a daily basis. I finally got an appointment at this planned parenthood which is 90 minutes away from me. I asked if we could do telehealth but they said no. I ended up driving over 2 hours to the location due to traffic, and I was late, missing the grace period by 5 minutes. When I arrived, they told me they couldn't see me. I honestly cried. It was so frustrating. BV meds are so inaccessible, I'm in pain, it's infuriating. A manager said that they book the appointments for an hour, so that left forty minutes for them to see me and perform a service that takes 60 seconds. I'm so disappointed and saddened by this experience and the inaccessibility of care. read more

I can not say enough great things about this clinic. I went here 15 years ago when I was 19 moved away and now at 38 I came back and they are just as amazing. Starting with the two kind and helpful security guards (thank you!!) to the administration to the health care providers I've never had such a pleasant experience. Everyone is sensitive, kind, and super informative. I did not feel rushed or like I was just another patient. Besides the decrepit old women outside harassing everyone walking in to the clinic to CHOOSE LIFE (sorry had to flip them off) I can't recommend this clinic enough. Génesis P. is the supervisor here but she struggled remembering the financial department's extension number and was so quick to push rescheduling as soon as we encountered an issue. The front desk people were far more patient and far less redundant. Génesis seems to have broken HIPAA when providing first and last names, a member id and group number of an individual who was incorrectly linked to my medical records. I came earlier this Nov saying that their insurance information's inaccurate and they failed to resolve the problem multiple times and had me who is sick call three different numbers in order to fix their blunder. She nonstop said that there's no way she could help call or help fix this glitch that she should have apologized for; instead, she ingenuinely said she understands. She mumbles when she talks and gave off the coldest demeanor. I truly recommend a new supervisor as soon as possible. She's the reason I wish I could give 0 as opposed to 1 star. read more

You've come to the right place. I wanted to write this review because all the reviews out there are scary as hell when you're trying to decide the right place to have an abortion. The answer is here. People who have a great experience rarely write these reviews - you're typically only going to see the horror stories online so hopefully this review can help one other scared Google-crazy girl like me. I'm 26 y/o female (under an alias name) and I accidentally got pregnant with my long term partner and knew it wasn't my time to be a mother/for us to start our family. I booked my appointment within the same week we decided this is what we wanted to do. Call if you can (I was discouraged that online it looked like they couldn't take me for weeks but they had openings) They let me know the whole process door to door would likely take 2-3 hours. There were only a few protesters at the door (honestly they were lazy- they didn't say anything- just a couple old dudes holding crosses/ a couple signs.. I just avoided eye contact) and the nicest PP escorts scoot you in the door. You're greeted by the kindest security guards who gently go through your things and have you walk through a metal detector and let you in the locked door to check into the clinic. They do the appointment in increments. First check in, then ultrasound, then a 1:1 info session, then procedure or medication (that's what it was for me anyway). I probably only ever waited 15 minutes in between the increments and I never felt like I was actually waiting. I got there at 1045am and was out by 1pm! All the medical assistants were actual saints (come at me religious "pro-life" folk) they made me feel SO comfortable and so supported and empowered that I was making the right choice for myself. Honestly, we were vibing, I feel like they would all be my friends. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff- they are warm, friendly, intelligent and understanding. Overall, this was a 11/10 experience for what I thought was going to be the most horrible day of my life (especially because of COVID you still can't have anyone else come in the building) was actually very calming and relieving. If you need an abortion and you want a supportive non-judgmental experience - go to planned parenthood (esp here @ the Boston location) I traveled an hour and a half to not go to a creepy local women's health center per the recommendation of my friend and I'm SO grateful I made the trip and came here. Just got home from my IUD insertion here, so maybe it's the drugs they gave me (hehe), but I had a wonderful experience here. Everyone was so kind and welcoming and nurturing, from the escort who opened the door for me, to the security guard, receptionist...and of course the PCAs and doctor and nurses. They will take care of you. I've had a couple IUD insertions prior, and I was concerned with the pain (it was really bad for me)...so I opted for the moderate sedation (versed and fentanyl, I believe). The pain was minimal, and it helped that the assistant chatted with me the whole time. Everyone was so receptive and validating. Exactly the way a women's health center should be. Afterwards they wheeled me into the recovery room and I got snacks and a heated blanket. I said "i feel like a princess!" and the nurse said "you ARE a princess!"...it just feels great to be around kind, caring women (and men - the security guards) especially during an anxiety-inducing procedure. The wait time was long but I think that's to be expected when the care is so thorough. Just something to keep in mind if you have plans after your appointment. My appointment was at 10 and I ended up leaving about 2. Thanks to everyone who works here! You are all making a difference. read more

