We came over the hill on a Tuesday and randomly chose this place. Boy are we glad we did thiugh!…read moreThe food was amazing! So much flavor and the fusion was insanely good! Just enough spicy without being too much. Ordering at the counter seemed interesting to me due to the layout of the dining room, but the staff knew exactly what they were doing and were able to direct us to a seat easily! Our food and drinks also came in a timing manner. I really appreciated that we could see all the way back into the kitchen and there was transparency between the kitchen and the consumers. The bar looked gorgeous and I would definetly like to sit there next time for the vibes. I also loved that they provided self-serve boxes, napkins, and utensils but still had a sign asking patrons to be concious of how much they're using. The overall flow between ordering, self serve, and dining was super efficient and nice! Can't wait to come here again!

You counter order/pay and then are assigned a table (very helpful when you are a party of 6). Later on, we even saw people getting delivered their drinks while waiting in line). This Asian inspired fast causal place did not disappoint in flavors or food (and with very reasonable prices to boot). We loved the esquites (traditionally Mexican style street corn) with fish sauce - so so good. The strawberry & crispy rice salad and Thai beef salads were both bright, fresh, and tasty. The dan dan noodles, lomo saltado, and curries were all great as well. As an extra icing on top - the drinks (especially the $3 nonalcoholic shrub and homemade sodas) were great as well. We loved this place.

Service: the service was average. We were the first customers that were in the shop and the service…read morewas fast for us. It got busy with a packed front part of the shop with multiple people. Food: I ordered the wild salmon bento. It was a little on the fishy side. That is my only comment. The macaroni salad and the cucumber salad was good. The chicken Katsu was pretty good in my opinion. I do miss my bentos I would get when I ride the Shinkansen. Ambiance: small, cute, clean shop. I liked it. I feel there are limited ingredients in Central Oregon. This is pretty good for what we get in Central Oregon. I am happy that there is a small Japanese community in Bend. I can't wait to join it!

If I'm comparing to LA style and LA palates, this may be a 3-star. However, LA is competitive so it…read moreisn't fair and mainly rating it accordingly to the area and palates of a much less asian community. So if comparing on Oregon alone, giving it a 4. In general alone without comparisons: - chicken teriyaki flavors and sauce was perfect and not overwhelming BUT it was very charred. Loads of scattered chars on chicken which spread throughout rice made it difficult to eat without having the thought of eating a bowl of high cancer risk. (See pic. All the black areas, sauce and rice had specks scattered like pepper all over but is char). Unless you love a great char bbq flavor, then this is for you. Again, had it not been so overly charred, I actually really liked this. - the gyudon bowl was good. No char here. Descent portion and meat to rice ratios (same as the chicken). One thing i like is they used lean beef instead of the traditional fatty beef belly short plate type slices. Easier for me so I don't have to pick out the fat strips. Flavor is not bad but this compared to chicken teriyaki sauce is much stronger. More saltier and sweet than what im used to. I actually prefer the juices from yoshinoya instead which seems more brothy. In addition, unsure if its my taste buds but if i taste it correctly, it was missing dashi base. Although i also feel its catering to local taste buds and preferences which I could completely understand: so if you prefer more flavors (salty and sweet) and less or no dashi flavors then this is for you. - We also got spam musubi (this is quite generic and cant really go wrong). So this is definitely a safe one to get. Service: there were a skeleton crew of 3. They were all super nice and sweet. I can tell they take a lot of pride and care in making your food. They made our chicken to order, as I saw one lady literally just cutting strips of chicken to cook. So I will also add that it took awhile to get our food. So if you are coming hungry, expect a wait and be patient as they are a small crew especially during busy rush hrs. Or call in your order ahead of time. Ambience: like many Japanese establishments, they are usually small. Just a long table along each side of a long hallway. However, there are sooo many nice parks and malls around that we took it to go and did a small picnic nearby. It was amazing. Cost: definitely much more costly than LA. Oregon doesn't have sales tax but exchanged with the spiked price tags (more tourists vibe prices).

Spam Musubi - 4 stars. Lovely spam and sauce, but the seaweed was a little stale and not easy to bite through. Fri takeout lunch 2024-07-05

While visiting Bend Oregon we decided to go back to visit Chi Chinese and Sushi Bar…read more It wasn't as crowded from the last time we visited and got seated right away. We ordered family style I ordered the orange chicken which was good and flavorful. The Seafood tofu soup was very good and tasty with a lot of vegetables and seafood and tofu. The appetizer platter was good and gave a good selection of their appetizers, so if you enjoy an appetizer you could order more. The fried spring rolls came out hot and crispy and the sauce was good it was the type you can buy at the market, sweet chili sauce which is what most restaurants are using. The sushi rolls we had 5 different types of sushi's rolls, which was good, but for sushi you should order 1-2 rolls at a time and as it starts to get eaten, then order the next set. First if you order all at once hardly any room on the table and sushi should be eaten fresh right away and also there was so much left over and to eat it the next day is the worst way to eat sushi! Staff were friendly and service was good and restaurant and restrooms were clean and well maintained. Lots of parking

The only thing we didn't like was the gluten free version of the shrimp and pork rice rolls. They fall apart when you pick them up and they're 80% gooey rice sheet. Everything else (sesame balls, crispy dragon balls, har gow, rice dumplings, shrimp stuffed crab claw) was awesome!
