I love Poke…read moreand unfortunately, Winnipeg is seriously lacking in Poke options (I believe Chosabi is the only other place that offers Poke). Hawaii Kai is located inside Cityplace mall. It is a take-out spot, catering to the city's downtown office workers. Their menu includes a variety of 'healthy' Hawaiian and Asian cuisine, including salads, smoothies and bubble-tea. I ordered the salmon poke bowl. It came out to about $15. The portion was relatively small for what I expected. The salmon had a strange type of mayo spice on it. The crunch flakes used were reminiscent of cheap Frito corn chips. Overall I was disappointed. I was looking forward to Hawaii Kai as an alternative to Freshii (also located in the mall), but with it being much more expensive for sub-par quality, I think I will be pass on this in the future and head back to Freshii for their rice bowls (I know this is not an apples to apples comparison). This scores 3 out of 5 mainly because of its location and it being the second spot in Winnipeg to offer Poke.

We have been to some places where it's either too sweet, too watery or what other non-sense where the drink is messed up. They finished these and asked if we could come back the next day. Enough said. This place rocks!

The place is really cute and the owners were kind. The first time I went there, I tried their taro freeze with taro jelly, which comes in a large size. It's topped with whipped cream. The taro flavour is on the milder side and tasted more milky. The owners were open to suggestions and improving their drinks so I suggested to make the taro flavour a bit more stronger and they were susceptible to the feedback. I was able to try their mango pudding which was really good! It tasted just like the ones you would find at the Chinese restaurant at dim sum. The second time I visited, I got their tofu pudding with ginger syrup which is served warm. The tofu pudding was silky smooth. Would have loved for it to come with more syrup but overall it still tasted great. The owner suggested I try it with coconut milk so he gave me some to add to it and I liked it. It was my first time trying tofu pudding this way. I also got to try the tropical fruit tea which was quite good. I tried it without any sugar adjustments and it is on the sweeter side so I would suggest getting it at probably 70% sugar, but if you prefer it to be sweet than at 100% it's perfect for you. The caramel flan was also really good as well. Overall, I would highly recommend coming to try them out!

They are not super sweet, keep that in mind, but I think you can ask them to add more sweetness to it. I personally like the real tea taste to my drink. I tried the "Kiwi" flavor tea and added boba/pearls to my drink. I liked it a lot! I went around 5pm and there wasn't anyone there, I had the staff's undivided attention! He was very nice and pleasant. The meals look so good too but I wasn't very hungry at the time. UPDATE: I tried their hummus and egg waffle sandwich and found it pretty good. I don't think the flavors of the egg and hummus go extremely well together but it's not bad. 4 stars for the taste. I also tried the cold blueberry tea and it was delicious. My friend loved his syrup bacon waffles and matcha green tea smoothie.

If you're not willing to go to Panda Tea or Chatime (both quite far from Osborne), this place is probably the best substitute out there for tea. I had the $10.99 lunch special, which consisted of a waffle sandwich and an iced fusion tea. I went with a waffle dog and lychee iced fusion tea. The waffle was quite savoury, but the concept of two waffles with a smokie sausage...didn't seem to fit right. The end product literally looked like a sausage sandwiched between two waffles. It still tasted good though, which I guess is what counts. The iced fusion tea was decent too. Definitely not the best place to dine in the Village, but a good place to sit back and chat/do some work while having a bubble tea and a sandwich.

The first day I came here I was warmly greeted by the owner, a beautiful, hard working mother whose son manned the cash register and prepared drinks and other foods. They were both very nice! I decided to try the Vietnamese Fish Cake sub because I was very hungry. The fish was moist and not too fishy! Very tasty! I also loved my tangy Orange Guava Bubble tea. They have an assortment of bubble tea flavors here! The second time I stopped by I had the Thai tea Bubble tea and it's my favorite! It's very sweet. I munched on some Kimchi seaweed flakes fries. The seaweed flakes are salty and the sauce on it gave the fries a nice little zesty kick. On my second visit the owner gave me a free Mochi Waffle and it's the best thing I've tasted in a long time. The middle is almost gooey and everything was very sweet! I also decided to buy a Chocolate Matcha Mochi muffin and it also was fun to eat but also very filling. The restaurant is vibrantly decorated and elegant. This place is a type of foodie Heaven!

