BOOT STAR in my opinion, is the best western boot shop I've ever been in. They recently moved down the street to much larger and cooler store on Sunset Plaza....with free parking in back (very good) I wanted a discontinued Old Gringo style called Diaz. I've been looking for a used pair of them on e-Bay and Google for more than 10 yrs. I actually stopped in to see if they sold used boots and Scott asked me what I was looking for and when I told him, he said he could get those made for me, to my specifications and at a fair price. I was like, no way! He assured me he could and so I put down a deposit and waited. I got em the day before Christmas. I cant believe it.....they're perfect! I wanted them to be ankle boots because the jeans are too tight at the bottom these days for tall boots. I also wanted them distressed looking .. and Scott recommended making the toe a little shorter; which was a good idea because I'm not that tall, so it's more proportionate for me. I havent taken them off since I got them and they're finally broke in and so comfortable. I liked them so much I ordered them in another color and I might even order them in another color too. They have the best variety of brands and styles and if you're not 100% sure about what you want , customize them. Scott & his wife Chris know boots. You can say I want that toe, that heel, that color and they say no problem. They also have great hats, belts and shirts. Men & women. Stop in and check it out and their beautiful dogs too.

    Thanks, Xavier!

Sent email to bootstaronline.com that was promptly answered by Xavier. I knew the style I wanted but was unsure of the size or color. I was actually replacing something similar that I used to have and wanted again quite badly. He answered all of my annoying questions and steered me towards the right style, size and color. They arrived today and I couldn't be happier. Choices on the Internet are virtually unlimited these days. What separates those who offer from those who sell is customer service, rapport and knowledge. Price is important but, contrary to conventional wisdom, it's not everything. Thank you again, Xavier. I will be back and so will my friends.

Open up, I've got a return!

If you're young, rich, and home-on-the-rangerous -- or just want to play the part -- you've got to have sexy boots to tell the world, "I WILL make cowboy boots in a club HAPPEN." -- or maybe you just want stylish Wyatt Earp kicks to wear while line, polka, pole or cubicle dancing. Yipee-ki-way to GO shorty -- at Boot Star, it's your birthday! Whatever your motive (you're planning to wear them in bed, aren't you), Boot Star will turn your feet into Rodeo [Drive] headliners -- for between $250 and $3000, so it might as well be your birthday because that's an awfully big present to yourself! But so what? Don't pay your cell phone bill for a month or so or five, gorgeous -- you deserve to look good. In boots like these, all the people you would have called will come to YOU, whether you dial them up or not. Don't expect to find those sleek, thigh-high Prada boots you saw in French Vogue here, though. Everything at Boot Star is strictly Western -- usually leather, often covered in snakeskin or in the pelts of wild, exotic animals who probably never dreamed they would one day grow up to become shoes, instead of growing up to mate at will and walk around naked. (Actually, I'm not so sure about the "wild animal pelts" thing...) What I AM sure of, though, is that both men and women can shop here -- you can get various accessories, too, like belts and Western tops. Sizes tend to run kind of baggy, so it will help if you have a good tailor or have a good appetite to fill out that gingham rancher's shirt. Service is okay, if not terribly enthusiastic -- they know the boots (available in styles ranging classic brown to "God, I'm Such a Tool" Ed Hardy-ish crap) will sell themselves, usually sliding onto the pampered feet of those who will never come closer to the Old West than a bottle of Jack Daniels. Speaking of which, Pink Dot Liquor is next door. Sip Bacardi like it's your birthday, sexy.

I brought her out to Hollywood for a Mommy/Daughter date and this store was one of our highlights. She loves leather bracelets and we peeked through the windows and saw some of the coolest items! The shop was closed, but the leatherworker saw us and came and opened the doors. He was very kind and patient with my indecisive teenager. He went above and beyond snapping each bracelet on her wrist while I had fun looking at the custom made hybrid hi-tops, hats, and jackets. She finally chose a bracelet; he was kind and and let her keep another she had her eye on that didn't fit. So, he even resized it for her!!! He saw me watching in awe at him using his tools and invited us over to watch. He asked her if she wanted to studs flattened and then hammered them down. "Now wanna see something cooler?" "YES!" Then he poked holes into the top of each stud. He seriously made our freaking day!!! You can buy cookie cutter cheap leather bracelets anywhere, we even saw some 2 shops down. But, LA Riga has high-quality real leather goods for reasonable prices. However, it was the epic interaction we had with the leatherworker that will keep us coming back. So worth the drive! I'm only kicking myself now that I didn't write his name down‍

I purchased the grommets and returned a couple of weeks later to rent the die sets from him and he then changed his mind and said he couldn't rent them to me because he uses them and he acted as if he had no idea what I was taking about when I told him he said I could rent from him. I would not have bought the grommets if I knew I had to buy the die sets as well. The whole point was to rent the sets and save money. I could have bought much cheaper grommets and die sets elsewhere, which I will be doing now. The second encounter- I was trying to learn from him about grommet installation. I know it's not his job to educate me, but I simply asked a question as to why some grommets look different from others on the backside when they are installed and he told me to "stop being so picky" and got annoyed and blew me off and wouldn't give me an answer. I told him I just wanted to understand the difference but he refused to give me an answer. Again, I know it's not his job to teach me anything, but the poor customer service was very frustrating especially as someone who was planning on buying in bulk for production.