Today's visit to the PP office on Comm ave may have put an end to my search for a new ob-gyn! Thank goodness! After having some annoying issues with my old doctor, I was on the hunt for a new one that wouldn't make me wait months for an appointment. This clinic has walk-in hours, and when I called yesterday and got the deets, I was told I could always sign up for a slot and come back if the wait would be long. I went in this morning around 10 and was screened by a receptionist almost instantly. She gave me paperwork and had me sit down, and I was called in for an appointment in under five minutes- not sure if everyone is that lucky. Inside of an hour, I had a new prescription, my concerns about any weird side effects from the old one were abated, I found out I was HIV-negative (figured I ought to take the test), and I found a caring staff that made me feel way better about my body than my last spacey ob-gyn. My appointment was at 11am I waited over an hour to get called it. Mind you there were people here that came after me and got called in first 0 organization if you ever come here make sure you clear you're whole day. They will take more than an hour to just call you're name and make you sit And wait again. Polite staff but very very long waiting time. If I make my appointment for 11am I expect to be seen at 11am not an hour and a half after my scheduled appointment. If that's the case they should just do walk-in only this is ridiculous. read more

Providing you with all the information you need. I can still feel the love from everyone. Makes me want to cry of happiness and give everyone a hug. I got a virtual consult with PPLM. It was so great. I have never had such a good experience in care! Everyone that I interacted with was compassionate and considerate. They made sure I felt safe, even checking in about whether they should call under a different name (in case someone else had access to my phone). The provider that I saw was also great. She not only got me the prescription that I needed, but she checked in regarding an issue I had had in the past and made sure I was doing okay and had access to resources. While visiting home I needed an appointment for birth control... All the GYN's I tried to see were booked and just didn't work in my short time frame. My sister told me to try planned parenthood. I called and they had an appointment the very same day! We went in and just a warning to the ladies you WILL have to deal with some anti abortion people out front and they can be very pushy! My sister accompanied me the appointment and she told one protester that everyone who visits PPH isn't coming for an abortion and he yelled back... YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A HEARTBEAT IN THERE! it was harsh! I would feel bad for anyone going in for those services, to have to deal with that type of harassment during a difficult time so please prepare yourself. One good thing is that once your in the building it's very secure, the security greets you and will take you through a medical detector. Once you get inside it's a very calm and quiet atmosphere. I signed in and gave the receptionist my insurance card and sat down after she processed everything. Once it was time for my appointment I was warmly greeted by the medical assistant who took me to the back and gave me instructions, she took me to take my blood and the women who did that was extremely pleasant. Once that was done the Doctor came in and we talked about my procedure, she told me what to expect and wanted to make sure I was well informed. I got the copper IUD named paraguard. I don't like hormones so I opted for this. The doctor made me so comfortable throughout the entire process. I have never had children so the insertion was very painful! The doctor was nice enough to keep speaking to me while she did the entire procedure to take my mind off of what I was feeling. After about ten minutes I was done. When I tell you I've never been treated better at any medical center I mean it! The staff at PPH are absolutely amazing!!! Thank you ladies for making such a painful procedure a better experience with your professional and warm customer service. FYI - fast forward two months later and my IUD hasn't given me any problems. Nothing but good things to say about this clinic, and I have been using them for my GYN services ever since they were over on Beacon St. and I was a teenager trying not to get pregnant. Success and good health, thanks to the great (subsidized at the time, which is why I try to give money now when I can) care and affordable pills. And I'm still using them for my girlparts-care. In fact, I had an awesome experience in 2005 getting my IUD at PP. Let me tell you about my IUD. :) Seriously, if you are curious send me a message and I'll overshare to you directly, suffice to say I had no problem as a late-20s married girl who hasn't had kids yet getting one of these awesome doohickeys put in, unlike the experience you might get at a private provider. In fact, the method was suggested to me at an annual, when I said I wanted a reliable alternative to systemic hormonal birth control (the IUD is nearly as effective as getting your tubes tied but it's totally reversible, how cool is that?!) What can be an intimidating minor procedure was made much easier by the warm care PP offers (they even had someone there just to hold my hand if I wanted it!), and when I had a scare a week or two after insertion (oh no, is it sneaking its way out?!?) they got me an appointment right away. When the exam was inconclusive, they even did an ultrasound right then (and let me keep the picture, so now I have an ultrasound image of my IUD on my fridge, yay). And it was fine, I was fine, but I felt like they really took the time to be sure and make sure I was feeling confident, as opposed to that "doctor-as-god" complex that happens to some medical professionals. read more

