I am so disappointed with the way we were treated tonight. Our waiter was great. Food was fine. But after only 1.5 hours of being at our table, we were not asked if we wanted dessert or even a second round of drinks. We were told another group was waiting and if we wanted to we could sit in the bar area. Having been in the service industry, I just couldn't believe it. Turns out, this has happened to friends of mine there too. What kind of restaurant tells it's paying customers they need to leave after 1.5 hours?! We will not be going back:( read more

We are outside on a quiet day post- Labor Day. It was pleasant but not anything special, except maybe the prices - high for this area and this kind of food. It was good but when I asked for additional Thousand Island, it came in a travel packet. For the price of 15.25, I was expecting some house-made dressing. My husband had the whitefish sandwich and was very pleased. My main reason for giving this a 3 instead of a 4 is the value. If I could leave 1 star I would in a heartbeat. It feels wrong to even leave a star after my families' experience during our vacation at this shit establishment. The managers and owners are incredibly hot headed and run a crap business. Our first experience was during lunch hours where we approached the manager to ask about lunch availability and he simply said "listen we don't have the space or time for you. You can come back when we're less busy". It was extremely condescending and we were treated as if we were doing them a disservice by simply asking to get seated. This should have been our warning sign to definitely NOT come back, but as classic midwesterners we decided to give it another whirl. We came back for dinner and were treated like less than human throughout our visit. Starting by being berated for simply having our toddlers eating a slice of pizza to hold them over during our hour and a half wait in the common area. The manager Simon was beyond aggressive with his approach and honestly acted as though we had snuck in illicit drugs to his shit establishment. Later on, after our less than marginal meal served on plastic ware (might I add) when we approached Simon regarding how we really didn't appreciate his approach, tone, or disrespectful attitude towards us he immediately raised his voice and essentially was telling us that he doesn't care, I don't have time for you, and we can talk to his boss and it doesn't matter. It was purely outrageous. If a customer has a legitimate concern or issue, it should be addressed with respect and an understanding attitude. Me nor my family has never been treated this way by any establishment let alone A MANAGER (whose boss condones their behavior). The only saving Grace was the sweet servers we had. Will never be returning to this poor excuse of a restaurant serving market day food, frying it up, and serving it on plastic ware for the price of fine dining. read more

I can't think of a single good thing to say about this place. It was only half full but they made a thing about giving me a table, tried to push me to take a seat at the bar. I didn't want to drink. I ordered the Angus burger at $15.95, medium. It was supposed to be a freshly made hamburger cooked to order. It was a previously frozen patty that was overcooked, maybe 6 ounces tops. And, those many are correct; however, the guys at the Boonedocks have been able to answer the need for Mexican food, or at least with their one offering of the Wood Cutter's Burrito! This is definitely a cool joint to be, especially during the warmer summer months. Their restaurant/bar a full corner of a block and their beer garden is just as big. This nice and lively restaurant was our lunch destination last Sunday during our visit to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. From the outside, this restaurant looks cool. It has small small individual structures having a gift shop, an ice cream shop, kitchen and a bar at the center of it all. We had to wait for about 30 minutes before we got our table because the place was extremely crowded. There were separate tables when people can wait and have ice cream and drinks and watch other people have their food. While we were waiting for our table, we tried their local beer and it was quite refreshing and came as a relief as it was very hot that day. There was a live band playing songs and I guess there were more bands that were going to play in different shifts. We tried the following food items : Coconut Shrimp : nice and crispy, fried in coconut oil I believe. it came with 2 dipping sauces. Porcupine wings : This was absolutely delicious. The sauce wasn't too tangy like the regular hot sauce. Chicken was juicy and tender on the inside. Something fishy sandwich : This one had 2 pieces of fried fish fillets with the regular lettuce and tomato stuff. The bun was pretty big in size unlike the buns you get at the fast food joints. The fish was extremely delicate and tasted amazing. Grilled Pesto Chicken : The chicken was extremely juicy. Veggie burgers: I did not eat this one but my vegetarian friends praised it a lot. One of them said that this was the best veggie burger he has had so far. Overall, it was am amazing experience for hungry birds like us. We left with happy faces and happy tummies. We stopped here while sight seeing the area. The inside was a 30 min wait and the outside seating was a 45 min wait on a Friday at 115pm. We chose to sit outside and waited approximately 1hr 15 min. The onion rings were hot and crispy. I shared the Jerk Chicken sandwich. The chicken was a finely chopped blend with no real flavor or heat. Our group also ordered the shrimp which everyone liked a lot. The staff appeared short and the food took awhile. The waitress was extremely busy and kept a great attitude. The bar was staffed with one employee that appeared to be making drinks for the bar and tables which left long lines and slow drink service to the tables. Overall I would recommend grabbing a beer at the bar and enjoying the patio waiting area, but wouldn't wait over an hour for the menu. read more