It seems to be confusing with the Asian fusion dishes (which look great on the menu and we'll be back to try). What we would give two stars is the service. We walked in and looked around at the shop and menu since it's brand new. Of the two staff behind the counter, no one even greeted or acknowledged us until we went up to the counter to order. They could have used this opportunity to ask what we were in the mood for or a recommendation. If this happens when we come back, there will be no third chances. One thing that needs to be dumped is the incredibly tacky 'buzzer' you're given to let you know your order is ready. Picture something you get at the chain restaurants when you're waiting for a seat. In such a tiny cafe, this is completely unnecessary. A good idea would be to bring orders to patrons since this would seem a better fit than a cheesy mall food court set up.

Especially nice if you just want to get a quick meal and go. They also have high chairs for toddlers. We were greeted quickly and sat to our table right away. My friend ended up getting their Banza Beef Noodle Soup and Langya Potato, while I got the Tofu and Rice Noodle and Iced Coffee. Absolutely love the Tofu and Rice Noodle (with spice), noodles were soft and slippery to eat, there was meat on it I think but it wasn't listed on the description and I couldn't tell if it was beef or pork. Warning, it was extremely spicy for me and I have moderate spice tolerance, but the soft tofu alleviated the spice and I was able to finish my dish. The hint of nuttiness from the walnut was a great addition to the dish and made it more interesting to eat since it had that crunch while all the other ingredients had softer and chewier texture. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you just need a quick meal!

This dollar store has taken over from where Office Depot used to be. Across from Dollarama was this Happy Lemon bubble tea store. I hadn't seen a Happy Lemon store in eons. A Yelp GTA experience drew my attention to the one in Vaughan, near Vaughan Mills. This franchise did not do well in Ontario and has since shuttered all its stores in the greater Toronto area. It was nice seeing that Happy Lemon was thriving in Winnipeg. It was a hot day. I was in need of some hydration, so I walked over to get some bubble tea. I got to see the mascot again. She was cool. Staff were friendly. I asked the man what drink sizes were available. Large is the smallest size. XL is next, which is a litre. There's also a two-litre size, but it depends on the type of drink that you are getting. I ordered an XL watermelon green tea with rainbow jelly and less ice. Sadly, I couldn't adjust the sugar. The man was too preoccupied with his conversation with his peer that he first charged me for a large. I paid with a credit card by tapping. I then looked at the receipt and realized that he made a mistake. I had to tap again to now upgrade to an extra large. It didn't take long for my drink to be made. It looked so pretty when it was handed to me. I thanked both folks and headed to my vehicle with a fairly hefty drink. The watermelon green tea was extremely refreshing and cold. I would have liked this drink less sweet. However, it wasn't gross. It was the natural sweetness of the watermelon coupled with the chewy rainbow jelly that made me forget about the sweetness after a minute. The toppings list was extensive. It had your regular salted cheese, various popping boba, and lychee jelly. You could also get cream puffs, various popping balls (kiwi, pineapple, and passionfruit). crystal jelly ball, coffee jelly, purple rice, and more. I felt like my eyeballs were getting bigger as I continued to read the list. One word: Wow! This store makes bubble waffles. The flavours are vast, from Oreo, to blueberry. There was plenty of parking at this plaza when I was here. I loved my drink. I'd return for more when I'm in the area again. (267)

I could taste that real brewed in a tea bag leaves in the Jasmine green tea lemonade drink. The honey added made it sweet and perfect! It still tasted pretty good but the chocolate taste wasn't as authentic or sweet like the chocolate I am used to. The staff people were super friendly and knowledgeable. I needed their help with something and helpful they were! Thx guys! I can't wait to add more stamps on my Happy Lemon Card, 10 stamps equals a free drink! Oh and on Thursday they automatically give you a large for the price of a medium drink.
