There is always such a long wait to get into bonefish, but we were finally smart enough to make a reservation. We went early since we had our antsy son with us and the place was still packed. The ambience was a little bit darker with a feel of a nicer restaurant. Many people were in shorts and T-shirts baseball had, etc. so no one was really dressed all that fancy. Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to guide us, we did not have any issues with our food or our service but the table next to us had a couple problems. They were all quickly rectified however, when you start adding them onto each other, you could tell they were over by the time they left,. We got the mussels as an appetizer and were disappointed to find few closed ones that we promptly sat aside. We both ordered off of the special menu and we're pleased with our meals. Food overall is pretty good, but after two consecutive instances of bad service, I'm done. Our previous visit we had to get our own drinks from the bar and needed to ask the manager for anything else. Our current visit I thought I'd out smart them by ordering our drinks and food at the same time. Of course our food came first (which had clearly been sitting) by another server before our drinks arrived. Location is fabulous with a great view of Nagawicka. Too bad the service can't measure up. Edit: while waiting a ridiculous amount of time for our check, watched as the manager dumped water on a chair as he was bussing a table, leave the water, and seat a family without drying off the chair. The food, although pricey, was very good. Can't complain about it at all. Had the seasonal special. Swordfish and pumpkin ravioli. It was great. Started the evening with the smoked old fashion. Very smokey. Not as awesome as I had hoped for, but good. Not $14 good. I'll just stick to my Wisconsin old fashions for now. Finished the night with the molten lava pumpkin cake. As far as chains go, Bonefish has always ranked as one of my faves for a couple reasons. The first of which is their bang bang shrimp. Crispy and flavorful with just the right amount of heat, I could literally make a meal of just their shrimp. The second reason is their cocktails. Sadly, as we all stay #saferathome, we can't partake in currently, but when their back in action, they do have a variety of inventive mixology. Most of it ranges on the side of the slightly sweet and tropical, but they do make an incredibly decent Manhattan. When I'm in the mood for something on the sweeter side, I go for their (sugar rimmed, no less) sidecar. Their full meals are also great. But, more often than not, we find ourselves here to enjoy a couple cocktails and some bang bang shrimp. Solid. The Mister wanted fish and I wanted to not eat fish, and Bonefish had lots of choices for both of us. If you haven't been, Bonefish likely describes itself as an "upscale, casual" chain and it does a very good job delivering good food in a pleasant atmosphere. We started with Bang Bang Shrimp ($9) which is a large amount of tempura style shrimps in a spicy sauce - like the kind of spicy Mayo that comes on sushi. Definitely tasty! Dinners also comes with nice, warm fresh bread which makes the Mister happy as he enjoys filling up on bread. Dinner wise, he had a very nice trout ($19) with a butter sauce and I had a perfectly cooked filet. For a fish place, they made a very good steak and the price was quite reasonable ($26). Waiter didn't understand the menu or how to work his ordering device. Brought me the completely wrong order and by the time it arrived the 3 other people in my party were done eating. Went for dinner with my wife a few days ago. My wife had a seafood entree and I was in the mood for a restaurant quality hamburger. My wife's dinner was okay. I ordered the 1/2 pound special. My burger and my plate and fry's weren't a half pound! I asked the manager why I didn't get what I paid for. He told me "Sometimes they run out of food and have to go out and get it locally " He checked with the kitchen and yes it wasn't a 1/2 pound patty. WHAT! You don't tell anyone you're not getting what you asked for? You falsely claim meals on your menu? No apologies given, no compensation for a 1/4 pound served instead of a 1/2 pound? No excuse for the management. It didn't even embarrass them to serve a lie and admit it. It seemed normal by the way it was handled. read more