The whitefish sandwich was good and the fries were done perfectly. We just could not get past how many flies were in the restaurant. We asked to be moved from our first table because there were so many flies in the booth. They were on our drinks and our soups. When we were moved to another booth we still had to deal with about 50% of the flies we had originally. What was sad was that another couple came in and they sat them in the fly booth after we moved out. There were only 5 settings being used so there were plenty of other options. So sad because for years this has been one of our favorites and it is going down hill fast. read more

I don't think boonedocks is a must try when you're in Glen Arbor. You're better off driving to Leland, Maple City, Cedar, etc. the live music was good but everywhere has live music, if this is what is bringing you to this restaurant, you can definitely find better. We arrived before 6pm on a Sunday and were told over 30 min wait for a two person table. We just sat at the bar. The service was really quick at the bar and their drinks are really good. My boyfriend and I both ordered the strip steaks and weren't impressed. I could make a better steak at home. We got the mac and cheese bites off the kids menu too and those were really good. Some positives but mostly negatives, there's better places that are more worth the money. read more

They had 3 tables of 4 for our party of 11 and it was "not encouraged" to get a spot under the hut outside where the TVs are because they said each table has a different server. Not welcoming at all. Fish sandwich had almost no fish and wasn't very good. Randomly the rueben was decent, probably because there was no cooking involved. Everything took a long time even though it wasn't busy. Never received the second drink I ordered. Not sure if they are understaffed due to COVID or what, but the entire staff was moody 17 year olds that hate their job. Pretty disappointing. Service was pretty slow even though they were way over staffed. Ordered the fresh perch and it came out on a styrofoam plate. I usually have no issue with that but if you're spending almost 25 bucks on perch, I was thinking the quality was going to be better. Surprised they didn't have their own house tartar sauce to go with their fish. Just had a warm bottle of Kraft tartar in their condiment tray. Maybe it's more of a drinking spot. The chicken tenders had a extremely strange taste, and my poor starving mother couldn't even eat her salad because it was so terrible. Come on how do you mess up a salad?!?! The barbecue sauce was extremely bad and the salad dressing came in plastic bags and everything was store bought. I definitely would not recommend going there, the service was pretty fast because no one wants to go there. My mother thought it would be a good, cute restaurant, but boy was she wrong. This place has terrible reviews. My experience went from meh, to hey this is a good burger. Service, very good, very nice helpful waitress. Food: Potato soup was beef and potato, way to salty for me. I ordered an up north burger, it was actually good. For some reason below reviews do not match the quality and caliber of food that is at this restaurant. We came in to watch the second half of a World Cup game and while the game was on, and despite 6 Booth's of people in our section and the entire bar are clearly watching the game, the staff refuses to turn up the sound on the tv. Very, very poor customer service. This is a locally owned place and one would think they would adjust to serve 90% of the guests wanting to watch a World Cup game while on vacation. We decided to stay and watch in silence because it was an important game to the husband. But I would NOT recommend this spot if you're in town. Very poor customer service. read more

This place is really horrible. They charge $17 for a Reuben and $4 to add fries. I wouldn't complain too much about the food if I was paying $13 but in the context of pricing and experience the food is sub-par. I tried the Reuben, pulled pork and burger. They were all pretty bad. The Reuben was slapped together quickly so that the meat and condiments only took up half of the bread. By the time I'd eaten half of my sandwich I was out of water and had to wait another 10 minutes to get some. The fries were flavorless. We were drawn in by the music but honestly the acoustics are pretty bad. They use plastic silverware and pre-packages dressings. The place is always busy and the service is slow. It's just not a great experience. Can't believe I got pulled into a tourist trap -- twice! Won't this mistake again. read more

Yes.. yes.. we did read the bad reviews, but if you are here off season, there is no other place to get a beer and burger. We had gone to Art's Tavern so many times, we wanted to try something different.... big mistake... The place was pretty empty, and yet it still took a long time to get our menu...and our drinks.. and then even longer to get our order. What was so discouraging is that the waitress kept saying, "I'll be right back to..." take your order.. or bring you drinks... or whatever... and yet she never was "right back".. She checked on just about everyone, including refilling other table's water, while we all just say there waiting for our order to be taken. By the time she finally stopped by, it had been so long, most of us had to reference the menu again because we had forgotten what we wanted. The stars are only for the food... We were happy with the taste, but then when we got the bill, we noticed that we were charged extra for add ons like mushrooms and chesse. What is so sad, is that this crappy service was during the off season. They are in big trouble once the busy season starts. We won't be back.. read more