I'll admit to feeling a little anxious visiting a Planned Parenthood; all I ever heard about it were news reports about abortion protesters, and now, of course, the controversy over government funding. I was pleasantly surprised. I've been to this PP location twice now (once for *very* affordable birth control and once for an annual pap smear), and both times I felt safe and welcomed. The building is staffed by a security guard, and once you pass through the entrance the waiting area is clean and well-lit (and contains more guys than you would expect). The staff (from receptionists to clinicians) have been nothing but courteous to me. I felt like they were there to help, and what's more, I never felt rushed; during both visits I was encouraged to ask questions and offered additional services (like the HPV shot or STD testing) while I was in the office. I think it's so important that people be informed about their health options, and PP has clearly made it their mission to educate. I'm holding back the fifth star because their online booking system is kind of a mess. If you sign up for an appointment they get back to you within 24 hours by e-mail, which means if you're at work and can't check your e-mail, you may miss the appointment time they assign you or not have enough time to get there (which happened to me). I'd highly suggest booking an appointment over the phone -- if you call around 8 am you can request a same-day appointment, or schedule one a few days in advance. read more

I have the worst experience at this place I took my daughter there thinking that their medical assistance in their nursing staff would have a better bedside manner instead of dismissing what my daughter was complaining about and her issues. They need to pay attention when he came down to she needed a medication change I went to Planned Parent Hood years ago in their service was way better than what it is now I would not even send my daughter back to this place that's why we're going somewhere else for her health care and for her birth control I do not recommend going to this place at all but if you want shitty service and want to be treated less of a human being when it comes to medical needs and this is the place for you read more

Everyone has always been very polite and helpful. Don't expect to just be able to roll in and leave quickly. Be sure to give yourself at least 3 hours wiggle room for an appointment. Better safe than sorry. I am a big supporter of Planned Parenthood, because of all the good that they do, and it's also really easy to get an appointment. I recently switched insurance, and while I have picked a primary care Dr., I was unsure if I'd be able to be seen before my prescription for birth control pills before the wedding and I wanted to buy a little more time before scrambling to get in. I called Planned Parenthood, got an appointment set up about three days from when I called (unheard of at most health care facilities) and went in yesterday. All of the staff I dealt with was really pleasant, even more so than in the past when I'd gone here when I was younger. The wait was short, the waiting room a liiiiittle noisy with people on phones, even though it clearly states no phones on signs through out the waiting room. The Nurse I met with was very nice, and was really helpful in discussing my needs. She suggested a different prescription based on my complaints of the other prescription I'd been taking for the past while, and switched me to Yaz, which will hopefully make me less cranky at certain times of the month because that's not really my style. I was out long before one hour was up, and it was a pleasant experience. I will absolutely consider heading here for my yearly lady exam, as I felt really comfortable and like everyone was truly in it for the health of the patients and making them feel welcome. That welcoming goes a long way when you're going to need to drop your drawers for the sake of a check-up. read more

