Went to Sora Sushi with my 18-month-old daughter and sister. Within 3 minutes of sitting down, the host (with pink hair) came over and told me to keep my baby quiet because "people were getting upset." The place was nearly empty--only one other table. My daughter wasn't even crying for a full minute, just a little fussy because she was hungry. He showed zero patience or understanding. When I said we could leave if needed, he just repeated "keep her quiet," shrugged his shoulders, and showed no empathy. We left immediately. If you have kids, especially toddlers, avoid this place. They clearly don't want families there and should just put up a sign saying so. We ended up going to Chans and had a wonderful experience. read more

They denied my entry because I have a Service dog that is clearly marked with his Vest. To add to the insult, the person in charge said that anyone could put a service dog on any dog and he was demanding documentation to show proof that my dog is a legit. Even when I showed a documentation, he was still denying us entry. I documented everything with a video and I am thinking if I should escalate this to the department of Justice and ADA. When we went in there on Sunday, January 25th, at 1:00 P.M., we saw a preparer drop a dish of sushi off of a plate. It landed on a cardboard box of paper towels that were sitting there, and you don't know how much dust was sitting on that box. Instead of just taking the sushi back and throwing it away, he put it back on the plate and put it on the conveyor belt! I was so grossed out! I complained to our server about it. He went back to talk to the preparer. After that, the server took a dish off of the conveyor belt, but I don't think it was the right one. They couldn't have. My friend and I were visiting from out of town and we're both feeling like sushi, so we looked up places on yelp and decided to go with SORA. The downtown area that it is found in is a pretty cool spot just to walk around and we were excited that they were open after 9 PM which is when we got into town. The fact that we were starving how does pretty excited to eat anything, let alone sushi that we love. From the lady who sat us at our table, from the waiter who answered all of our questions (and we had a ton) The team was incredibly professional, courteous, and didn't make us feel like "Out-of-Towners". I wish I could remember exactly which roles I had, but the names are escaping me but I did take pictures. I was happy to find out that they had both vegan and gluten-free options. I have had better sushi, but between the customer service and two really solid rolls, I would definitely recommend this small, hometown sushi joint in downtown Bend. This place was sad and not so fresh tasting. I came in at 12:00 on a Friday and it was dead. The decor and overall aesthetic seemed dingy and dusty. The first sign that I might not enjoy is there wasn't a chef in the sushi making area. I'd think a Friday lunch hour would keep someone busy, but there were only 4 other people there. A few people walked in for lunch, then shortly walked out to leave. The rolls on the conveyor belt were portioned well, but didn't taste super fresh. It seemed more like a Chinese buffet sushi you'd find elsewhere. We came to this establishment because it seemed to be the highest rated sushi restaurant in bend, but we left it with the realization you can't always trust reviews. The sushi was OK. The sashimi did not taste fresh and the types and flavors was nothing new. We enjoyed the conveyor belt experience and prices per plate for lunch. Decorations wer also tasteful. One of the worst parts of our experience was our first waiter who had to be flagged down several times to get him to help us, had to be asked several times before a straight answer was given about gluten free options,and he was condescending (probably unknowingly). Our second waiter was much more helpful and professional. Later, everyone in our group experienced upset stomachs. Looking for conveyer belt sushi but due to Covid, that was not happening and to our first meal in Bend we ended up here, arrived about an hour or so before they closed. They were not that busy, they gave us ample time to go over the menu. We ordered a variety of sushi, fried rice for the kids and also gyoza. It took awhile for our sushi order to arrive and we thought they forgot us. It turned out that they put all the sushi together on a single platter, must say it was very impressionable. Delicious and tasty sushi, the fried rice was good as were polished it all off while waiting for our sushi order. My husband and I enjoy coming here because 1) the sushi is good and basic, 2) the prices are reasonable. We are not sushi aficionados (as John in a previous review says), and we are basic/simple when it comes to sushi. We don't like spicy and the only raw thing we like is salmon so that narrows it down a lot. We usually share everything just so we can get a taste of different things: a Bento box with two items ($17.99) and get chicken terriyaki and one other entree, one order of the Sunshine roll ($14), one or two orders of sake (salmon nigiri $5.75) and we're more than happy after we finish everything and we don't feel like we're officially broke LOL. We've only come for dinner so far but definitely can't wait to try the conveyor belt during lunch one day. This is our sushi go-to here in Bend! read more

Sora achieved the most ignominious honor I could bestow on a Japanese restaurant -- serving the worst ramen in my living memory. I've had hundreds if not thousands of bowls of ramen in the past 40 years and at most, I was dismayed with some broth that was nearly jelly-like or left-over ramen noodles that had the texture of sludge. I've even had $1.50 subway ramen in Japan. But, none left the ugly memory of a broth so over salted that my mouth burned from only having a few bites of the otherwise unseasoned ramen noodles. Even my decades of tolerance for salty ramen broth were no match for the assault of pure salt lick. I suppose I should have read the signs: the neglected and terribly sun bleached photos of the food on the exterior, the odd burning rubber smell lingering in the restaurant that didn't quite go away with time, or the waitress who served us as if we were a bother, even as we were 1 of 3 occupied tables in the whole place. At $17, it was also one of the most expensive bowls of ramen I've had, as the assault proceeded to my wallet as well. I really hope somebody works on turning this place around. There's obviously a need for a good ramen place in Bend given all the foodies. With a great location and spacious interior, its current state of affairs is just sad. read more

We picked a few options that we were comfortable with and also got some gyoza's and egg rolls both which were great. The spicy tuna was as expected, good and fresh. The food is very fresh, and the sushi train is a blast, even mesmerizing. I really love the colorful Sunshine Roll on the menu, miso soups and edamame. But my partner prefers to pluck plates from the beautiful food slowly going by on the the carousel. The staff is very attentive and kind. Don't even know where to start on this place, it's so dirty it's not right. The spider webs and inch of dust hanging from the lights over the sushi bar are disgusting. The walls literally are covered in little bugs, the entire exit sign is all buggy nests. The sides of my bar stool were so sticky I had to get a new chair. The rolls were so bad I had to spit them out because the nori was so hard. The crazy electrical cords all zip tied hanging over your head as you enter should concern anyone. The service is an even worse story, we had to go looking for our server 3x. But most important is the lack of cleaning. This place is embarrassing for Bend. read more

The food was mediocre, but the waitress was downright hostile and angry about having to really wipe the table down for me and to reheat my hot sake since it was served barely warm and returned barely any warmer. And I felt so uncomfortable, I could not even ask for wasabi which my sushi was missing. Then as I typed this review, she tried to force me to pay before I was ready.
