Casita Mexicana - Fajitas

Happened into Casita Mexicana to try something different in the downtown Killarney area. It seemed…read morelike this spot was new to the area and was located in a back parkway along with a few other shops. Our server, Tim, was a joy! He was knowledgeable about the menu, the area, and even brought a plain nacho starter complimentary so we could use the extras for our quesadillas. The portions were not overly large but we all left feeling full. The margaritas seemed to be light on liquor but had good taste. Pricing was very fair but tables are limited so make sure you give yourself enough time.

My wife and I went to Ireland for two weeks to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary. We were…read moreon a tour with 40 other tourists and we spent two days in Killarney. The tour provided breakfast every day and dinner about half the time. We knew we'd have a night to ourselves so I went on Yelp to see what dining options were available. There were a lot of pubs which didn't really interest me but I saw that there was Mexican restaurant named Casita Mexicana that was well regarded among many American tourists. The idea of getting Mexican food in Ireland sounded pretty off-the-wall but when we got there we were ready for something different. This place is off the main road through town and if it wasn't for a small sign placed in the sidewalk you wouldn't know it was there. We had to walk down an alley to get to it but here was a parking lot right out front. We got there at 5:00 pm which was right when they opened. We are lucky we did because all but two tables had already been reserved. The decor was fairly typical but they were playing American southern blues music which was out of place but perhaps the people of Ireland didn't know that. There were no chips and salsa unfortunately and I wanted to get a margarita but it wasn't available. Regardless I ordered ground beef tacos and my wife ordered enchiladas. We had to wait for a bit for our food even though we were the only customers in the place for a while until an American couple came in and took the table next to us. When I got my tacos they had come with corn taco shells like you'd buy in a supermarket. The meat came in a terra cotta pot and had beans mixed in. The waitress asked if I wanted mild, medium, hot or Mexican hot so I chose medium and it was plenty spicy. Also, I guess because it's Ireland, there was an option for French fries instead of pinto beans which I can't stand. Potatoes with every meal! The food was quite good. I only got three taco shells and had plenty of ground beef left over so ended up eating it with a spoon. My wife liked her enchiladas so we were both very happy. It seems Mexican food is quite popular in Ireland. We saw several burrito shops in Dublin with lines out the door. Even the smallest towns had Mexican restaurants and a small cafe we went to in Donegal had chimichangas on the menu. While it wasn't quite authentic I would recommend this place if you're in Killarney and want to try something different.

I found this place pretty average at best. The food was ok, I had the falafel burger but I've had…read moremuch much better falafel elsewhere. The ones here had hardly any taste at all, was way to crumbly and overcooked, and the hummus that came with it was kind of hard as opposed to smooth. I felt that restaurant lacked authenticity when it comes to actual Mexican food, and I found the food too oily for my liking, even the vegetable side dishes. The sweet potato fries were not too great and I expected better; too limp, soggy-like and greasy compared to what I've had at other restaurants. It very much felt like pricy fast food as opposed to real proper restaurant food. The service was very slow, they forgot one of our orders, did not have any herbal teas except green tea (not even earl grey or peppermint which I find almost all restaurants have) and they did not let us pay separately which made be reduce the stars from a 3 to a 2. Also, I think that the staff could be a bit more attentive to customers. The dessert menu was also quite small. The good points were that the atmosphere was pretty lively, the place seemed clean and the prices were not too bad but didn't really justify the poor quality of food. However, the menu had a variety of options and did cater a small but for vegetarians with dishes like falafel, potato based tapas and salads.

Craved something healthy so I ordered delivery through Deliveroo & was delivered on time & in-tact…read more Ordered the beet salad with apples, nuts & goat cheese. The salad was large enough to feed two people, & there was only one of me! Loved the flavor & felt good eating it! Goat cheese & produce were incredibly fresh. Came with bread/butter on the side - as an American it looked like banana bread - however it was NOT (sad face); it was a plain loaf. Bread was okay; if it's made in-house, then I'll give em more credit! -1 star because I wish there was more crunch (nuts + apples).

The food here was fantastic and very reasonably priced at the same time! For anyone who likes…read morehealthy food, salads or who has certain diet restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, paleo etc), then I'd really recommend this place! For salads and sandwiches you can choose from the menu or make your own by selecting ingredients from the deli. They have a bigger choice than regular deli to include things like roast and smoked salmon, chickpeas, beetroot, cherry tomatoes in addition to the usual stuff. You can also choose between a lettuce or pasta base if ordering salad. They also have a nice breakfast and brunch menu, as well as hot mains like noodles, quesadilla, stews and soup. Prices are overall pretty cheap, you can eat here for less than €10. The staff were pretty nice, not much to say there, and the cafe itself was fairly clean with nice seating. However it does get full at lunch time on weekdays since it's near the hospital, but they do take aways as well.
