We came by at 530pm on a weekday and man were we happy to have come early. This place was busy busy…read moreand we now understand why. You counter order/pay and then are assigned a table (very helpful when you are a party of 6). Later on, we even saw people getting delivered their drinks while waiting in line). This Asian inspired fast causal place did not disappoint in flavors or food (and with very reasonable prices to boot). We loved the esquites (traditionally Mexican style street corn) with fish sauce - so so good. The strawberry & crispy rice salad and Thai beef salads were both bright, fresh, and tasty. The dan dan noodles, lomo saltado, and curries were all great as well. As an extra icing on top - the drinks (especially the $3 nonalcoholic shrub and homemade sodas) were great as well. We loved this place.

Food was probably a 4 by itself but the order system is weird which made the ambience chaotic. Needs one guy serving drinks and answering questions about the menu, and one person taking orders. The food was Chinese fusion with Mexican influences and we got mala noodles, 1 shrimp taco, and fried chicken. I'm Chinese and my husband is Mexican, so in theory this place would be right up our alley. However the shrimp taco's tortilla was not made fresh which is is the whole point of the taco (the salsa and the tortilla). The chicken was decent but not spectacular. The mala noodle was good on flavor (kudos for keeping the "ma" part intact) and probably the best part of the meal, but the rice noodle needs to be cooked 1-2 minutes less.

The family and I got away a few days to Bend. The day before we stumbled upon The Box Factory near…read morethe Old Mill District and decided the following day we would go and have lunch at one of the restaurants there. Just so happens one of places we wanted to try was closed for for lunch, so we ended up wanting to try Miyagi Ramen. Boy, glad we did. We walked in and we were greeted by 2 young ladies working up front that did a fantastic job giving great service. It wasn't very busy so we were served pretty quickly. I tried the Chicken Paitan Ramen. Very good, not to spicy, Chicken was tender, the sprouts and bamboo shoots worked well together. Another good thing was the portion size. I took half of it with me. Overall a very good experience. The vibe was very cool. It was the standard, eclectic Bend vibe. I liked they happened to be playing 70's disco, Motown music. I would say if you come to Bend, Miyagi Ramen is a must try. Then go shopping, go wine tasting there at The Box Factory. So a shout out to the ladies working on 7/16 for lunch. You did great. Next time we are in Bend we will come back for more ramen.

I liked how the…read moreflavors were balanced well, the pork was pretty crispy and juicy, and the sauce was savory and citrusy (I think I got yuzu and ginger sauce). Service (7/10): you order at the cashier and then the server would bring your food to the table. You also grab your own utensils and waters so it was a lot of self service, which worked out for the better for this place because the staff seemed pretty busy. Overall the service was OK to me. Vibes (8/10): the inside looked pretty cool since they had a big wall with graffiti art and they had good music playing in the background so overall a good vibe. However, the place is kinda small so I wouldn't recommend for groups bigger than 6 imo. Parking: we came on a Tuesday afternoon and there was plenty of parking in the plaza to the right of the restaurant. My only concern for this place was that I saw one of the servers switching between taking orders at the register and preparing food with her bare hands without washing her hands in between nor wearing gloves during food preparation so that was a bit concerning for me.

It got busy with a packed front part of the shop with multiple people. Food: I ordered the wild salmon bento. It was a little on the fishy side. That is my only comment. The macaroni salad and the cucumber salad was good. The chicken Katsu was pretty good in my opinion. I do miss my bentos I would get when I ride the Shinkansen. Ambiance: small, cute, clean shop. I liked it. I feel there are limited ingredients in Central Oregon. This is pretty good for what we get in Central Oregon. I am happy that there is a small Japanese community in Bend. I can't wait to join it!

If I'm comparing to LA style and LA palates, this may be a 3-star. However, LA is competitive so it…read moreisn't fair and mainly rating it accordingly to the area and palates of a much less asian community. So if comparing on Oregon alone, giving it a 4. In general alone without comparisons: - chicken teriyaki flavors and sauce was perfect and not overwhelming BUT it was very charred. Loads of scattered chars on chicken which spread throughout rice made it difficult to eat without having the thought of eating a bowl of high cancer risk. (See pic. All the black areas, sauce and rice had specks scattered like pepper all over but is char). Unless you love a great char bbq flavor, then this is for you. Again, had it not been so overly charred, I actually really liked this. - the gyudon bowl was good. No char here. Descent portion and meat to rice ratios (same as the chicken). One thing i like is they used lean beef instead of the traditional fatty beef belly short plate type slices. Easier for me so I don't have to pick out the fat strips. Flavor is not bad but this compared to chicken teriyaki sauce is much stronger. More saltier and sweet than what im used to. I actually prefer the juices from yoshinoya instead which seems more brothy. In addition, unsure if its my taste buds but if i taste it correctly, it was missing dashi base. Although i also feel its catering to local taste buds and preferences which I could completely understand: so if you prefer more flavors (salty and sweet) and less or no dashi flavors then this is for you. - We also got spam musubi (this is quite generic and cant really go wrong). So this is definitely a safe one to get. Service: there were a skeleton crew of 3. They were all super nice and sweet. I can tell they take a lot of pride and care in making your food. They made our chicken to order, as I saw one lady literally just cutting strips of chicken to cook. So I will also add that it took awhile to get our food. So if you are coming hungry, expect a wait and be patient as they are a small crew especially during busy rush hrs. Or call in your order ahead of time. Ambience: like many Japanese establishments, they are usually small. Just a long table along each side of a long hallway. However, there are sooo many nice parks and malls around that we took it to go and did a small picnic nearby. It was amazing. Cost: definitely much more costly than LA. Oregon doesn't have sales tax but exchanged with the spiked price tags (more tourists vibe prices).
