I was thoroughly surprised about how good the Matcha taste here! The Matcha had a good flavor, strawberry was great and not too sweet, definitely complemented the milk. Overall, I would come back.

Berebere mocha

Great local coffee spot. The place has lots of seating and is a great place to visit and catch up with friends and enjoy some great coffee. The baristas are friendly. And have a great knowledge of their menu and offerings. The beans are all from Africa and not only is Boon Boona cultivating community within the Seattle area, they are doing the same with African coffee growers. On my most recent visit, I went with the Berbere latte and was worried if the spice would overpower the coffee but it was smooth with a hint of spice. It was warm and delicious and I cannot wait to drink again.

Attended a meeting at Renton Chamber of Commerce, walked the few blocks from there to this coffee shop. There isn't any exterior seating but plenty of interior (bar and table) seating. They had two options for pour over and some interesting syrup options. There wasn't any gluten free or vegan options for food when I arrived. Ordered a pour over, fenugreek latte (order it, it's amazing) with oat milk, blueberry muffin and beef curry pastry. I have been to several Boon Boona Coffee locations and they are consistently memorable from their knowledgeable and kind staff to tasty and flavorful food and drinks. Always recommend supporting this business.

I finally got to go to Boon Boona! I read much about in online and kept telling myself to take a road trip up from Oregon. After years, I finally took the drive up to Rento for the weekend. I ordered the berber mocha and I am glad I did. It was delicious, no overly strong taste. Expensive for cup but it was well worth it, in my opinion, it is a spacious place with plenty of seats. I purchased a Boon Boona Coffee hoodie too! Its a mid weight quality hoodie - perfect for a cool morning coffee run,

I thought this place was decent overall. It felt a bit messy, and the coffee was just okay. I didn't get a chance to try any of the pastries during my visit. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but if I'm nearby and need a quick coffee, I'd consider stopping in.

I met a friend at Boon Boona Coffee the other afternoon, and what was supposed to be a quick catch up turned into a two hour business session because the space just invites you to linger. The ambience has this effortless blend of modern café energy and warm community vibes. You don't feel rushed, you feel welcomed, like you're meant to stay awhile. What stood out immediately wasn't just the drinks, but the way the staff carried the entire experience. I ordered an iced herbal tea to start, which was crisp and refreshing, brewed in a way that let every note come through cleanly. My friend went straight for americano; she said it wasn't bad! I had grabbed a bag of espresso beans, the Breke blend, per the baristas recommendation since I'm a newer home "barista". She walked me through all the beans they had and they all were roasted relatively recently. The barista took the time to talk through the beans, the roast, even told me how it was a flip flop (sour/bitter extraction) and then, as we were sitting there, even brought me a sample of what an under extracted shot tastes like. Who does that? It was this little masterclass tucked into a casual coffee stop, and I left not only caffeinated but a bit wiser. The espresso itself was everything you want in a specialty shop: bold, fragrant, and complex. The beans were clearly treated with respect, roasted and served at their peak. When I played around with timing at home later, I noticed how they held their character across that tricky balance point between the flip flop sour and bitter extraction. It's rare to find beans that can withstand that kind of flip flop without completely losing their integrity, but these did great. It made me feel like I wasn't just buying coffee, I was bringing home a little piece of craftsmanship. And that's really the heart of Boon Boona. The coffee is excellent, yes, but it's the way they connect you to it that makes the place memorable. You're not just served, you're educated, welcomed, and encouraged to experience coffee in a deeper way. That service alone set the bar far higher than I expected, and combined with the comfortable space and well chosen beans, it made for one of the best café visits I've had in a long time. If you're looking for a spot to work, talk, or just savor a great cup, Boon Boona is the kind of place where two hours slip by without you realizing it, and you leave not only satisfied, but already planning your return.

Great location in downtown Renton. Ended up meeting a co worker here before work to enjoy some coffee. The staff are super friendly and there was ample seating for me. The latte was very delicious. And the breakfast sandwich didn't last long as I wolfed it down so quick! Will definitely be back for future morning stops before work.

