The good: staff helpful, good range of leathers. The bad: the owner inflating prices on checkout. I visited a few weeks ago and got a sample, and a price written on the back of the sample. On buying the same leather a few weeks later, the owner says a different (higher) price to the receptionist. I query this and he gives me some nonsense about bulk price etc. I liked the color so reluctantly went ahead. Life is too short to get worked up about this, as there are plenty more leather suppliers out there and the difference ended up being say $30. So it's not the money, it's the principle. I got the feeling the price ends up being whatever the owner decides. Just please beware of this when you buy from them. read more

I visited United Leather earlier this week and immediately fell in love. The selection was amazing, well organized, and each piece was of high quality. The director, Sharon, was very knowledgeable and helpful. As we browsed the selection, she provided details about the benefits of each skin and what kind of garment or piece it would be best suited for. Best of all, you can order as little as one skin at a time! This place is perfect for a student who doesn't need a large wholesale order or for anyone who needs some assistance in selecting the right type of leather for a project. I was immediately scheduled some help in looking for my leather, and someone stayed with us the entire time in making our selection. The customer service was first class, as is their beautiful building (although in an industrial area, not a frightening part of the city as has been represented in other reviews.). I generally have no problems but did have an encounter with one of the owners. I was asking for the location of a certain napa leather when he proceeded to essentially talk to me like I had the mental capacity of a three year old. Fortunately, I haven't seen him or his little blue loafers since. Also, it helps if you speak Spanish because many of the floor employees are Spanish speakers and they'll generally be willing to help you out and give you advice. Be mindful of any pretentious shoppers in oversized "casual California wear", as well. As they generally wonder about and are the worst. read more

If you enjoy dealing with liars, con-artists and people who can't be bothered to help you - you've hit the jackpot here! I've been on 4 different occasions b/c yes, their selection of leather good is undeniable amazing. HOWEVER - on each occasion, when you finally can find someone who helps you, you may or may not get a price quote. It will NEVER match what they decide on at the register. Then you get to go on a hunt to show the man in "charge" (who obviously scares the shit out of the employes ) who gave you the price quote in the first place. That person will then act like you are crazy despite the witnesses you have with you who also heard it in plain clear English!!! It's almost a game! This past trip, I even had the quote that they rang up ON PAPER and stapled to the piece I had chosen BY AN EMPLOYEE. They still would not honor it. I have NEVER in my whole life seen such rude, unprofessional and disorganized management. Save yourself the frustration. Oh! And they also lie about sizing. They don't measure the pieces exactly - just " eye" them. When I got home and measured the piece, they were off by more than a square foot and 1/2. SCAM ARTISTS!!!! read more

I've been all over town searching for quality leather with a good price and selection. I found it. Don't let the beautiful store front fool you, the prices are very reasonable and considering the care they take with the skins and like I said quality, I was very happy. Five or six walls of leather floor to ceiling of nearly every shade, texture and animal print you can imagine. The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable and patient with describing all the different types of leather and uses. My single regret is that I live and work on the Westside and they're only open during the week, which means I have to take a long lunch and drive like a lunatic to get there and back. But I'll keep endangering my life and those of others until they get some Saturday hours! Now you know! FYI, make sure you're confident with your choices as I learned there are no returns or refunds for single hides. Also, apparently some Saturdays the owner comes in for a couple hours. Call Friday end of day to confirm he'll be there. read more

I will never be back! I couldn't shake the terrible feeling the owner of this establishment gave me for an entire day after I left! Upon entering I was warmly greeted by reception and then once again by the employees inside. All signs pointed to me having a great experience in this store..until the owner approached me. I should first say that I have been working with leather at home for the last year and this was my first time in an actual Leather store. I was so excited to finally be able to see all the color and animal options in person and not just in some catalogue. The smell alone was worth the 3 hour drive! This excitement ended when the owner decided it was his place to give me unsolicited business advice, belittle me, snap at me, raise his voice to me, and suggest I go to the "scrap bin" for my business needs. I have never been treated so poorly in a place of business before! The leather is subpar and the service from the owner is AWFUL! I have been working in customer service my whole working life and I would never treat any potential customer (or person) the way this person treated me! I was ready to leave the area and go back home when I found another leather supplier in the area. Their leather was more reasonable in price and better quality than United Leather. Even more important, the customer service from the owner and everyone else in the establishment was AMAZING! All my questions were answered patiently and kindly. I left with thousands of dollars worth of leather and I can't wait to go back for more!! read more