I had an IUD insertion at this location this evening and am happy to report a five-star experience. I was very nervous about pain, and everyone who attended to me was honest but soothing about what my experience would be. All of the office and medical staff were very present and took the time to listen and make me feel heard. I never felt like I was being rushed and, most importantly, felt that my autonomy and ability to make my own decisions about my body were 100% respected. I booked my appointment over the phone and had no trouble. Everyone was totally helpful every step of the way. The clinic is clean and well-guarded, and I didn't come across any protestors when I went on a Tuesday evening just before 6pm. read more

This review's going to be a bit biased, since I did work for Planned Parenthood (in New York) some time ago. I agree with Kitty P's review; for patients PP is fucking awesome, but if you're an employee (especially unpaid), it sucks out loud. I have a huge amount of admiration and respect for PP but some resentment as well, but that's mostly related to their treatment of interns and other unpaid help (see above). Their medical services, however, are top-notch. I went to PP back home in upstate NY for visits/bc pills. When I moved here and it came time for the dreaded annual exam, there was no question as to where I'd go. I was not disappointed at the Comm Ave branch. They are a huge center staffed with very professional, friendly, respectful, thorough people. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and the staff really is there to serve everyone. And unlike the Rochester, NY branch where I worked, there were no crazy protestors proclaiming that I'd surely go to hell (unless I happened to arrive on an off-day and missed it :p). When it came time to get refills on my pill prescription, the nurse transferred it to the pharmacy in the Shaw's next to my apt, no problem. I'll definitely keep going here. read more

This place is in a great location. Accessible to many, and has fairly good hours of operation. I came here alone for my own needs, and brought/accompanied a bunch of my friends throughout my teenage years. Security was always high- especially after the bombings in the 90's. There are a number of protesters (usually mid-week) who hang around on the sidewalk. I got more information from the doctors here than I could ever get from my regular doctors. I found out what prescriptions I shouldn't take since I have Epilepsy - something that NOBODY HAD EVER MENTIONED to me at all. Horrible. This place was always clean, and everybody was really respectful, and helpful. I definitely have suggested this place to all of my friends, and will continue to! read more

I can't say enough positive things about this organization. From it's professionalism, non-judgmental approach to sexual health, timeliness and promptness of returning phone calls, to the facilities and of course the staff...Planned Parenthood of Boston sets the bar very high for what healthcare can be. I'm a guy and have come to Planned Parenthood on more than one occasion (yes, it's not just for women). Considering the large population they serve, they have very reasonable wait times and will work with you to get you into the facility as fast as possible. What brought me in wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world but I felt respected and was treated with dignity each time I've been in and made the process of what I was going through so much easier. I have come during times when I've had insurance and other times when I haven't. Although it obviously helps to have insurance, the times when I was uninsured I was still assisted by staff over the phone. It feels like the staff genuinely care about your well being and I felt such a sense of empathy from them, especially when I was in a jam and needed their help when I was uninsured. I feel lucky to have a place like this in Boston. If you have any doubts about whether to go, I would encourage you to take the chance and check it out...this is the way that all medical facilities should operate. Planned Parenthood is a reminder that there are still plenty of good, warm-hearted people out there who want to help. I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to their staff and hope they continue to provide this exceptional service to the city of Boston. read more