So, I've been daydreaming about visiting Boona Boona for a while now. Sure, I've had their coffee beans at home, but there's something about drinking coffee where it's brewed that just hits different. The vibe? Imagine if a coffee shop and an interior design magazine had a love child -- sleek, earthy tones, and a whole lot of "I could totally work here on a Monday." It was packed, but somehow still gave off a chill, "I'm here for the coffee, but also to soak in the decor" vibe. Bonus: There are a couple of curbside tables for when you want to sip and scroll with your dog (we all know that's a thing). Now, the menu... Oh boy. *This* is where it gets fun. I walked up to the counter and had the *brilliant* idea of trying to figure out what to order without a menu. (Spoiler alert: I'm an introvert who stares at the menu for way too long like it's a life-or-death decision.) There were no menus lying around, no signs hanging -- just the specials scribbled on the counter like it's some secret society you can't be part of unless you've been to Boona Boona before. I even tried to check their website... and guess what? Digital menu? Ghosted. I half-expected a treasure map to pop up instead. Despite the menu mystery, the staff were absolute gems. They weren't *just* patient, they were like coffee sages guiding me to my iced banana mocha latte -- and trust me, it was worth it. My friends loved their hot chocolate and strawberry matcha lattes, too. Everything was delicious. Honestly, I'll be back just to see what *other* caffeinated concoctions they come up with. But Boona Boona, for the love of caffeine, please, a sign. Or a website menu. Or maybe a coffee fortune teller in the corner. Just help a fellow introvert out.

My friend and I visited this charming spot on a Sunday afternoon. There was a bit of a line, but it moved fairly quickly. They have a great drink menu with some fun specials, like a banana matcha beverage. They also offer a selection of pastries and sandwiches, which are clearly popular, as the options were very limited by the time we got there. I tried the strawberry matcha, and I was pleasantly surprised--I really enjoyed it! My friend ordered the rose cardamom latte, but unfortunately, it wasn't quite to our taste. It had a slightly bitter note that didn't sit well with us. One of the highlights of our visit was getting to see their coffee ceremony. They even offered us a free sample of the featured coffee, which was a nice touch. Finding parking was a bit of a challenge since the area was packed, so be prepared to walk a few blocks if you aren't lucky with finding a spot nearby. Once inside, the service was great, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I managed to grab the last seat near an outlet, which was a bonus, but we didn't stay too long since the Wi-Fi was a bit slow. Overall, it was a lovely experience with lots of space! Hoping to be back to try some of their other beverages.

Ask the Community - Boon Boona Coffee

Are you able to grind coffee for customers?

Yes we are happy to grind and coffee purchased at our cafes, we look forward to hanging you in!

The Yelp hours say open until 4pm on Sunday, but their website says 2pm. I called but the phone number doesn't work. What time do they close on Sunday?

Thank you for catching that! We will update to reflect the correct hours 8am - 4pm / 7 days a week

Are you allowing dine in?

UPDATE - As of Dec 15, 2021 we offer limited seating!

Do you serve any food or pastry items?

Hi Nancy! Thank you for reaching out! Yes we do. We offer - paninis, breakfast sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan wraps, small salads, and several assortment of pastries. Look forward to having you in!

If street parking was the only type available, how long can you park at a time (given that this is downtown Renton) & is parking free? If not, is there a free parking area nearby for longer than 2 hours? Looking for a place I can work remotely?

Hi Tracy! Parking around downtown Renton is 2 hours in most parts and it’s free :). Hope to see you soon!

Do they really allow dogs?

We went one of the first weekends they were open. We checked Yelp to make sure dogs allowed was listed and took our two leashed dogs in with us. The owner waited on us and even made a foam portrait of one of our pups on my latte.

