We are so grateful to Sherry for being the most incredible dance instructor! She not only managed…read moreto teach two engineers how to dance (so trust us, she can teach anyone!) but did so with such kindness, patience, and grace. We were initially skeptical about learning remotely, but it ended up being the best possible way for us to learn! Sherry made the virtual experience so convenient, flexible, and surprisingly fun. Her ability to break things down and guide us step by step was just as effective as being in the same room--and it allowed us to practice comfortably at home on our own schedule. Sherry is an absolute gem--a beautiful soul who is so passionate about what she does, and it shines through in every lesson. She turned something we were nervous about into one of the highlights of our wedding preparation. Working with Sherry was such a joy, and we couldn't have asked for a better guide to help us prepare for our first dance. If you're looking for someone to help you feel confident, have fun, and create something truly special, Sherry is your person. We can't recommend her enough!

Fi I was a little nervous to start, having never done a dance class, but Sherry eased my nerves in the first 10 minutes. She has the ability's to explain in a way that makes sense to both of us, even though my wife and I may not be thinking the same thing. I was also concerned about the virtual lessons, but in reality that was much better. You have the comfort of you own house with the individual teaching. It felt more like Sherry was at our house than us being at her studio. I think that made a huge difference and lessened my anxiety and made the learning much easier. We have learned the fox trot, east coast swing, and the jitterbug. Now were are transitioning to the Latin styles. I would highly recommend Sherry. She makes the lessons fun and low stress. I would have never ventured out to a club for a night of dancing without her support. Now we are going dancing a couple nights a month.

I purchased a prepaid membership with Bachata Denver based on the schedule and structure that were…read moreadvertised at the time. Several months later, the class schedule and locations changed significantly. I asked whether a partial refund could be considered given those changes, but was told refunds are not offered under their policy. My bigger issue, however, was the quality and structure of the classes themselves. There was little sense of progression and very limited focus on fundamentals or the mechanical details that actually help people improve. Classes often felt loosely organized, and when students struggled with technique the most common advice was simply to "practice at home." For a paid instructional program, I expected more direct coaching and clearer skill development. Another practical consideration is the class demographic. If you are a man considering joining, be aware that the classes are heavily male-skewed. In many sessions it felt like roughly 90-95% men, which meant a lot of time either waiting to rotate or practicing without a partner. The community around bachata in Denver can be friendly and social. But if you're looking for structured instruction, clear progression, and balanced partner practice, this school may not meet those expectations.

My husband found Bachata Denver on Facebook from a video of the dancers. It looked like fun, and we…read morecouldn't wait to start! October 27th, 2021, was the first class we attended at Bachata Denver. We proceeded to attend 3 more classes. We absolutely loved It! It was fun, the teachers were skilled and talented at instructing. The other students were wonderful, the class size was intimate and there was a big dance studio floor, so we all had room to do our thing. It became our favorite night of the week (side note: highly recommend doing dance class with your partner), we thoroughly enjoyed it. However, our last class was November 24th, 2021, as I found out I needed emergency surgery. We advised both the instructor, Kelisha, and Pierre Tchenawou (business owner), that I had surgery scheduled for the following week and would be unable to attend class for a couple months, until I fully recovered. My husband didn't want to go to class without me, so we said we both would be taking a break for a few months. They gave us hugs and well wishes for my surgery, and they're excited for us to come back to class. The conversation took place immediately after class, as we were all saying our goodbye's. We were eager to start back up again after the new year, and we said we'd contact them when the Dr cleared me to resume class. Fast forward to March 2022, and we just realized this dance studio has continued billing us $200 per month. We contacted the owner about these erroneous charges; thinking, it's a small school, they must've not realized it, they'll make it right. Boy were we wrong! The owner matter-of-factly told us they have a 5-day cancellation notice; he asked us to understand he's running a business and be respectful of that. He said the school has been taken advantage of in the past, so he has to be strict about their cancellation policy. He advised their policy is listed on their website. He told us he runs another business and travels, and he has a lot more going on than Wednesday night bachata class... which is fair. However, we didn't expect him to cancel us automatically from not attending, we told him to his face that we needed a break for a few months. After some back and forth, he then changed his story, and acknowledged now he recalls hearing about my surgery, but he insists we didn't request to cancel our membership. Who would continue paying for a class they couldn't attend for several months? That doesn't make any sense. If we didn't finally notice they billed us in March, they would just continue billing us $200 a month for forever. That is the definition of bad business practices. That is unprofessional, greedy, dishonest, inexcusable and grimy! The owner has now stolen $800 for classes over the last 3 months, including pre-charging us for March! Pierre said to compromise, he will refund the $200 payment from a few days ago which pays for March 2022 membership, but that's it. This is laughable and an insult to my husband and I. He called both of us liars saying the cancellation portion of the November 24th conversation never happened. He spoke with Kelisha (dance instructor for our class) who concurred and doesn't recall any conversation about anything on that day. Yet, Pierre remembers the surgery portion of the conversation. How does that make sense? Mr. Tchenawou is relying solely on his flawed recollection of a conversation 4 months ago, when the situation is black and white. It's quite simple. I advised we would be contacting our bank account to dispute the charges. My husband and I both own our companies, and we work very hard. We are often busy as well, juggling multiple things as well. I don't care about the $800, it's principal. Businesses need more accountability. As an artist and dancer, Pierre is amazing. As a business owner and operator, he is severely lacking. And calling us liars because you can't recall something, is tacky and in bad taste. We gave them an opportunity to make it right, but they'd rather go this route. I find it humorous this owner is enforcing a contract agreement we never signed, acknowledged, or consented to. The auto-billing enrollment policies were honored, we advised him within 5 days of the cancellation, back on November 24th, 2021. Do better, Bachata Denver!

