Still loving me some Boost! It's more than just core! The workouts really challenge you with resistance training to build muscle & not just tone. Best Pilates studio in town!

Boost Pilates in The Heights is amazing! The classes are challenging yet accessible, the instructors are knowledgeable, and the studio is clean and welcoming. Every session focuses on form, with modifications for all levels. Great energy and great workouts.

I'm writing this review in hopes that the owner Karen Hunt sees this. I was eager to start my Pilates journey with Boost. The heights location was just a few minutes from home and it the studio came highly recommended from my esthetician. She said I just had to try Abby's class because she brings the energy. So I signed up for a membership and on 12/20 at 2:30pm I was ready for a killer workout. However, the workday slipped away and next thing it's time for class and I'm deep in emails. I called the studio and there was no answer, but I immediately received an automated text message. I was asked for my name, location and how I booked. I answered all of the questions. A few minutes later, I received a phone call from a representative at boost. His name is Jason. He called to say that he was driving and can't open his computer to assist me. I was completely taken aback with his tone. He was rude and flustered. Things escalated when he raised his voice at me and said he wasn't going to pull over on the side of the road to open his computer and I can cancel my membership. I was speechless. I got off the phone shaken. Maybe it was because this man was harsh and unprofessional and most importantly unprovoked. I thought if this is how the customer service employees operate, I sure the studio community won't be a safe and inclusive facility. Jason dominated the conversation and I didn't say much because I was in shock. At no point did I say I wanted to cancel my membership. This is important to note because 15 minutes later, I receive another text message that says "so sorry for everything, let me know if you want a refund. Was he apologizing for yelling? His poor customer service? Treatment of a new patron? I guess that what we can assume "everything" falls under. Nonetheless, I didn't respond because his behavior is unpredictable. This person is yelling one minute and apologizing the next. My phone rings from the number and I don't pick up because at this point, I do not know what personality of Jason is on the other end. I decide to drive to the studio regardless, not to take class because I've already decided this isn't a safe community for me, but to speak to management directly to share my experience. My first solution was not to give a bad review online. I was greeted by Abby who was gracious and said she was alone and to return in 25 minutes. I waited in my car. Terrified if this Jason person was inside. Finally I speak to Abby and she was so kind. The key take away was She knew exactly who I was speaking about without saying his name. It was confirmation that Jason has a pattern of hostility. She assured me that he lived in Denver and encouraged to take her class. As I mentioned, Jason made the decision for me to cancel my membership so I was asked to purchase another one. In closing, I appreciate Abby's kindness. Fitness is about mental wellness and to have a hostile employee at a place that should be our safe haven is not healthy. I took the class but couldn't lock in because I was replaying how awful that man was to me. Thank you to management for reading my experience.

Love this Pilates studio! Get ready to have your butt handed to you with a smile. The instructors are amazing and are constantly cuing the next movement. Sometimes I'm a little lost because I'm pretty new at Pilates but there's also someone in the studio to reference. The workouts are always tough and you can make adjustments based on your experience or difficulty preference. No matter how "easy" I make it on myself, I always question whether I have any abs The studio is spacious and clean with great natural light. The reformers all look new and in great shape. The only odd thing when you're going for the first time is that the outside doors lead directly into the studio; there's no waiting area so you have to wait outside. When I went the first time, I didn't know that was the setup so when I opened the doors, I was interrupting a class that was in session. It was super embarrassing and awkward. A sign on the door would be super helpful to avoid that experience. Otherwise would definitely go back!

Muscle tone has never built so fast and lean as it has with Boost Pilates!

It was definitely hard and challenging but that's what makes it so great. Loved the reformer class with Kemi. She's great at adjustments and encouraging the class individually and as a whole. Check in was super easy. There's an iPad on the wall and you just check in independently and pick out the reformer you want. Theres a nice big mirror the spans an entire wall. Lots of core strength and a couple of cubbies to place your things. Grip socks are not required but I wore them because safety first. Lots of pulses. If I were new, it would probably be more like 2-3 stars. There's been a turnover of instructors, and they are rallying. While the new teachers are nice and putting in the effort, they lack foundational Pilates knowledge. Classes are similar to a spin class because instructors talk and encourage the WHOLE time. It ends up being a bit chaotic because people can't distinguish between the cheerleading, the necessary cues, or spring changes. Most importantly, the detailed form cues and corrections are missing. Classes feel rushed and lack clear direction on technique, which is the opposite of what Pilates should be. Classes can still be hard and appropriately paced. The cues and form are what makes Pilates hard, not rushing through moves. (Its also physically impossible to do a weighted low squat and a shoulder press within 1 second- let alone safely on a reformer. Why are we doing this?) It seems they all went to the same training class and haven't trained with different instructors so it's a problem across the 6-8 teachers I've tried in the last 3 months. If it weren't for Stacey and Caroline, I'd have moved to a closer studio by now. I hope the instructors undergo more training and are introduced to more than one type of teaching so they develop their own style. People are nice, and they are trying, but they aren't there yet.

We wanted to continue this once we returned to Houston, but we didn't want to find a studio with 30+ students and the Pilates classes at our current gym didn't give us any feedback on whether we were doing the positions/moves correctly. We turned to yelp for help :) We were looking for the following in a studio to supplement our gym membership: 1) small classes 2) personal attention 3) encouraging and attentive teachers This studio has all 3 of these things, but it's not limited to Pilates! They have yoga and cycling classes that meet the above three requirements too! We've only been members since October, but we look forward to our weekly classes. What's really nice is the class feels tailored to us. My husband and I have different bodies (height, strength, flexibility, etc), and the teachers really adapt to us! They'll change certain routines to ensure each student is getting the most of the session. It's a great personalized experience, and your body will thank you. I've already noticed better posture and just awareness of how I hold myself when doing everyday things at home or at work. What a neat find - thank you, yelpers!

Another thing I want to point out is it it's all abs here. Like the workout pretty much feels like you're holding a plank for one hour like they only work out the abs. Every other Pilates class I've seen or even the mat Pilates ones (I guess those aren't the real ones) I don't know they work out different muscles. But it's very core centered here so if you like that, go for it. But don't let these bishes try you that's all I'm saying hahaha. From a chat with the barista, I learned that Duo started because the husband had a love for coffee and the wife had a passion for pilates, so they thought "why not combine the two?" The River Oaks location is the founding store and they have since expanded to a second location as well. The people who work here truly seem happy and are eager to share the stories of their founders, which makes the place even more special. During my visit, I tried the birthday cake latte, which is a seasonal drink, and the flavors were also beyond what I've tried elsewhere. I'm typically not a fan of birthday cake flavored items, but I was feeling adventurous so I told the barista to surprise me with a drink from their menu and that's the flavor they ended up picking for me. When I received the birthday cake latte, I wasn't all that excited but all prejudice fell away after the first sip! I didn't adjust any sugar or ice levels like I typically do for my drinks, yet the drink was just right! Overall, I am just amazed by the people, the vision, and the gem of a place that I sort of happened into on a random weekend. I will definitely be returning again frequently for pilates, lattes, and/or fun conversations. Pro tip: initially it looks like visitors have to use street parking, but I confirmed with the staff that the parking lot across from the coffeehouse is free to use as well. Pro tip #2: there is option to order ahead with the QR code in image attached. I have not tried, but that may help skip the lines and make it easier for drink pickup. Pro tip#3: going for pilates here makes it so much easier to grab a quick bite or drink before/after workout!