We were wondering around Des Moines as we never have really spent any time in the downtown before until recently. We were wanting to get some coffee and a bite to eat and we came across Second Love. The coffee drinks are really good and unique! I got a grapefruit iced coffee. It definitely tasted unusual and was certainly robust. I am glad I tried it because it's a kind of thing you don't see around very much. They have sandwiches too and since we were hungry we ordered some. They proved to be very good as they were made to order and tasted nice and fresh! Steve purchased some coffee beans to take home so we could enjoy more of their coffee at home. They have shared parking with other neighboring businesses, but I would be careful backing out once you're done around the area, as other cars parked in that parking lot can make for bad blind spots. When you get inside, you're greeted by some brown wooden floors and ceilings, and the whole interior reminds you of a cozy but spacious treehouse with the kitchen and bar seating near the front, and three or so two-tops lined up on the walls. Go deeper inside and you'll get to their outdoor patio seating that doesn't have a picturesque view but works if you're wanting some fresh air outside. Staff was very patient with me while I was perusing the menu and baked goods at the front counter. You can get your drinks for here or to-go, and there are hot and iced options for most drinks. As mentioned, I got their grapefruit Szechuan tonic, and it's definitely a unique flavor. It's bitter like coffee and tonic, and since it was advertised as a coffee drink on social media, I was surprised the drink wasn't as thick and murky as coffee would be. There's a mild grapefruit taste that is dulled by the coffee part of this drink, and that sadly also went for the Szechaun peppers that spike this drink. It's probably just me, but while drinking this my mouth was trying to tell the difference between the tingling spice sensation that Szechaun peppers usually give off, and the mouthfeel you get when bubbly, carbonated drinks like tonic come into contact with your tongue. I wasn't sure if I was tasting spice or the popping sensation from soda. Whichever it was, it was mild and could have been stronger.

BEAN BOX: WHERE LIMA BEAN DREAMS BECOME REALITY (DESPITE BEING A COFFEE SHOP)…read more Listen, while others might come here expecting just coffee beans, let me tell you about their REVOLUTIONARY approach to lima bean curation. Their selection of these flat, buttery legumes is so extensive it makes other coffee shops look like they're not even trying in the lima bean department (which, to be fair, they're not, because they're coffee shops). Their premium Giant White Lima collection (displayed with the reverence usually reserved for rare coffee beans) is housed in custom-made glass jars that make other beans question their life choices. Each lima bean is positioned to catch the morning light like tiny, kidney-shaped supermodels. You haven't lived until you've seen their Christmas Lima Bean display (completely overshadowing their holiday coffee blends). The variegated patterns on these heirloom limas tell a story that makes their single-origin Ethiopian beans seem downright chatty at parties. The rare Fordhook Lima section (inexplicably placed next to their pour-over station) features beans so perfectly formed that customers often mistake them for small sculptures. I once saw someone try to order a lima bean latte. The barista's confusion was palpable, but their lima bean organization remained impeccable. Their rotating seasonal lima bean exhibit (which takes up prime real estate that could be used for, oh, I don't know, COFFEE) includes varieties like the Baby Lima, Henderson Bush, and the elusive King of the Garden Lima. Each one is labeled with tasting notes, as if someone's going to conduct a lima bean cupping session. Five stars for their commitment to showcasing these underappreciated legumes in a space clearly designed for coffee retail. I've started a weekly lima bean appreciation club where we gather to admire their collection while confused coffee customers try to order lattes around us. P.S. I heard someone suggest they should focus more on coffee beans, and the lima bean display case audibly gasped. P.P.S. Their limited edition Jackson Wonder Lima beans are stored in a climate-controlled case that probably cost more than most cars. The security system seems excessive, but who am I to question lima bean protection protocols? Note: This review was written while contemplating the bold choice of dedicating so much space to lima beans in a coffee shop on 1st Avenue South. The courage. The vision. The complete disregard for traditional coffee shop inventory expectations. Special Addendum: To the customer who asked why there were lima beans in the coffee grinder - you clearly don't understand the ARTISTRY of cross-legume innovation. Final Thought: Sure, they might technically be a "coffee shop," but their lima bean game is stronger than a triple shot espresso. It's like they misread "coffee house" as "legume palace" and just ran with it. Remember: Coffee beans may come and go, but lima beans are forever. Or at least until someone finally explains to them what kind of beans coffee shops typically sell. P.P.P.S. Their new "Lima Bean of the Month" subscription service is revolutionary, even if it's causing significant confusion among their coffee subscribers.