This gets 4 stars because the clinician got was so nice. She was incredibly friendly and she did a really great job. She was very thorough and explained everything and seemed to really like her job. I didn't wait at all, the facilities were clean, and the nurses were nice, too. I'll definitely use their services again. But, if you want cheap, affordable women's health care, don't go to Planned Parenthood in Massachusetts. Despite my insurance not covering any OBGYN visits, I had to pay full price, upfront, with no payment plan. It cost the same as if I went to a private OBGYN! When I asked them about getting an IUD put in, they told me that because of the laws in MA requiring basically everyone to have health insurance, especially students, I would not be put on a sliding scale and I'd be required to pay upfront $500. It is VERY HARD to get around this - you have to somehow be a resident without health insurance. If your insurance doesn't cover it, they still wont consider you. Out of curiosity, I called the Planned Parenthood near my family out of state and they said it was illegal for them to deny someone care because they cannot pay - with or without insurance. So this changes state by state apparently. Now, I get it. I get it's the laws the state puts on them, and it's frustrating and it isn't fair. But just so you readers know, you will most likely pay $200 for a basic annual with no STD testing. The ladies at the front desk and the check-out counter were meh. They seemed really bored, like they really hated their jobs and their lives. I wasn't trying to make their jobs harder by asking 100 questions, but isn't that their jobs in the first place? Anyways - I left not feeling disturbed. I got my annual done and that was that. I am in Boston for the summer and my insurance back home just ran out so I decided to take a trip to PP because I wanted to see a doctor. I thought it was going to be a bad experience...especially when you get people like nuns and other crazy religious people yelling at you when you near the entrance. And they have a security guard right when you get in, motioning to you to go through a metal detector. He was really nice, though! I didn't go in for anything serious, just routine, but they were amazing there. So nice and helpful. And it seemed like the nurses and doctors really cared about making you feel comfortable and covering all the bases. I've been to some clinics back home and they have literally sucked. No bedside manner at all. As much as it sucks for all of us women to go to the doctor, this PP really made it easy. And it wasn't that expensive without insurance. And i recommend you make an appt. I was called in probably only 20 minutes after my appt time (opposed to close to an hr back home at my doc) so not bad at all. I recommend this place if you don't have insurance and/or you just really need to see a doctor quickly for whatever reason( check up, getting birth control pills, etc). They are very efficient there, so you can make an appt in a flash and won't have to wait as long as if you went to a doc in an ob/gyn clinic. read more

I got a new insurance plan and got kind of overwhelmed trying to choose a new OBGYN from the list of providers (kind of a crap shoot, isn't it?), so I figured I'd just go here, thinking it'd be more convenient... I made an appointment over the phone and couldn't be seen for a MONTH since I work during the weekdays.. so yeah, that already sucked, but that's fine, they are busy, I can understand that. But when I got to my appointment a month later, I arrived 15 minutes early and HAD TO WAIT FOR OVER 2 HOURS!!!! I was SO annoyed and just wanted get the hell out of there, but after waiting a month, I wasn't about to leave.. Mind you, I was in for a routine pap and birth control refills.. so pretty routine stuff that shouldn't take too long. It was a good 2 hours 40-some minutes by the time I got out of there, WITH an appointment made a MONTH in advance!!!! 1 star is for the really good NP who treated me, but everyone else here SUCKS. I would give this place 5 stars if it weren't for one thing: The horribly bitchy, extremely disrespectful and rude receptionists at check-in. From calling in to physically going in for an appointment/walk-in, I've never dealt with more hostile women who obviously have a complete lack of interest in their job and knowledge of how to deal with someone who is in crisis. Other than that, the nurses, doctors, and counselors were all great. They are the ones that give it all the stars. All in all though, I would just go to an actual gynecologist/OBGYN to get the best service and be treated the best. Especially if you have more than just a minor issue. read more

I went for my first visit yesterday with my boyfriend. He wanted to get a screening and I was there to get birth control pills. We had called the day prior and told that neither of us needed to make an appointment, that there was a garage attached and to "just come in between 4 to 7". The clinics closer to home don't admit or treat men except for one at a hospital that's just about as long of a drive as it is to get to Boston and they only become a "mens clinic" for two hours on a Thursday -a day my boyfriend cannot go due to his work schedule. When we got to the area of the clinic, we saw a posted sign saying that the garage was only open from 7a-10a. That was a bit discouraging, but we did find parking in a lot nearby. We filled our our yellow walk-in forms out and waited for maybe ten minutes. When I was called up, I was told initially that they were "full" and I'd have to come back. As the staff member was looking to schedule an appointment for me, she realized that there was an available appointment that evening at 545PM. My boyfriend, unfortunately, wasn't so lucky. He was told that without an appointment, they were "full up" and he couldn't be seen. Due to the fact that I had an appointment, I asked the person at the front desk if he could take my time slot since there was a women's clinic closer to home. She was a little rude to the both of us and eventually told me that the appointments couldn't be switched. That was fine. I was seen about 30m after my appointment was scheduled but both the clinician and the nurse were great. I was able to get a year's worth of birth control and we scheduled a visit for my boyfriend in the next week. Overall I'd say it was worth the commute... but the misinformation given to us on the phone did prevent me from giving it five stars. read more