I am already able to try out more advanced techniques, and am blown away by my progress in such little time. Rex is incredibly talented and knows both the nuts and bolts of actual mixing and also the beat and blending theory that goes along with it. Incredible one on one instruction, and easily worth the price. Discosapien Academy makes DJing extremely accessible, so if you are even remotely interested in learning some mixing, or are an advanced DJ, I would absolutely recommend this Academy!

So I did what every supportive parent does; I Goggled everything from "kids raves to DJ lessons" and only came up with a few small selection of contacts for the Denver area. The weeks of searching was very disappointing, as I tried to make multiple attempts at calling (and even trying to stop by some places during their open business hours), not a single place was even interested in talking to me when I said that I have a very interested 11 year old that wants to learn DJ'ing and music production. This was until I called and talked to Rex with Discosapien Academy. First - Rex actually answered the phone and took the time to talk to me; while he listened to all of ramblings about my son and his music interests. Rex was genuinely excited about wanting us to come and meet with him; so that we could get a feel for what his lessons could offer. When meeting with Rex and seeing my sons reaction to this whole new world; I knew we were in the right place. It's now been almost 4 months, and my son has completely stepped up his game. Rex has taken my sons musical interests to a whole new level; where he talks about music production and how the different parts of a song need to be properly arranged to sound proper with the different pitch and sound adjustment; it's pretty mind blowing to here all of this from a now 12 year old. Rex is so patient and very calm in his teaching style. I love just sitting and listening from the outside hearing how Rex teaches and explains the lessons; while applying a hands on learning technique which is followed up by such positive encouragement. My son leaves every lesson even more excited and passionate about creating his own music and sound. I know this was a lengthy review; but as a parent that came into this new musical world with absolutely no idea where to turn; I hope that this review and post will offer other parents a quicker resource for you and your child. If you want to ever call and talk more about this review; I am happy to elaborate more. So I will let Rex know that he can surely share my contact information. Good luck! Bobby S.

I would add, that often leads to an openness and trust on a personal level that allows him to truly help people arrive at a better state of wellness beyond just physical health. It was not until recently, after suffering a spate of miscellaneous sports misfortunes, that I had the opportunity to experience what Rob does first hand. It honestly blew my mind. His ability to diagnose an apparent problem is skillful, and candidly I would have never appreciated the interconnected-nature of my weaknesses on my own. (E.g., this back pain you're experiencing is actually about your glutes). From there, he helps to rectify the current issue, in a way that to my lay mind is a little akin to witchcraft. (I explained to a friend, that when Rob was 'adjusting' my pulled calf muscle it sort of felt like he was doing nothing, and then magically everything was better after). Finally, Rob gives useful, practical guidance on areas to work on that help to improve the overall function and avoid the issue going forward. His approach is full service, which honestly makes him unlike any trainer or therapist with which you might otherwise work. It's why it's so hard to explain what it is exactly that he does, unless you've truly had the fortune to experience it yourself. If you're working through an injury, or just trying to get to a better place of overall function, I cannot recommend Rob more highly!

Rob helped me realize that the soreness and tightness I was feeling (especially after having three kids) wasn't something I just had to live with. His approach is super personal, and even over virtual sessions, he has this ability to notice little movement patterns and imbalances I didn't know existed. The exercises he gives are simple but so effective. And as a mom, I really appreciate how flexible and accommodating he is. He's totally understanding when my schedule gets crazy, and even included my baby in a few sessions during nap strikes. Plus, his voice is so calming--I always end our sessions feeling relaxed and reset. Can't recommend him enough!