Not what it used to be... Went here after work for dinner and a drink. Sat at the bar because we're comfortable there. Bartender makes two margaritas that were delicious. Asks if we're eating there, brings us menus, then she and her counterpart ignore us for 20 minutes although we're three feet in front of them both. Flag down the second bartender, who takes our food order but was clearly inconvenienced. People arriving after we order are wrapping up. Food arrives, one dish is cold, sides are incorrect and broccoli is almost a purée is so overcooked. No one takes our pulse. Twenty minutes later, bartender asks how food is and I share the issues, but at that point it doesn't matter. She recognizes dinner is going sideways, gets the manager to share an apologetic speech she's clearly given many times before about how our poor experience was "just not right". She comped the cold fish dinner, but that was not the point. I'm not sure neither the manager nor the bartenders got it. I just wanted a nice dinner at a reliable restaurant. It was our first time at Bonefish and we came here for an early Father's Day Brunch. They have a tented outdoor space and it's just perfect on a summer day with the breeze flowing and the shade. I loved that they have a couch too outdoors where you can wait for your table or enjoy a nice drink. We were a group of 5 adults and an infant and they accommodated us very well. They servers were extremely polite and got us seated right away along with a high chair for our baby! We ordered a few drinks and they had lovely watermelons martini with cucumber - it was soooo summery and refreshing! Some of my family got the mosco mule, and mango mojito and they enjoyed their drinks too. We ordered the crab crust cod, pork chops and shrimp Rangoon salmon and really enjoyed them all. The chef was accommodating to give us our sauces on the side so that we could adjust to our liking. I really liked coming to Bonefish and the food was delicious. Their Saturday and Sunday brunch has become a staple, due to the endless bubbles for only $10, in addition to giving you the option of ordering from their lunch and dinner menus - for those that may not want the traditional brunch fare! I ordered one of the daily specials, the Saigon Scallops and Shrimp. It was served with a spicy/sweet sauce atop a bed of vermicelli noodles. SO GOOD! Everything was cooked to perfection, the scallops were sweet, and the sauce was not overbearing. My only suggestion would be that they remove the tail shell from the shrimp....having to switch from fork to fingers throughout the meal was a slight pain. Also, they overcharged me for my drink. I didn't notice until we got home, so there wasn't much I could do about it, but I will be checking my receipt a little better the next time. Stopped in for some brunch on a Saturday and sat at the bar. Our bartender Terri was absolutely fantastic! She was fun to talk to and gave my Mom and I great suggestions off the menu. We started with bottomless sangria/mimosas! Best deal ever for $10.00. Then we ordered the calamari which was so crunchy and delicious. The Asian sauce served with it was perfect. Made a reservation for a Friday night, process was super simple through their website. Arrived for our 730 reservation, and waited approx 5 min to be seated which was great! Our waitress, Melissa, was really sweet and genuine, you could tell she really wanted every table she had to have an enjoyable evening. Service throughout the night was fantastic. Drinks were awesome, menu was explained thoroughly. The food however, was just OK. The bang bang shrimp was good, and I think the price for what you get was appropriate. The calamari appetizer was also a good value, but it was very greasy. We did get complimentary ciabatta and pesto, which was actually my favorite part of the meal! We both ordered specials - seafood risotto and salmon with crab topping. The risotto was not risotto- it was a seafood soup over a scoop of sticky rice, and the flavor was not good. The three shrimp on top saved it. The salmon with crab was wood grilled which had good flavor, but it was SO dry. It needed the crab and spinach sauce to save it. They say their special is grilled seafood, so that left me feeling disappointed as well. Lastly, the interior was nice, but so many tables were crammed in next to each other, it felt a bit like a banquet hall. No division between sections, which led you to overhear every conversation in your general vicinity. While the service was great, I don't believe we will be paying a visit to Bonefish again. Went there last month with my husband. We were seated in the bar area, which was fine, but it was freezing to start with, felt like they had the AC on when it was cold outside. Our server took our food and drink order and then we barely saw her again, we had to flag her down to get her to stop aside from bringing a box and our check. My husband ordered filet and crab cake and when his food was brought out there was a visibly moldy lemon slice on his plate. So not only did someone in the kitchen put this on his plate mold side up but the person who brought it out could see it too. We flagged our server down and showed her, she seemed kind of dismissive, "that's not cool," took it and walked away. Nothing else was ever said or done about it. My husband and I have worked in customer service and don't want to knock a place without giving them a chance to fix the situation. My husband filled out a form with the restaurant and the manager reached out and apologized and offered us a meal for us to give them another chance. We agreed, and he asked us to provide dates we could come in, we did and then crickets... no response at all. read more

And all of that is driven from top down...GM/management down to the people and having the staff on board with the philosophy. In this latest visit, we sat down and Melissa was our server. Immediately she was friendly and inviting. She took our drink orders (wine and mixed drink) and a few minutes later she came back and apologized that they were out of both. Melissa said Katie, their manager would buy us the first round of our next choice because of that. Most places would just say sorry! My family of four went there this evening for dinner. They were understaffed and we continuously waited for everything from appetizers to dinner to check. We were understanding and did not complain once although staff kept sharing how much work they were doing. Our food was overall very good with the exception of the scallops and shrimp not being cooked consistently. Some were more thoroughly cooked than others, the side of rice was crunchy. The final straw was the smoked old fashioned. It was very strong and was more like bourbon straight up. I gave it to my husband as he loves bourbon. Without the sweetness it was too much for me. However, when he finished it, it was pure granulated sugar at the bottom so it was not mixed at all and they did not provide a stir stick. When we mentioned it to our server, she said she has been serving these for years I was the first to complain. We were very patient all night and understanding, but that comment was completely uncalled for. We didn't even ask for it to be removed from the bill. I told her straight out that I couldn't believe she said that to me as that is horrible customer service. She could have just apologized and say she was going to give our feedback to the bartender. We put up with their poor service all night long and spend appx $200.00 so that last comment will ensure that we will never be back. At those prices we expect better service. read more

The space wasn't the best set up for a large social gathering, but I guess not really their intent. I thought they had a good drink menu with lots of different options for beer, wine, and cocktails. The cocktails were presented well which made them seem pretty upscale. The appetizers I tried were all pretty good. The brussel sprouts we're definitely my favorite. I should have trusted my instincts, so I will take some responsibility for this. My steak was cooked to a perfect medium on the inside. It looked well charred and the server did ask how our food was. I said it was fine, but after a few bites I found I was wrong. It was bitter from being burnt. I hate sending food back, and I rarely do, so I finished it. To be fair, it's dark in the dining room. I didn't really think it was burnt. But later on I had to wonder how a burnt steak could end up on a plate, let alone a table? How did the server not question it when she picked it up? I'm assuming they have Better lighting in the kitchen. It's ironic considering that the servers wear chef's attire. Again, to be fair, I didn't complain about it. I ate it. Maybe that's what I deserve for getting steak at a seafood restaurant. Let me be clear, 3 stars is good. It's A OK., But I'm not a fan yet. The sides and the bread were delicious and really the only saving grace to my meal. Yes, we'll be back, we have a gift card to use up.
