At this point, I think I can officially call myself a paella connoisseur . If I see paella on the…read moremenu, I HAVE to try it. I don't make the rules. So of course, when I went to Pal Campo Restaurant, I had to order the paella. I didn't dine in this time, I grabbed it to go. First impression? They definitely got my attention because there was a big ol' lobster sitting right on top! Now THAT is how you introduce me to a plate of paella. The flavor was really good, the seafood was good, and overall I enjoyed it. My one issue was the peppers and onions. There were a LOT of big chopped pieces that I could clearly see and taste, and for me, that was a little bit of a turnoff. I prefer everything in my paella to blend together a little more. But did that stop me from eating it? Absolutely not. And here's the funny part. I ate the leftovers the next day and somehow it tasted even better! Maybe everything just needed a night to get acquainted because that second-day paella was hitting. So, as your self-appointed traveling paella inspector, I'm giving this one a 8/10. The flavor was there. The lobster definitely earned some extra points. I just needed those peppers and onions to calm down a little bit.

If you're looking for authentic Puerto Rican food with amazing flavors and a beautiful atmosphere, Pal Campo is definitely worth a visit!

It can get pretty loud inside, especially when the restaurant is busy, so just something to keep in mind if you prefer a quieter dining experience. We ordered the churrasco tostones rellenos, carne guisada with maduros, and churrasco with arroz con gandules. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. We came during a very busy time, so service was a little slower than expected, but our server was doing her best and was very kind despite how busy it was.

However, based on my experience, I felt the food and pricing didn't quite live up to expectations. The presentation was decent, and I can appreciate the effort that went into the dishes. Unfortunately, once you consider the prices, the overall experience becomes harder to justify. The food, while perfectly acceptable, was fairly middle-of-the-road for me and didn't stand out enough to warrant the price point. There are other options in the area offering similar, prepared Latino food at a lower price, including grocery-store options such as Bravo, and I found some of those to be comparable to what I experienced here. I genuinely wanted to enjoy the restaurant, and I hope this is taken as constructive feedback. For me, though, the combination of the food quality and the prices made it difficult to feel that the overall value was there.

PALERMO PUERTO RICAN... UN AMOR PROHIBIDO…read more Ay, Dios mío... I walked into Palermo Puerto Rican in Florida thinking I was simply going to have dinner. Pero NO. What happened that day was something much more dangerous... I fell in love. I ordered the Christmas Plate, and the moment it arrived at the table, I froze. Pork. Arroz con gandules. Pasteles. Plátanos maduros. I whispered... "No puede ser..." One bite, and suddenly I wasn't in Florida anymore. I was back in Puerto Rico during Las Navidades. I could almost hear the coquí, the music, the laughter of family, and somebody in the distance yelling, "¡Dale, que llegó la comida!" The pork was tender and full of flavor. The arroz con gandules tasted like Christmas memories on a plate. The pasteles... AY, LOS PASTELES! I wasn't emotionally prepared. And those sweet plátanos maduros came into my life like the forbidden lover my mother warned me about. I looked at my plate and said: "¡¿POR QUÉ?! ¿POR QUÉ TUVE QUE CONOCERTE AHORA?" Because this wasn't dinner anymore. ESTO ERA AMOR PROHIBIDO. Every bite brought back memories of Puerto Rican Christmases--the food, the family, the music, the alegría, the traditions. It was nostalgia, happiness, heartbreak and romance all served on one plate. And when the last bite was gone... I stared at the empty plate like the final scene of a telenovela. "No te vayas... todavía tenemos una vida juntos." Palermo Puerto Rican, you didn't just feed me. You took me home. And now our love may be complicated... it may be dangerous... it may even be forbidden... PERO VOLVERÉ. Because some loves are simply too powerful to forget. ¡QUE VIVA PUERTO RICO, QUE VIVA LA NAVIDAD... Y QUE VIVA ESTE AMOR PROHIBIDO!

Everything was delicious. Maybe put a Cuban on the menu?…read moreThe pork was so tender and flavorful. The mofongo was not dry at all! Sangria was perfect. Not to much citrus! I would come back again when in the area.