The receptionist was super friendly and made me feel welcome. Everyone else I saw was nice and friendly. They were professional, but without being clinical. The waiting room was really clean and the security was tight, which made me feel more comfortable. I had to wait a little while to get though on the phone, but the person was nice, informative and made a point of helping me. When I got there, I only had to wait 20 minutes for a walk-in appointment. And, they serve guys as well as girls. I have not had a single pleasant experience at this planned parenthood. Firstly, I had made an appointment weeks before, and still had to wait over an hour to be seen. Then, I wasn't even seen by a real doctor, but waited all that time just for a newly licensed RN. They also refused to send the bill to the address specified for my insurance company and I had to conference them in 3 times just to get them to mail the bill to the right place. 2 months later, after I had switched insurance companies and therefore needed a copy of my birth control prescription, they refused to give me a copy unless I came in for another full exam (have had no problems with getting another copy of my prescription from other Dr.s) Altogether I would not go back here--only went in the first place because they were the only ones who would take my out-of-state health insurance. Terrible service and support-I'm glad I now have other options. read more

Planned Parenthood is awesome. Such a great resource for women and men alike, of all different walks of life. I went here recently to renew a prescription for oral contraceptive, and being between jobs, felt in a bind looking for a doc, and not wanting to pay an arm and a leg. Plus getting significantly reduced cost for pills (half the price than at Target). Everyone was nice, professional, and friendly. I had been to the Somerville location, which is a little bit more laid back. This location is a bit more formal - from the metal detector, to the double door security entrance. They make sure everyone that enters, errs on the side of safety, respect, and trust. The one thing that caught me really off guard, was that they asked me to submit a urine sample. WTF? I really want to love this Planned Parenthood location as I support the company through and through, but unfortunately I don't. I have never had such a repeatedly horrible experience with any company and when it is your health involved I think it's a serious issue. I have had problems with them billing me for services that were covered by my insurance and then having to run after them to get paid They have told me that a procedure cost a certain amount and then when I went to pay it was more that 5 times the cost. At my last visit they didn't have my updated medical records, and when I went in to see my doctor she had no idea what my medical history was or that I needed surgery. Most recently I asked to have them fill a prescription and got the the pharmacy only to realize that it was never called in and the offices were now closed which meant I had to wait more than 3 days. The list goes on. I would not recommend that someone go to this office unless there is no other option. read more

Today was my first visit at this location and I have to say, it was really great. I didn't know that this facility offered services for men and it does. The staff is very friendly and confidentiality is very important here. Like previous reviews, there is a security guard at the front door and you immediately feel like you're entering a very safe zone. My appointment was at 1:25 and I didn't see someone until 2pm. I was just there for a general screening and it took me a little over an hour. So Althou it took some time, it was well worth it. I definitely have to say everyone that works here is so great and so humble. I would recommend anyone to go here. They're not funded, so if you don't have great insurance or money you will be paying out of pocket. I just go to women's health center in Cambridge hospital and I'm seen the next day! Here I tried making appointments and they had nothing for a month, the walk in was a nightmare after being told to come in, I get there and the Doctor "called out"... so if you think you have an std Or infection, you cannot be checked out fast enough. I don't know why they're still in business, they're not doing anything to help at all. I have gotten abortion pills here and my insurance paid for it. That's the only thing they're good for, abortion is about $600 otherwise if you have the money and want to avoid the awkward insurance talk. read more
