When Hawaii Kai opened up and I read that it served Poke, I could not resist to try it. I love Poke…read moreand unfortunately, Winnipeg is seriously lacking in Poke options (I believe Chosabi is the only other place that offers Poke). Hawaii Kai is located inside Cityplace mall. It is a take-out spot, catering to the city's downtown office workers. Their menu includes a variety of 'healthy' Hawaiian and Asian cuisine, including salads, smoothies and bubble-tea. I ordered the salmon poke bowl. It came out to about $15. The portion was relatively small for what I expected. The salmon had a strange type of mayo spice on it. The crunch flakes used were reminiscent of cheap Frito corn chips. Overall I was disappointed. I was looking forward to Hawaii Kai as an alternative to Freshii (also located in the mall), but with it being much more expensive for sub-par quality, I think I will be pass on this in the future and head back to Freshii for their rice bowls (I know this is not an apples to apples comparison). This scores 3 out of 5 mainly because of its location and it being the second spot in Winnipeg to offer Poke.

Last Tuesday, I was at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport waiting for my flight to board. I…read moreneeded a drink. I normally find a fountain to fill up my water bottle, or buy an iced tea or diet pop drink. Things changed when I saw Green Carrot. It had smoothies, fresh juices, salads, sandwiches, and more. A cold-pressed juice sounded fun. I had never had one. I tend to make smoothies at home with a celery base. There were two cold-pressed juices here that had celery in it. I opted for the E3 green, which did not have ginger in it. I find that ginger wants to take over whatever dish or drink it's in. Just go away! The E3 green had E3 live (blue-green algae), cucumber, celery, spinach, carrot, and lemon. I liked everything in it. There was a woman in front of me getting a sandwich toasted up. Once she got her food, it was my turn to pay for my juice. The woman behind the counter was friendly and great. She rang up my juice. It wasn't cheap. It was four cents shy of $9. Yikes! That was the price to drink fresh cold-pressed juice. That's okay. It was my first time. I paid with a credit card. Done! While waiting to board my plane, I had some. It was yummy. I could taste the celery, cucumber, carrot, and lemon the most. It's likely because I put all those items in my green smoothie. I barely tasted spinach or the E3 live. Perhaps that's all good. It was a small bottle. I feel like I was savouring each sip to stretch out my $9 juice... haha! The E3 green hit the spot. I should be able to save up for another one when I'm back in Winnipeg. Tip: Sign up for CoCo rewards and get a free drink down the road as you make more purchases…read more After having a decent ramen lunch at Kinton Ramen, I left the eatery and was in front of this CoCo Fresh Tea and Juice next door. Should I get bubble tea from here or should I wait till I get to Collections Outlet Winnipeg and hit my beloved Chatime? Decisions, decisions! I had never been here, so I said yes. I was already parked steps away, so I might as well grab something to drink on a hot summer day. I walked in. It was busy. There were a couple of folks waiting for their tea. I was in line to place my order with a couple of other folks in front of me. My go-to drink at CoCo is a large strawberry black tea (no sugar and less ice) with coconut jelly. It has been the case for a few years. I love it. Chunks of real strawberry. Chewy coconut jelly. Strong black tea. Some ice. Refreshing! I was taking photos. A woman waiting in line was watching. Sadly, I caught her staring into my camera in one of my photos. Ugh! She ended up thinking to herself that taking photos while she was waiting for her drink was a good idea and went crazy. That's okay joining in on the photo-taking fun. It just seemed a bit weird. Maybe I'm just a trendsetter... NOT! Luckily, she got her drink. She took a photo of it and left. I placed my order with the nice woman behind the counter. I also signed up for CoCo rewards. The Ontario and Manitoba CoCo rewards programs are separate. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I then waited for my drink to be made. This CoCo is spacious. It has plenty of seats and tables to sit down and enjoy your bubble tea. My tea was ready. I thanked the man who made it, wished both staffers a great day, and headed to my vehicle. My bubble tea was consistent with how it's made at various CoCo places within the greater Toronto area. It hit the spot. I got my strawberry black tea fix, complete with the best coconut jelly. I drank my tea on my way to parking at the outlet. I walked around the outlet sipping it. Stores were so nice to let me sip away. It's a decent CoCo. I'd return to get more when I'm back in this area. (253)
